Customer Spotlight - Mike Copeland's Hydrogen Powered 1964 Falcon

- Mike has been pretty outspoken about alternative fuels, specifically Hydrogen for a few years now. Last year he unveiled a 3100 pickup (#ProjectZero) that utilized a Hydrogen fueled, supercharged LS3 and our complete chassis at SEMA 2021. He brought that same truck to compete in Optima's Ultimate Street Car at SEMA 2022.
For SEMA 2022 Mike brought his newest creation, this absolutely stunning '64 Falcon Futura powered by a Gen III Coyote. We were excited to talk with Mike about the new build. He had been sending us little teaser pics here and there so to see it in person was a treat. No detail was overlooked. Check out the video and let us know what you think.

I'll be glad when the independent, original, run on water fuel cells are able to come out. They have been running over 50 years now.
If that the case have they perfected the. The process ) an if so how much will it cost to fill up) when the vehicle breaks) where do you take it to fix it) i ask these questions. Because keep a vehicle along time it breaks) what about maintaining the vehicle) cost) no millionaire just your average joe )

So...with hydrogen burning so clean. The oil should stay cleaner longer. So, thoughts on oil longevity since it won't get dirty like a gasoline engine.
Ding dong oil will last longer no oil in the tank oil companies lose a lot of money. To hell with the planet and the people who will die big oil needs there money.

@@johncarter1137It's zero emission. Elon. Is against fools cells, but this is hydrogen combustion. The technology could compete with BEV if priced low enough and hydrogen available.

This is not Hydrogen fuel cell tech. They are burning H2 in a V8 engine. I wonder what the range is and the cost of H2? Very cool tech but not economically viable.
If Mike can do it, why aren't more big companies following suit 🤔

Whilst the quality of the show car is impeccable, hope that it does not distract that you have done something really note worthy with the hydrogen conversion. Keep up the good work and hope hydrogen conversions become more common.

I have met with some "Big Oil", and they are in support of hydrogen.
As a fellow falcon owner, I love to see our hobby continue and no longer be a detriment to the environment. How does this retrofit deal with the low ignition energy of hydrogen safely? Are the fuel lines/tanks designed to prevent or detect leakage? Very excited to see more of this in the aftermarket!

@@1987whitezNot To mention the open pit mining to get the different minerals to make the batteries. The Child labor to help get it. The deforestation of the land for the mine which adds to the weather changes and oxygen levels.

I had a 65 falcon with a 289....drove it to work everyday. I bought it from a guy that got it from his mother....it had 60k miles on it in the early 90's...100% stock. Wish I still had it.
Hydrogen is the future and oil companies know it. Soon petroleum will be relegated to lubrication...asphalt and plastic.
Bet the plugs don't foul and I wonder what oil change intervals are?

Any vehicle converted to run with our system will require a computer to control the fuel and timing. We will not be able to retain a carb.
@shophemi that sucks,I have no patience for computers,there cool when they work,but when they don't work,where do you put the wrench on it to fix it? I wanna drive em not program them,computers = $$$$$$$ to fix and the common consumer is broke,lol I have built a hydrogen cell and put the tube up to the carb and it wouldn't do anything,then I caped off the top of the carb,used a nitrous fogger plate and got it to run,I was shocked,reved up,went forward and back,didn't drive it on the road,but I havnt revisited it yet to mess around,I think hydrogen is AWESOME,computers I fn hate,there's got to be a way to convert carb intakes,I think what you guys are doing is AWESOME wish I had $$$$ to invest,cheers! P.S. don't drink the cranberry juice like the other guy did and die on us all

Mike Copeland, remember the guy that had built a car that ran on water having a hydrogen fuel production cell. Do you remember what happened to him? Watch your back Big Brother doesn't like competition with the Industrial Complex. Hire an armed bodyguard, I think it is a prudent move .... 🤔

First, beautiful and fascinating car! (I followed you on your truck hydrogen car and ran into this by accident as I generically looked up 64 Falcon Sprint! Beneath the beautifully Classic mod sits a car that was a spitting image of my stock 64 Sprint 4-speed sitting on 13" wire hubcaps. (I love the car...it was a cherry on top that it was identical in color as the one I sold!) It looked 6 shades of blue in different sun conditions:) (I can tell you a story about phoesant's chasing my car after a short photo shoot at the park...pecking at the chrome bumpers and mesmerized by the blue paint:) Tue story! I loved to play with that car on the street! and yearn to own another one someday (As I look towards retirement).
(I GENUINELY WONDER IF THAT WAS MY CAR? The color looked identical! (I sold mine in early 90's out of Everett Washington from a collector that stored nice cars.) (I owned the car for a half dozen years and cruised Alki in Seattle, enjoyed Auburn Drive in's. It tugs my heart. It really hurt to sell it-but I was thrilled that someone might reinvest in my little joy ride! I think I sold it for $4K back '90? Small paint chips, and the transmission sincro's were just about to wear to the point of intent. I went back to Community College and knew it still looked relatively pristine, so I cashed in for my future. I wasn't going to have the money, time, or storage to keep the car right. It really was a Great diamond in the not very rough! It sounds like it was rough when you got it. IT WOULD TICKLE ME TO KNOW THIS MIGHT BE THE SAME CAR? What general area do you live? Being as I own a64 Falcon Sprint I would have liked to have seen a picture of how the hydrogen tank is positioned in the car instead you talked about sponsors I would probably put it in the back of the car and run it longitudally along the centerline of the car my trunk is big enough for several corpses eliminating the back seat made a lot of room for the roll bar, rear mounted battery and the nitrous tank

This is awesome and I LOVE The concept of hydrogen-powered cars! But I have only one concern. There will always be car accidents. Will hydrogen cars blow up like a tiny nuke in a bad car-to-car accident?
No, as long as there is no oxygen in the tank where the hydrogen is stored. This technology can be safer. The economy of the vehicle will increase tremendously, comparing a gallon of gas to a gallon of water. It is also very possible to produce hydrogen on demand, but that would be very dangerous in a different way. If airplanes and passenger jets used this technology, they would be able to fly higher, faster, lighter, longer, safer. This technology also has the potential to help clean the environment.

I got a question, what kind of MPG are we looking to gain or lose with hydrogen as the fuel?
The truck Mike built gets between 250-300 miles on one tank, probably gonna be around the same with the falcon, because the tank he had in the bed of the truck looks small enough to sit in the trunk of the falcon. Not sure though cause they've done more modifications with the hydrogen water ratio, so it might go even more miles on one tank. I'm glad Mike's doing this because I'm not a fan of the battery powered automobiles, they're not for everybody especially if you live in a cold environment like Alaska.

Why on Earth haven't individual car buffs nor major car manufacturers decided to convert a plug-in hybrid PHEV to run on combustible hydrogen PHEV+H? Equivalent MPG could be twice or three times that of a standard or performance drivetrain ICEngine running on hydrogen. Oh well.
