I don't know why it happens but sometimes the advent troops just act like concealment isn't a thing and go straight for you even though they shouldn't. I personally consider that a bug. The video was still entertaining and Binnie was an absolute mad lad!
I don't actually think it is a bug, it is to stop players from exploiting concealment. Xcom 1 had a lot of issues with players exploiting things hard. Xcom 2 cracked down on potential exploits by just outright cheating. A very interesting one you can see is breaking line of sight for everyone with a large wall. The AI will, if the AoE can hit, often throw it at all the wall despite having 0 vision of anyone behind it. It is very spiteful if the player attempts to outsmart it.
It's not a bug, it's to prevent players from cheesing the game with concealment. The way it works is that one pod will always move between you and the objective to block your path, closing in more and more the longer you stay concealed to eventually force you out.
Lets just add little bit of fun story to this one. Lets say this is the reaper that found the commander and when seeing the tank gave him a flurry of inspiration and decided to say fuck it and took on the entire alien occupation on earth.
The Dark Event that adds the lost to missions just makes me chuckle. They are far more dangerous to the aliens than the Commander. They have literally only ever made missions easier, its comical to watch them just plow through alien squads
I think they removed the AI cheat in Long War, so despite Long War being much harder, its possible to do a solo stealth mission because the pods will NOT know where you are until they are alerted.
You are an amazing player! These challenges are insanely dificult on a game that is already, to put it mildly, unforgiving. I learn a lot from your videos, thank you :)
I always get angry seeing others play xcom2 and how lucky they get. So many execute hits. Meanwhile I'm constantly getting critically hit in full cover by enemies half the map away.
I wonder if this challenge could be won using a single reaper per event, but only 1 reaper per mission. Could allow you to avoid some more dark events/ retaliation missions but would keep some of the same challenges like dealing with bosses like the assassin.
2 years later and all I'm thinking about is that Warlock who had a bad day, how many times was he insta-killed? 5? 6? "Xcom will fall to the might of m-" *gets executed*
Reaper with extended mag, scope, repeater and some fun ammo with banish can kill pretty much all enemies in one go. The Reapers really do brake the entire game :D
Oh its happening for sure we'll do all the classes first and then take each class on legendary difficulty for a season 2 of sorts! (also will do a tier list once all the classes are done)
Reapers bring back memories for me. I had one execute the Berserker Queen on the same turn that she appeared. I watched three rows of health bars vanish in two seconds. My buddy and I laughed for hours about it.
I really didn't get why banish was so good, when it breaks my concelment, and I can usually get close enough to get 100% hit and 100% Crit Chance anyway..... Then I met the rulers, and their Bullshit turn economy. Suddenly I reeeeeally wished I'd gotten that banishment sooner. Plus my most OP trooper was my Templar with Bladestorm and Shadowstep...... Yeaaaah that's no good against berserkers, Berserker Queens, Advent purifiers, and Sectopods 😭
@@InsaneFrameis that always a bad thing, or can it be used to lead them? I've been noticing if I spend too long with my team concealed, then pods start making their way towards my party (even though they shouldn't know I'm there), which can make me panic, but is also great for preparing overwatch ambushes or claymore traps. Usually if my Reaper is far away from everyone else, and they take out 1/3 of a pod, the other 2/3 start sprinting back and forth, but rarely actually find me (thanks to that tiny perception on reapers. Even had one run through a doorway I was hiding next to, and somehow not see me)
The anti stealth "Line of play" mechanics is awful. Basically, yeah, AI knows where you are even if you're stealthing. There's some "center of the mass" mumbo jumbo workaround it, so you can generally work your way around it by using 2 more soldiers and setting them up in the corner of the map while your reaper does the job, so the ai will lock on the 2 poor fools. The devs shoved it into the game so the players won't be "exploiting" stealth. And even if it's an exploit, there's nothing wrong with it, because stealthing the mission is in the spirit of the goddamn game!
totally agree if your using stealth that's fair if the enemy have a "rough estimate" to where you are but if your in shadow a upgraded form of stealth it should be until your revealed or the enemy hone in on the sound or something!
Seen a guy do this with a full squad of reapers, don't know how hard it'll be with just one. Good luck. Edit: that was a great run, xcom is very nearly impossible with a single soldier but you held on long and stayed strong. Don't be disappointed by how it ended even runs with full teams can end that way, in the future you may be able to pull it off.
A fan of drifter are you? If so, his vods exist on the drifter's broadcast (his second channel). Honestly, worth watching if you want it on in the background 😁 ps. No shade to this channel, just directing people who enjoyed this to a channel that literally does only this xD

Would love to see a challenge run of only one SPARK. I'm sure a squad of 4 SPARKs would be ez pz, but 1 would be more of a challenge. They got a lot of what you would ever want from a soldier... health/armor, high damage weapon and surefire damage heavy weapons, innate armor shred, an ability that lets you shoot *three* times, no need to protect against mind control, no will debuffs, better mobility when going to the high grouind... I guess the only thing that would be bad would be the aim, but aim can be crutched by scopes in WotC. Another more fun challenge would be to use WotC soldiers only, so you can only use Skirmishers, Reapers, and Templars. Very doable on Commander, but might be a good challenge on Legend since you can get 3 early but they are kinda hard to come by later. Edit: Thought they didn't have jump jets until late, but apparently any SPARK comes equipped with them.
Kinda unrelated to the video, but I just realised I've never seen a xcom 2 video where people don't kill all 3 chosen and face them in the last mission.

No, it's always 0% as long as every shot is a kill shot. Without the ability, your first shot is a 50% chance to reveal, then 80%, then 100%. With silent killer ability, your shots have a 0% chance to reveal, as long as your target dies, with the chance increasing to 50% on every shot, if you fire at an enemy and fail to kill them. With this ability, you do everything you can to only take shots that you know will kill enemies. That way, you stay at 0% chance to reveal, instead of 50% chance on every shot (cause we all Know it's more like 95% chance) I usually take advantage of Target Definition to explore the entire map first, and tag every enemy before risking a single shot. The I'll usually either let the team soften a target up, and I finish them off (so I can get my Soul Harvest Crit bonus up to +20%), then when I have my Crit Chance at over 100% Crit Chance, and the rest of the pods havn't been triggered yet, I go around taking everyone out one by one, only bringing the rest of the team in when I know for certain I can't one-shot someone. I usually finish every mission with my Reaper still concealed 😂 (and yet he still wasn't the first to reach Colonel. That honor fell to my Bladestorm Templar, who could easily take down pods all by himself.
Honestly the 'Hunting' thing that the enemies do in Xcom 2 genuinely makes me wonder why they bothered with the concealment/stealth mechanics at all. The game just straight up makes the enemies head for your exact location if you've been in concealment too long, so it doesn't MATTER if you're in stealth or not, they WILL find you and they WILL reveal you. Why even bother putting stealth mechanics in the game in the first place if you're then also going to do that??
its good for scouting and ambushes but they really don't want to let you remain in concealment granted this class relies on it and the playthrough is for a single unit but totally agree let us do a stealth playthrough
Idk about when it's solo, but in normal missions, I like to imagine the longer we stay hidden, the more chance there is that somebody in the group will do something dumb, and soldiers will come to check it out. Like if you have 5 guys in Heavy Armour, carrying heavy weaponry, sat around in a hut for 20 minutes with nothing to do, eventually one of them is gonna knock over a cup, or a guard will notice the curtain moving, or someone will get a cough. What I find more funny, is when my Reaper is off hunting (not solo, just with the rest of the group back at the starting zone) and he blasts someone, the pod will trigger and show them pointing at my Reaper (with his dumb head poking out from behind a wall), but then they'll run around like headless chicken. You got probably the best Resistance Orders in the game. I was just thinking you were missing the one to reduce avatar progress .. and then you got it too!
You can still win this game. It's not strictly neccesary to kill any of the chosen in their strongholds. Any chosen you don't take out will simply show up in the first chamber of the last mission. With some luck (execute) you should be able to take them out there and hopefully finish the run.
problem here of course is that it adds an extra timer in the shape of teh Avenger Assault. If you think the stronghold is, tough, that one might be impossible with a single reaper.
@@Timelord79 I do believe the big gun can be shot with collateral damage. And the small ones really don't pack much of a punch. Not sure if you can loose this one if Aliens reach the ramp though. That would be an issue
Personally I enjoy skirmishers more. If you want a barrel of laughs try 2 skirmishers on highest difficulty. I say 2 because of the skills that affect squad mates allowing some hilariously long turns.
He has the Silent Killer ability, unlocked at Lieutenant Rank. "Kills with the Vektor Rifle do not increase the Reaper's chance to break out of Shadow" Meaning as long as every shot is a kill shot, he never has to flip any coins. The chance to reveal stays at 0%
New idea: Can you beat FNV while only completing each quest with a single weapon, and never again? (Name pending) Basically you can only use 1 weapon per quest, and then check that weapon off the list and never use it again. (I.E. using a 9mm for the goodsprings gunfight, clearing primm/ bison steve with a single shotgun, clearing the Mojave outpost ants with a shovel, etc. etc. I'm pretty sure there's more than enough weapons to complete the game.
@several webms well, you can do this by reloading a lot, I play heavily moded xcom so I know that can be a thing. In my games it's sometimes necessary since things like to get stuck from time to time
@several webms its a supercut of his entire run. The warlock mission alone was 10 tries if you didn't catch that part, it's not cheated, just showing the best parts.
Dont mean to be rude, just a small pet peeve of mine. Perhaps consider taking the microphone a bit further away. Can be a couple of unintentional "mouth sounds". Love these xcom challenges, turn based is my jam. Would love to see you check out divinity original sin 2, or baldurs gate 3. Anyways, cheers!
I would love to love xcom 2 but im really not a fan of the fact so many levels that start a turn timer that fails you if you play things slow and methodical like i do. It really turned me off of it. speaking as someone who preordered it, played when it first came out but then never touched it after the first hr or two of play. its been years since then
There's an option before you start the game to increase the mission timers! No one will fault you if you need to use it. I've used it a couple time when I was doing chill runs and there was maybe one mission where I was lazing about that the mission timer got within 3 rounds before failing.

@@sad_yorick No, WotC changed the map layout, so you now have to beat every enemy on the map before being auto loaded into the final chamber. Where before the chamber was connected to the rest of the map but no stealth unit was stealthy enough to sneak past because of higher detection radius.
Reaper's weapon is NOT weak. It has low base dmg, yes, but it's crit modifier is highest in game. So we take skills: 1. One that increases armor piercing from stealth. 2. Extra crit chance for each kill. 3. All skills for Claymore. 4. Car/explosives detonation. 5. Ideally would be to take extra utility slot skill and any double shot skill but it's totally random. In extra utility slot we take Talon ammo. 6. Hair trigger and laser sight upgrades. BAM! We got Reaper that kills Andromedon in one attack without even unstealthing.
U know what .. i love this class right up until the late game Claymores good not great Stickys pointless And the environmental explosions u can do are awsome but situational U cant throw an environmental explosive then trigger it with the skill that sets off environmental explosives which seems abit shit Claymores only get 1 upgrade threw the skill tree And even after setting off a claymore all of the enemies by late game are still standing ok they cant see u great So u Claymore them again There all dead if they are all still grouped together Thats just 1 pod ... Now what ... U fucked The class as i said was awsome early mid by late u would of been better off with any other class and its a shame Because the was the reapers gel with squads is awsome but theres simply not enough claymore or explosives in general to get them viable Not when i can use a sniper for massive damage on multiple targets Or gunslingers Or rangers Like i said any other class for huge damage that i cN use more than twice Such an awsome class for 2 3rds For the last mission ur just better off training a pcy operative instead
Honestly what I hate, is how few you can get. Their scouting ability is so OP, that it makes me want to take them on every mission, but then they get tired, and the only counter to that, is to not let them reach that threshold... But I dun wanna!! 😭 I feel naked when I have to go on a mission with just my Ranger scout. But if I want a 2ns Ranger, then I can't have a 2nd Templar, and I always want a Templar on every mission too, for that sweet Bladestorm pod/Reinforcement wipe out. You got probably the best Resistance Orders in the game. I was just thinking you were missing the one to reduce avatar progress .. and then you got it too!
Yes the resistance orders were fantastic they were superb!
My algorithm did not do anything to deserve this.
Pretty sure every reaper gets tactical rigging at least I have never seen one without.
I'm trying to complete this dlc for 5th, and you complete this with one stealth unit. Wow
Well... yes and no (spoilers I failed) the reapers can't output enough damage
@@InsaneFrame Were you doing this on ironman?
@@piotr3580 no I don't because single soilder challenges are pretty tough as they are especially facing chosen
@@InsaneFrame Ok, but how to get such a huge execution chance?
What did you learn from this video: claymore
Why did i struggle to find the reaper on the thumbnail
what reaper?
That repeater got some work done holy crap
Personally I enjoy skirmishers more.
If you want a barrel of laughs try 2 skirmishers on highest difficulty.
I say 2 because of the skills that affect squad mates allowing some hilariously long turns.
17:13 how are you wining so many coin flips in a row without revealing
He has the Silent Killer ability, unlocked at Lieutenant Rank.
"Kills with the Vektor Rifle do not increase the Reaper's chance to break out of Shadow"
Meaning as long as every shot is a kill shot, he never has to flip any coins. The chance to reveal stays at 0%
"Which is amazing".
Hmm... How about Chimera Squad using only 1 character? Not sure who. Maybe the Shield guy?
New idea: Can you beat FNV while only completing each quest with a single weapon, and never again? (Name pending)
Basically you can only use 1 weapon per quest, and then check that weapon off the list and never use it again. (I.E. using a 9mm for the goodsprings gunfight, clearing primm/ bison steve with a single shotgun, clearing the Mojave outpost ants with a shovel, etc. etc.
I'm pretty sure there's more than enough weapons to complete the game.
I might missed this but how can you deal with tiredness? I wanna do this kind of run too.
Try going to bed at the same time every day, limiting or stopping your screen use half an hour before bed, and drinking more water.
fair play, you gave it good go! was interesting and entertaining vid :)
i thought im watching the spiffing brit
Thankyou ill take that as a compliment :)
I’ve discovered a mad lad today
mate, that is not how my repeaters work, even a superior one won instakill this much :O
Music?
Audio library from youtube of all places!
Love it when rulers get executed XD
I cant get this game to run without constant crashes
I believe they did hotfix it perhaps im wrong but it took me a while to get it to work properly
@Apple Chips i actually started playing it yesterday because of this series. I simply used a mod to turn them off when applicable lol.
Isn’t it easy to break stealth, just path through something that needs opening like a window or door, though console revealing is aight
Hey man, how you been?
Hear me out. Saints Row 4. If you can, of course. I have it on my PS3 and its so goofy, but it makes it so fun. We can talk about it, but I just wanna know if you have it first.
Hope you're doing great man. Also, got me a new and remastered pfp!
Nope I dont sorry
@@InsaneFrame
Dammit man. I'd gift you it if I had money. Well, my birthday is coming up, October 15. of course, I'm asking from a early happy birthday. Other than that, I'll just keep watching this content. Thanks for uploading man
Yup..with reaper shits easy like cakewalk...specially when ur at commander difficulty.
Let's go!
Oh yeah :)
might ne late on this, but next time get an expanded clip instead of free reload. that way you can get more out of banish
You didn't need to try i knew that it wasn't posible 😅
Are you planing on doing more xcom:ew?
Yes of course i am
is it just me or does it kind of seem like you were meant to do solo reaper
Well I did do solo reaper it's tough really tough
@@InsaneFrame ya maybe a team of reapers would be easier
i love your video
Now I must buy XCom 2 😄
So you modded the repeater to guarantee proc during the Stronghold? Or just save rolled each shot until it proc'd?
But why did you need to beat the assasin? Just leave her be, no?
If you don't beat the chosen they all show up in the final mission or get a chance to capture you
@@InsaneFrame well, you are reaper - it will be in a final mission but you maybe can sneak past it?
@@InsaneFrame But you only need to kill the Assassin once in the final mission!
So we take skills:
This does not work in ironman mode
it can but you'd be doing too many attempts on a campaign but in the future I do have an idea that will use ironman mode
U know what .. i love this class right up until the late game
Claymores good not great
Stickys pointless
And the environmental explosions u can do are awsome but situational
U cant throw an environmental explosive then trigger it with the skill that sets off environmental explosives which seems abit shit
Claymores only get 1 upgrade threw the skill tree
And even after setting off a claymore all of the enemies by late game are still standing ok they cant see u great
So u Claymore them again
There all dead if they are all still grouped together
Thats just 1 pod ...
Now what ...
U fucked
The class as i said was awsome early mid by late u would of been better off with any other class and its a shame
Because the was the reapers gel with squads is awsome but theres simply not enough claymore or explosives in general to get them viable
Not when i can use a sniper for massive damage on multiple targets
Or gunslingers
Or rangers
Like i said any other class for huge damage that i cN use more than twice
Such an awsome class for 2 3rds
For the last mission ur just better off training a pcy operative instead
pretty much summs up all the pros and the cons of the class in one comment right there I have nothing to add
The only one I don't miss when they're tired, is the Skirmisher.
Commander difficulty no ironman?
Shameful, unless its legend ironman then it's not even xcom
