I was dying when you said “maybe that is something you should talk about with your therapist.” I legitimately talked to my therapist about crocheting bringing out unhealthy perfectionist tendencies yesterday 😂 It was comforting knowing that I’m not alone in that 😅 “Our hobbies shouldn’t stress us out” should be tattooed on my arm. Really love your channel!
Totally agree. I’m a newbie and I find it best to look at multiple videos for stuff. I also think the bit about mistakes is good. I’ve just spent 3 weeks doing rows and ripping it out and redoing till I’d wear out the yarn and grab another small run of yarn. I realized I had a case of “can’t finish itis”. I was afraid to even start my first project for fear that my stitches weren’t perfect. When it hit me I just decided on a sweater with cheap yarn. I may wear it and I may not but I’ll learn how to actually make something. I already have several small mistakes or imperfect stitches and I realize “ nobody’s gonna know”.
I can highly recomend learning to put in lifelines! I am one of those who cant really overlook mistakes so i have to rip back and frog my knitting when I make mistakes (which happen alot!). By learning lifelines I don’t have to start the project all over again when I make mistakes!
I agree with every single point you made, especially regarding the trends! My first sweater was the weekender, and I don't think I would have made it if it wasn't plastered all over the gram lol.
SO many great points Mandy! When I was first starting out, I wish I knew that not every ball of yarn is the same yardage! It took me a few projects to realize that haha! Very Pink Knits is the BEST knitting tutor on RUclips in my opinion! You're so right that her video are to the point, but what I also like about her is that her instructions are at a good pace for me -- there are so many tutorials out there that are WAY too slow. We all have different designers and patterns that we're interested in. I'm actually not a Jessie Maed fan even though she's super popular and I see her patterns all over Instagram. My favourite beginner-friendly designer is Knitatude -- her designs are so classic and have easy to follow instructions.
The slow mo Very Pink Knits tutorials have saved my life a few times! I actually just bought a Knitatude pattern during her birthday sale! Excited to try out another designer.
I tend to have offbeat/alt style in general, but even I find myself falling victim to mere exposure effect when I constantly hear Internet Knitters gush over My Favorite Things Knitwear and Petite Knit. Like, no. No. Stop. I don't genuinely "want to make those patterns, but in black." Luckily I always catch myself before making the yarn purchase!

It definitely makes more of an impact than you would think! My internal dialogue over single ply chunky sweaters has been intense.

“Grandmas sweet potato vegan chili” made me laugh out loud.
This was helpful 😊
