2:58 “In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me: As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free, While God is marching on.” Man, lyrics don’t get much more powerful than that.
The Battle Hymn of the Republic sung by a Military Choir at the Inauguration with soul inspired militance! How did that go over with the crowd at the Arena? I can't believe that it was done but am inspired by it. ....let us die to make men free.....It was written as an anti-slavery song. Proud of those that sang it and the officer uncharge that put it on the program! Sung at the cathedral Sept 14 9/ll memorial. A reminder. Sung again on MLK day 2025! The Republic was not Confederate. Listen closely to its deep meaning as well as the surface emotion manipulation.

@@timalete The words "let us die to make men free" have often been re-written to "let us live to make men free". That really dilutes the power of the hymn and I am glad this performance sang the lyrics as intended.
@@carlbehr4685I agree with you. The entire hymn takes Bible passages and turns them into to verses. The original author composed “die to make man free” because it is more powerful and is in alignment with biblical doctrine. Jesus called followers to “die to our own flesh” and “carry our own cross daily”. It’s hard to live but even more of a sacrifice to die to our own desires . “Greater love has no one than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” John 15:13.
Navy veteran here... and yeah, wow.. still emotional. Amazing moment and probably my favorite moment of that entire day. love Trump, but whoever set this up, needs to be applauded also. especially since it was apparently very last-minute planning.
One of the best American patriotic songs of all time and a really stunning performance!! Greetings from Germany, I really hope you will make your country great again!👍💪 🇺🇲
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored He hath loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword His truth is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on. I have seen him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps They have builded him an altar in the evening dews and damps I can read the righteous sentence in the dim and flaring lamps His day is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on. In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea With a glory in his bosom that transfigures you and me As he died to make men holy, let us die to make men free! While God is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.
This made me cry, because it made me think of my dad. My dad was a proud United States Navy veteran. Back in 1958, was a member of the United States Navy Blue Jacket Choir Great Lakes Naval Academy. My dad went home to be with The Lord in 2018. In 2016 my dad voted for Trump.
What a magnificent moment. With Grant and Lincoln presiding over the occasion while the future of our country's finest march in singing The Battle Hymn of the Republic. It gives me hope, as a father and as a proud American. "His Truth goes Marching On"!!!!!!!
Even as a Canadian, I've always loved 'The Battle Hymn of the Republic' (as well as 'The Call to Muster and Battle Cry of Freedom'). Plus, few countries do pomp and circumstance of auspicious occasions as well as America, particularly during America's Inauguration Day ceremonies and President Trump's was GLORIOUS! God bless him, his cabinet members, and America!
This is absolutely masterful from the arrangement to the vocals to the marching and formation. The little Asian girl looks so happy and may be crying. I am sending this to everyone I know who would appreciate it!
We cried it was so beautiful. And I thought of this scripture from Psalm 72:6 as they sang. "And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord."
Stunning performance. Thank you to the Naval Academy Glee Club, LCOL Nowlin and the Marine Band and the choir director (not named but appears to be an Army LCOL). The third verse is very emotional and a real tear jerker (In the beauty of the lilies....) but they really did it well.
I used to sing this exact same song in my high school glee club. I was air playing the accompaniment in the air because I still remembered this song! I was sitting in my car and it brought back memories and tears. It was played by piano where now the band was playing it. 😊❤😭. It hasn’t changed one bit. That was in the early 70s
Kudos to the event planners, the Naval Academy Glee Club, The Marine Corps' Band (The President's Own), and the Army conductor - what a spectacular performance! Go America!
A great day for America (and hopefully for the rest of the West and its allies) and one has to admire the pomp and circumstance of President Trump's Inauguration Day. To quote America's 'Battle Hymn of the Republic': "Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! His truth is marching on."
This music is like the Sun once again shining on our great nation. Thank you God, thank you President Trump for enduring so much to help repel what no longer bidens us.
Counting the event as 1hr40min (from entrance to applause) the slowed-down, a capella verse formed the exact center-point of the entire event (50min). In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me: As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free, While God is marching on. May this message, the need to be transfigured in Christ and take up our cross, also remain at the center of our country!

Horrible performance of such a beautiful song at such a significant moment. The male voices sang at a completely rushed tempo and stumbled over the part "truth is marching." The overall sound was terrible, the voices lacked proper harmonious blending, and everyone sang out of sync-a disastrous performance.
My experience in broadcasting and audio production tells me that what you’re hearing is an effect of the difficulties of mic’ing such a performance properly, not the quality of the actual presentation, which was top-notch. Put this group in a recording studio and it’d be up to your exacting standards-you’d be able to hear it yourself. They do have an album out on all the streaming services if you’d like to hear the difference.
I agree with the other commenters.. The performance was beautiful, what you’re hearing is an audio issue. The recordings are picking up various changes in tonality due to the singers moving and mic placement.. That was incredibly negative review.. You doing okay man?
This is an unmixed, live performance captured by mics on handheld cameras-and you're complaining about the mix? I thought it came out very well because it is so very real, and judging by the comments above, it hit the mark.
You do know what an echo is right? Sound waves bouncing all around that huge stone chamber… and have you ever sung a song in those conditions. Professionals have to train and practice before singing in huge stadiums and sports arenas. You’re going to nitpick what is most likely audio engineering issues with broadcasting and blame it on a young amateur choir who by the way performed beautifully. Unless you were present to witness their singing, kindly keep your amateur reviews to yourself.
This performance was so incredibly moving, I've watched the replay 5 times already.
Same here!!! It was Absolutely beautiful!! I can’t stop watching this. 😊
Same. Tears every time I’ve seen it.
As recently retired Navy Veteran…I’m so proud of these Midshipmen of the USNA…so powerful, so moving 🫡🇺🇸🫡
@@adcjjthank you for your service ❤🇺🇸

I have never been proud of my country since 9/11/2001. Even in the “lean” times, I loved it,but this ups it.
Cant stand Trump but that was awesome how they did that
