  • Welcome to another layout tour video. We recently visited John and Judy Fiero's Baltimore and Ohio RR, an HO scale layout that emcompasses three seperate rooms in their basement. The layout is fully operational and the scenery is spectacular! Judy made nearly all the trees and did a fantastic job painting the backdrops.
The era is the late 1940's. The railroad runs from Cumberland, MD to Connellsville, PA. (Staging) The main yard and engine service facility are in Cumberland. John does have operating sessions and can accomodate 6-8 operators.
John is a prolific craftsman kit builder, and he enjoys building and selling kits. He has a robust business and many repeat customers as his skill and craftsmanship are top notch. Judy even gets into the game- she does the weathering and it is absolutely gorgeous!
So sit back and enjoy the tour. We even ran the camera car to provide a unique and interesting view of the layout.
I wish to thank Mr. Dick Bradley for his efforts to introduce me to John and keep pushing for a video. Thanks as well to John and Judy for taking the time to show us their wonderful layout and for their gracious hospitality. They are both extremely skilled and it was an absolute pleasure to see the results of their efforts!
Thank you for watching. If you enjoyed, please Like, Share and if not a subscriber please Subscribe so you don't miss any future updates, Product Information Videos, and other Model Railroading related videos!

What a delightful tour! I was born in Cumberland and raised in Hyndman. I didn't think anybody knew these places existed.. lol.
It brought back a flood of memories, including my ride on the last passenger train from Hyndman to Cumberland.
What a fabulous pike! Thank you for the tour!

Fine layout, fine layout. I can recall, as a young lad going out shopping and, occasionally, being stopped at a nearby B&O grade crossing. I always thought that their bay window cabooses were pretty cool. Also, Judy's backdrop artwork is truly remarkable. Her expert depiction of atmospheric extinction is nothing short of impressive. I grew up with the Pennsy and the B&O so this is a real treat for me. As a matter of fact, one of my maternal grandfather's brothers was a steam locomotive engineer on the B&O.

Love your videos Rob! John may remember me, he used to work at the local hobby store in Jamestown NY. My dad and I would stop in a talk to him while getting stuff for our model railroad and I can remember him showing us photos of his layout. I never got to see it until I found this video! What a beautiful layout! Love your videos of the kits you build and these tours! -Steve

I love how he makes the trees smaller in the background - forcing perspective and depth. And then there are the backdrops... I favor photo backdrops, but this is AMAZING.

Impeccable. Your wife's landscapes behind Rockwood look so convincing with your aesthetic forward work on the bench.
I have modeled the B&O for decades and have a layout set in 1947 of Harpers Ferry to Ellicott City with the Brunswick engine yards and the Point of Rocks interchange and district. I too placed Ellicott City beneath the Brunswick MD benchwork and built the street scene dipping down to a mirror allowing a street leading away perspective. I too placed N scale farmhouses, barns and livestock figures on the background hills to force perspective as well as a smaller scale Hilltop House hotel above Harpers Ferry station.
The layouts are very similar, but your work bests mine. Thank you for sharing this.

These layouts are some of the best ever seen on RUclips. You have a great eye for capturing these layouts. John & Judy are artists! The backdrop that Judy did is beautiful! John's skills are awesome too! Thank you for sharing with us this couple's hi rail empire.

An excellent video-tour of a fantastic layout Mr Bennett. Maybe because I'm not too familiar with U.S. prototypes or layouts but I noticed a lot of similarities between this layout and your own. Another thing I noticed with John & Judy's set-up: much shorter trains than many American layouts, more akin to British prototype. As someone has already pointed out, these people are certainly ARTISTS - 5000+ trees - just staggering.
Thanks for sharing this lovely creation with us.
    All the Best,
    Dougie from Scotland.

Love the layout I'm getting good ideas for my 60 s era LIRR trains which were a deisel fleet of manly Alco C420 high hoods . Them and the R s 1 Rs2s or RS 3 sand S2s ran from 50s to 76then mainline was electrified to M1s until 80s then M3 came into picture .Long Island was loyal to Alco .Then Alco shutdown and the came GP38-2s with bicentennial paint scheme
In 90s they got rid of mainly paror cars and bar cars with new bilevels with the new DE series of genset diesels and genset 500 numbers which were diesels or straight locomotives which were 420series .They also did push pulls with the Fa1s or Fa 3s.The old dashing fan loco on older passenger cars looked the nicest . I'm surprised they changed the orange and grey to blue and yellow on these older locomotives . LIRR should have kept some Alco C420s and Rs 1 2 or 3s around . I'd like to bring in 2 clinchfieldlocos too.

Another great layout tour....that said it was hard to hear much of the dialog because of the train noise in the background...maybe not so much of the train sound next time. Otherwise keep up the great video work....thanks

Why not balance train sounds and dialog. Do not talk when the train is in the foreground.
