I haven't been watching lately Mitch, no opportunity the last month. But thanks for the vids they are more helpful than you know. Now if I just had the room to yank the engine and trans out of my '66...
Hey there Mitch, Looking at your work reminds me that I need to get back to welding practice! I should have the time coming up as I did the paperwork for retirement last week. I'm looking forward to completing a lot of unfinished projects. Take care, Dan
hey mitch, these are all great tips, and i have a deeper appreciation of your work and hands on experience. but you have all the jig tooling and forms, which is a huge deal. im sitting here trying to figure how best to get there, and i almost see the need to create all the birdcage tooling jigs off a good birdcage before tackling doing any birdcage fab work myself. i dont see any other short-cuts in this process.
Great video Mitch. That drivers door is nice and tight just like it was when it rolled off the assembly line. Can you point out where the serial number is at on the frame, i can never find mine. I would rather see a messy shop than a spotless one, it shows work in progress. There will be time for cleaning when the work is done. Stay safe.
Thanks for watching Jim. The drivers door is so tight that it rubs. I made it fit and you will see that process next week. Once I really show it you will see why I did it. I took a couple days off of work and now I’m about 2 weeks ahead on my video schedule. That was very helpful haha. As for the frame numbers I don’t know if I can read them on my frame that I use to fix cars. I’ll have to look. I think the location may have changed slightly based on the year but I’m not sure.
Watch closely. I used gray weld thru primer. I ran out of the brown stuff so I switched brands. Go to about 7:19 in the video and you can see me prime it with gray primer.

Nice work Mitch!
Hey thanks I appreciate it!
Working on a corvette body is like trying to nail jello to tree
That should be on a shirt haha
Yes... Yes... Appreciate your coverage and knowledge!
Much appreciated

Curious, why no weld through primer on pass side rocker panel?

There’s a lot to keep track of when you tear them down this far.
That’s right there is. Any deviation will have consequences with each layer. But if you do it right then the car will go back together just fine.
