Yes, fields looked good but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves, we went against two bad teams and only scored 31 points. Let's see how he looks against a good team, be patient and let him develop
Justin Fields is my QB. I see a lot of fans calling for Russ, but Fields looks like he's playing with the game plan he is given and he isn't making mistakes. I like him.
I wonder if an unconscious bias towards close games has been baked into officiating over the last 10-20 years. It seems to me at least that officials all too often make calls that keep the games close.
While he played better, he has not done enough to convince me he's the starter, let alone the future. 16 points a game is not gonna cut it deep into the season
If we were 0-2 with the same offensive production or lack there of, people would be begging to Russell to start. The real star here is the defense that is only allowing 8 ppg.
I have been saying all preseason that we need another WR2 and now everyone can see it. I am impressed with Justin Fields. Had no preconceived notions though..he’s doing well
All the complaints they had in Chicago i'm seeing here. Short to intermediate passes you need the wingspan of a pterodactyl to catch those passes, his pocket elusiveness is horrible and takes to many sacks. If you compare his pocket elusiveness to Ben not only is he not in the same ball park, he's not in the parking lot of the ball park. I 'm not getting the excitment people have for him. Bring on Russ. Lets see what he looks like.
J1Q: So I have a different perspective on Broderick Jones. I read your article this morning DK. Great article btw, but for me, the BJ saga just really seems to be setting up for a dumpster fire execution of utilization of a quality 1st round draft pick. I may be completely wrong, but more and more as I see BJ in interviews and such, his drive seems to be dwindling. Others have said it, and I agree, that OT’s will say, “yeah, wherever they want me, I will be there”. I’m not buying that. I am a Tomlin fan but I get so frustrated when I see these guys not placed where they naturally perform best. Why would you go and spend top (draft) dollar to have someone positioned where they cannot perform the same as why you freaking drafted them??!!! I just don’t get the logic. So you hold a top tier draft back from growing even more at their natural position to let another guy (Moore) who is a late bloomer maybe (?), grow to be good at that same position. It seems to me that Dan Moore is good now, and who knows what his ceiling will be, but in the process we may be wasting a guy who could have possibly grown to be the best in the league by his innate skill at that position (LT), and his freakish build. Who knows, I could be wrong, but I see this as sincerely mismanaged and believe that it is taking the drive out of Jones. Hope it’s not too late to get him back where he belongs before he also like others wants out of the Burgh.
I commend DK for toning down some of the verbiage with Fields this week - from "this is his team" to "he is the undisputed QB 1 right now ". He's been great and deserved to start last week and obviously next week. I'm excited and every Steeler fan should feel allowed to be excited about what they've seen from JF.. BUT.. I'm not delusional to think this can't go off the rails very quickly and this is his team. No, if he puts a couple stinkers together and Russ gains his health we will undoubtedly go back to Russ. He needs to play like this for many more games and against much better teams before this becomes his team and we can continue designating Russ the backup even after a stinker or two from Fields. But anyway, he's making fantastic decisions and throws and I'm super hopeful we've found our next franchise QB! Oh and the officiating thing I also thought Denver got hosed way worse than us this week (in ATL it was us that were hosed way worse) - I thought some of those defensive PI calls were quite questionable aside from the holding of Jefferson's hand, which was a great call. The holds on Broderick seemed legit too.
DK is Cam Heyward filling a similar role to Aaron Smith in the later years? (Eating blocks so other guys can make splash plays) I understand that is the job of a DT but we were so spoiled with the splash plays Cam made. As a stats nerd I wish I could see how many TFL are made with Cam versus the other DTs.
Can he beat Mahomes? Allen? No! But I know who can and has, Russ. I don't see what people are seeing here. If being one and done in the playoffs is the goal, then roll with fields.
Good show DK… I’m not even gonna try to speculate who the QB is gonna be. I have no clue. I completely understand why everyone starting to endorse Justin Fields a lot more he’s made some plays and I give him his credit. I still feel however that he’s holding onto the ball too long. Either way him and Russell Wilson are benefiting from a defense playing lights out football. I don’t have much to say about the penalties because it was sloppy on both teams part . This is the downside of teams, not playing their starters a lot during the preseason. A lot of sloppy ball has to come out.
Would you rather he throw for 110 yards and wins or 350 yards and loses? Stats are for fantasy leagues. In reality... i just want the Steelers to have more points than the other team by the end of the game and at least look like theyre learning and progressing while they do it
Goff threw for 307 on 55 passes and they lost scoring only 16 points. You want a W or a L? I’ll take the 2-0 start. A huge key to being successful in Sports is properly managing momentum.
We really need roman to play in game 3 coz we really need a competent wr 2. Those refs were yet again brutal. I would crank up the throws to gp. Keep throwing it to George until he's double covered 100%. And use Justins legs more - that's his super power. And pls get healthy Isaac & keep brod on the bench until he's fully healthy & just keep him practicing at LT. We get Dylan cook back off ir soon. He can be back up at rt. Keep Justin in!! Love being at top of the afcn & the rest of the teams only have 1 win! 😅😅
Even Kenny Pickett made nice throws. Accurate passing consistency and not turning over the ball is key QB play. Justin Fields has been humbled after being traded for a 6th round pick. Can Fields win a game against a great team that scores 20+ points on our defense? FYI: Mason Rudolph has had the best two offensive games as a QB for the Steelers in over two years. I hope they do not offer Fields a long term multi-million dollar contract without him having at least one game like Mason had last year. Be patient Steelers, there will be several great available QBs that are on one year contracts that can be signed and not blow our salary cap on someone like Watson or Daniels. Baker Mayfield is a good example of reason for people to be patient. Could fields re-invent himself and be as good as Baker? How about Sam Darnold? Did he re-invent himself? He looked great against the Niners (a great team).
JF had an impressive game.... a 2nd TD pass was called back on a bad call... he had an out of this world 51 yard pass (maybe the best pass of the year) called back on a holding call while Fields was already out of the pocket.... and 2 other accurate deep sideline throws that were called for pass interference -- so Pitt got the yards but it they were not credited to the QB.... he consistently beat the blitz.... JF easily had at least 225/250 air yards plus 2 TD's on the day taken away from him..... and he still had a very good QBR..... and most importantly, he got the Dub.
Great response to the J1Q. It is tiresome to hear fans complain that the officials are "against us". I thought the crew in Denver, while "over-officious", was better than the crew in Atlanta who missed several blatant calls as well as called the weakest OPI in league history. Crews have good days and bad days, but thinking they're biased is laughable. Thank you, DK.
They really need to make a tough decision , nonetheless, regarding the O-Line situation. Don’t have a guy battling an obvious injury, that’s stopping him from really playing, out on the field. You can’t really blame technique, when the guy can’t fully do that, due to injury. Young or not, it’s an unquestioned responsibility to value the player and , preserve them. A worst scenario is , a worsening injury , due to overload of playtime. Broderick is a talented o-lineman. He’s proved that playing an opposite-sided position last year. Once he heals, I see our o-line getting even better. Go Black and Gold!
If Herbert is the first good QB the Steelers have faced then 3 teams have made quite a mistake paying Kirk Cousins half a billion dollars to play the position. Lots of revisionist history about week 1 going around. That’s a good QB with lots of 1st round talent around him.
#J1Q . Hey DK, been a fan for a while, but this is my first J1Q submittal. I was wondering what you think about a potential trade for Russell Wilson to go to the Dolphins. I know this may seem far fetched, but with Tua injured and no real idea when/if he may come back, and Justin Fields performing at a level that the Steelers seem to be happy with, this seems like it would be beneficial for both sides. OH, and the dolphins have some good WR's in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle that would fill that void the steelers have been longing to do.
It’s great to see JF perform the way he did, especially in the first half, and the offense mixing up plays in well sustained drives. Obviously, that’s what we’ve been missing. But the constant penalty flagging is really taking away from the game, making it virtually unwatchable. I just hope that’s an early season issue, and the Steelers work out those bugs soon, before we get into the meat of our schedule 😮.
In response to your J1Q answer, then why do Watt and Highsmith get no help from the officials? As the J1Q question pointed out, they were held constantly and were NOT the recipients of flags while Broderick Jones received one of the ticky-tack flags for which this crew is supposedly known?
If healthy Russ deserves to start next week. And I’m sure Mike Tomlin feels the same way. With that said Russ will start next week. And rightlfully so. Mark my words!
Looks like what we should've expected so far with this team. I see a line that's doing what most of the rest of the league is doing, too, trying to gel. I feel like we're "on schedule" if that makes any sense. I'm not worried about Jones. Growing pains. Takes 3 to 4 years, right?
Don’t tell me how to feel. 😅 I’m happy for the wins and for Justin displaying some of his talents, but I for one am just not jacked up about what tomorrow may bring. This season could be great. But it could also be Groundhog Day - repeat 2023. One TD in 2 games? QB “protecting the ball?” Lots of penalties? Super strong defense? It all sounds too familiar.
I’m not sure even Mahomes could have thrown a better ball on the scramble throw to GP that didn’t count. We have a legit GUY and need to role with him. Yeah will he make mistakes? Sure, no young QB or any QB for that matter doesn’t make some mistakes. We can’t expect perfection from him but MAN he is an upgrade in every way from what we had. Maybe trade Russ to QB needy team for WR help he waived no trade clause?? He wants to play, no???
The Steelers have scored a total of 31 points in first 2 games. Boswell has 25 of them. The offense has the remaining 6. That’s not good. You can’t rely on your kicker to average 12.5 points per game to win. Nest week vs LA Chargers they better put 31 up on the board to have a good chance to win.

I can’t comprehend why we don’t sit Broderick until his elbow is fully healthy. He’s getting holding calls cause he’s getting beat.
Exactly. As much as we need him, I’d bench Broderick if it meant he’s 100% next week.
They're also playing him out of position. Every O-lineman will say they're "comfortable at any position" to the media, but we drafted him for his success at LT, NOT RT.

Also, remember the coaches seemingly have the oline confused. every year it's moving and questioning. okafor, dotson, green, finney, cole, moore, jones, fautanu and many more. Once they leave the oline alone I believe the points will pick up.
@@lawnjenkins that makes sense to me. It's still early
I want to see a game of russ just to see what he can do
There's a lot of tape of Russ last year, go watch that lol

@TheMrob25 nope, I prefer to adapt to reality. You are probably part of the Danny dimes fan club lol

I actually think they should put wilson back in when healthy. give him a shot see how it goes you can always turn the team back over to jf if it doesnt work out
Still want to see what Wilson can do🤷🏻♂️
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
If we want him to be the potential franchise quarterback let him play a little more loose , plus we need to use his legs more that’s more of the part that makes him who he is.
From my assessment the steelers are treating Fields like a rookie. Trying to eliminate his bad habits and giving him confidence.
The Steelers were always a get a lead, then sit on that
lead…against the great teams, that won’t cut it. Great teams keep fighting to the very end. AKA Moholmes, Jackson, etc. You have to put the peddle to the floor, and keep it there…👍🏻😎😤
Yes, fields looked good but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves, we went against two bad teams and only scored 31 points. Let's see how he looks against a good team, be patient and let him develop
Justin Fields is my QB. I see a lot of fans calling for Russ, but Fields looks like he's playing with the game plan he is given and he isn't making mistakes. I like him.
I remember seeing fields on the Netflix show QB1, even in highschool dude just seemed level headed.
Broderick's gotta get himself right, whether it's mentally or physically before they put him out there. I still believe he's an elite talent.
If we were 0-2 with the same offensive production or lack there of, people would be begging to Russell to start. The real star here is the defense that is only allowing 8 ppg.
I have been saying all preseason that we need another WR2 and now everyone can see it. I am impressed with Justin Fields. Had no preconceived notions though..he’s doing well
The Bears Didn’t know what they had. Thank You Chicago. Caleb Williams looked Great too 🤣
DJ Moore knew 😂 he told the bears on multiple interviews, keep JF!
How about that Defense!!!!
So you can cry about him to couch QB 😂 🤡
Thanks for reading it, Joe! - Dejan
@@DKPS_Steelers absolutely! You’re the best in the Burgh at what you do.
Here we go.
Despite the mistakes and penalties, coming out of Denver with a win because JF played mistake-free is super encouraging! #PSFL
Also, the second half on the first downs. It was always a run up the middle.
Im not sure if the Steelers are ready to invest $150 million into Fields yet. Not before we see Russ play with this team.
Need russ in
Can he beat Mahomes? Allen? No! But I know who can and has, Russ. I don't see what people are seeing here. If being one and done in the playoffs is the goal, then roll with fields.
Boo hoo
Good show DK… I’m not even gonna try to speculate who the QB is gonna be. I have no clue. I completely understand why everyone starting to endorse Justin Fields a lot more he’s made some plays and I give him his credit. I still feel however that he’s holding onto the ball too long. Either way him and Russell Wilson are benefiting from a defense playing lights out football.
I don’t have much to say about the penalties because it was sloppy on both teams part . This is the downside of teams, not playing their starters a lot during the preseason. A lot of sloppy ball has to come out.
In all of his 110 yard glory
Come on man the flags reduced his yards and plus the Steelers played way to conservative in the second half
Love DK but he’s so wrong on Fields. This offense has Tomlins dirty hands all over it and letting Mason go was a big mistake.
@@dandunne-d5b dead horse, stop beating it!
We're set up for 17 pts a game through week 9... Then what??? We're Doomed...
Watching the ball jump off his hand...it's been a long time.
I would still draft another qb next year and I’m a Buckeyes fan to
Still too bad that tomlin overlooked Rudolph for so long
Great response to the J1Q.
I think both crews were garbage and DK seems more apt to defend them than to actual describe the reality of the situation… it’s sad really
Very happy #27 is healthy...future is bright. #GOTRICE #GOSTEELERS
Please move Broderick to the left side and keep him there.
Let's go O!
Fields did his job as the backup quarterback but lets not get crazy he has 32 starts with 1 td or less and 1 300 yard passing game in his career
Exactly. These Justin Field Goal fans are so delusional
I'm a bears fan and I hated when they picked Caleb over fields so I'm gonna follow fields
They were flag heavy on both sides
Boswell = 25 points
All other Steelers = 6 points😂 😂
Is it not a team sport ? 🤡
@@Keefer24 Yet I see other teams score touchdowns....
He played what they wanted Kenny Pickett to do. Fields is the guy
Who told anyone how to feel? Find it. Be specific. - Dejan
Whoa, DK! Shots fired at Kirk Cousins lol, you don't consider him formidable?
Who starts at QB next week? Although I am not sold on Fields yet.....I still know Wilson is old and I am pretty sure he is done. Start Fields!
Anybody can correct me if I’m wrong, but I think we had like 10 penalties plus those were drive killers for the offense
Fields is a work in progress. We just need to let him progress.
5:01 dumped on Kirk 😂😂
