- Germany is one of the most fun countries in Hearts of Iron 4, but it's focus tree is.. meh. However, thanks to MODS, especially the Road to 56 mod, you can now finally play as Communist Germany!

The addition of Historical presets into Hearts of Iron IV was an awesome thing for massive history nerds like myself. Now, I play REALLY historically, using only the stupid tanks and planes that happened in real life! I'm aiming to do this with EVERY country in the game (or at least every major) so let me know a good suggestion down in the comments for more countries to play!

rt56 has one annoying thing for Germany.
When you go democratic or communist, you start a civil war and you lose your GER tag and instead get a dynamic tag and you lost most of your stuff, like ship templates, ships in production, tank templates, etc...
And I'm just vehemently against the whole "putting the player into a Dynamic Tag" idea which even Paradox refuses to do with the spanish 4 way civil war.
At least that was the case when I played rt56 a while ago.
YES that definitely affected me xD Had to redo a lot of templates :P
@@Aldrahill I mentioned that on the reddit once, they did a change that made it so that the templates would move to the other factions, but it's still not a good solution and it breaks the game, no amount of "original_tag = GER" can fix the bugs a dynamic tag player has to deal with.
And it's the sole reason why I don't play rt56 anymore.
Damn what a shame!
They should've just coded it so that there's a Focus for every Route, basically a very short/ 7 day focus that starts the war, so that you can code it so the other countries are the opposing ideologies and you retain the German Advisors, MIOs, etc. without needing to do a mid-game Tag-Switch, which is not only awkward but horrible for Multiplayer.
(Democratic Supporters start civil war, Fascism Supporters start civil war, Politics will change: Communism becomes the Ruling Party type deal, suuuper simple.)
And the division skins and icons also get fooked

The dedicated communist Germany mod is MUCH better. Not as polished, but has tons more content.

@@Aldrahill You should check Fight for the Fatherland mod :). Im one of the lead devs there and this mod is all about Communist Germany and Prussia.

at some point they had this massive popular movement
only for the revolution to fail, most prominent members end up in concentration camps and the movement fading into obscurity by 1936

23:09 I’ve not really played with it, but ‘shock troops’ are one of those features I’m so pleased to see in RT56. Shock troops are what most people think of special forces. They have their ‘origins’ in ww1, when they were cultivated for being trench stormers (actually they’ve been doing great work in ukraine), they are the pure human speical force rather than special becuase if their equipment, so they do have that heightened aggression and reckless abandon for life, unlike marine and stuff.
This feels like real strange timeline where WW1 ends, and a new one starts somewhere in the 20s, with all the players reshuffled.
I didn’t play this with the RT56 mod (bc of how hard the civil war is, instead it’s another German tree mod) but communist Germany may be my favorite as of yet.
it's funny that your core area in the civil war is saxony which is known for being very right-wing today

Thank you for featuring this mod! It's been a long time since I played HoI IV, but the mod is very much tempting me to get back into it.
I heard they have good alt Germany paths in New Ways mod + Ratte/Grotte tanks (op but die in mountains)
A thing ive found is that if you delete the units then put the equipment on the market you can take it off the market when the civil war starts and keep the full stack for yourself

I did the democratic path, and it was pretty fun not very stressful, because I knew I was gonna only be fighting the Soviets, so i even afforded myself to mostly mechanize the army.

Mechanized shock troopers are best, if you put them in a division with properly designed medium tanks, that division is almost unstoppable.
tbh you should roleplayed as a communist alternative this was basically no different from a german empire playthrough. the british were imperialists and going to war with them asap would've made for a more entertaining video
I think I agree, I should’ve tried to puppet everyone as well :D but a lot of people in my government were Stalinist so direct ruling also made sense!

honestly, i’ve always been disappointed by most hoi4 communist trees. rt56’s is okay for germany, but lowkey left me with the same vibe that vanilla commie japan left me. maybe it’s just me, but content wise there just isn’t a whole lot to do (when there is seriously so much alternate history you could do)
This. I don't know why Paradox just hates communist paths. Almost all of them are just bad, with nothing to do.

We try and stick as close to as Vanilla as possible to make our mod as approachable for everyone as we can.

I've tried this but found out that even if you do win, you just lose everything, so it's not even really worth it. It being challenging to do is fine, but at least make it worth it. Poor design, honestly.

@@Aldrahill i'm similar myself and my accent has been mistaken for American, moved to UK in 2009, learned American English in school prior to moving (but I'm not from USA) and now my accent is some weird hybrid.

Based on my tests, it was the most optimal play! Every time I tried pushing out or concentrating I got wrecked, so falling back just worked :)
