    How do you know (and let the client know) how much you’ll be able to accomplish in one 3-hour session? If they approach you for a pantry project for example, do you recommend a certain number of “sessions” to complete? What if the session is over, and you don’t finish the project at hand (ex: a pantry) what do you do? Related: is the time you spend planning/shopping off-site counted as time towards the session? Thanks in advance!

    • @KatherineLawrenceCPO
      @KatherineLawrenceCPO  4 года назад +9

      I like to start with a planning session and I try to "shop" during sessions with the client by ordering products online or making product recommendations that I can add to their action plan. I try to get as much done during a session as possible, but honestly a lot depends on the decision making ability of my client (like is it fast or slow). I can also accomplish more in a session if I bring in a team of organizers. Ultimately I'm working at the client's pace and with in their budget and goals. Some clients are ok doing "homework" or doing extra tasks that we don't complete during the session and others want me there for the entire organizing process which means more billable hours.

    • @mykah3317
      @mykah3317 5 лет назад +1

      Yes, but I'm also a full-time student pursuing a degree in neuroscience. I'd love a way to help myself market my already extant love for organizing/downsizing. I live in a sort of suburban location -- driving to locations is common. I used your coupon to begin listening to your online course on udemy. I'd like to be able to market my current abilities, though I know in the meantime I'd have a full five years of work to complete before I could take the CPO exam and call myself a professional.

    • @KatherineLawrenceCPO
      @KatherineLawrenceCPO  5 лет назад

      @@mykah3317 I'm sure you could find a niche to harness what you're studying...what are some connections between neuroscience and hoarding\organizing? I know I'm always making the connection between executive function and clutter with my clients. Also sleeping/eating/and general self care and how it affects ones ability to be organized and productive. Good luck and keep me updated!

    LOVE your channel, you're like the mentor I've never had! Do you have any fav forums or online resources for connecting w other organizers? I live in LA but I don't know anyone else who works in this field, and I'm feeling desperate for "coworkers" or people I can bounce ideas off of. So far my Go To resource has been reddit, specifically l the Declutter & KonMari subreddits. However those posters are mostly clients, whereas I'm looking to connect w other pros.
    I admit I've stayed away from the professional organizing associations because they all seem to require membership fees. I'd be willing to join one eventually, as I'd love to attend some in person education sessions/networking events, but I'm too shy to show up at one of those all by myself. If you know anyone in LA that is looking for a young up n comer to take under their wing & show them the ropes, I'd be delighted to connect w them! I've been organizing for almost a year now & it's going GREAT, I'm staying super busy-- but I am unsure if this is something I can scale up and turn into a long term professional career.
    Thanks in advance! Can't wait for more videos!

    • @KatherineLawrenceCPO
      @KatherineLawrenceCPO  5 лет назад +1

      YAY!! So glad to hear that! Feel free to post your questions here, I want to do more "Q&A" videos, and ultimately have a group coaching platform where we can all connect. I'm sure people have had difference experiences with NAPO, but for me the benefits more than justify the cost. I pay about $300 for my annual membership, plus 100 to my local chapter, and 100 for my CPO renewal. I get at least 10,000 in annual sales from referrals and connections with other PO's. There is also something called "virtual chapter". Maybe you would be more comfortable with attending those meetings than face to face meetings in LA? I'm also attending the Orlando conference in 2020 and when you attend those you can request a conference buddy. Stay in touch and good luck!

    I’m confused about the difference between hourly and session charges. Can you clarify that for me?

    • @KatherineLawrenceCPO
      @KatherineLawrenceCPO  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yep! Session rate is a single fee charged to the client for certain time frame (ex, $150 for a 1/2 day "session" or $300 for a full day "session") a session is loosely based on an hourly rate (ex, if you need to earn 50/hour, a 3 hour session = $150). I have found that session pricing is easier to understand for clients, and they know up front how much they need to pay you for your time when you show up to work on their kitchen, closet, etc. Whereas hourly has drawbacks like trying to calculate the exact time you are working when organizing projects are not quite an exact science...

    When it comes to adding product such as organizational decor or aesthetic storage how do you charge for these things or is included in pricing?

    • @KatherineLawrenceCPO
      @KatherineLawrenceCPO  Год назад +2

      It's impossible to include it in your service pricing because some clients need zero product while others want hundreds or even thousands $$$ of products... you can give clients links to products for them to purchase or you can purchase them and get reimbursed.

      What do house cleaners charge in your area and what do interior designers charge? PO's are sometimes within that range of home services. Shop your services around to your target audience and see what others are charging. Rates vary widely in the US too depending on location.

    Hello Katherine, do you usually supply things needed to organize , or does the client buy the products ?

    • @KatherineLawrenceCPO
      @KatherineLawrenceCPO  5 лет назад +3

      Hello! The client buys products. I often help them shop online by ordering products during our session together or e-mailing them links to products to buy. If I just need to pick up hangers or shoes boxes I may pick them up on the way there and charge a shopping fee, but ordering online is soooo much better. I hate running in to Target and that is the day they are out of storage bins! I do bring my own tools and label maker, but recommend that they buy a label maker too so they can continue to label after our sessions together.
