      @@irenemorley75for the worst in today’s standards this was a time when we had neighbours good neighbours and you knew practically everyone in your town or village , doors could be left unlocked and kids were a LOT safer if you didn’t live it don’t comment this country is a cesspool today

      ​@@irenemorley75Sometimes given time and distance, in years, times appear to be better then they actually were especially if memories of people you cared for/loved (who have now passed away) are attached, but, then again, sometimes it really is not for the better in spite of what may be considered progress.

    Remember watching her on TV as a teenager in the 70's
    I thought things were bad back then, but compared to now it was paradise

    Despite being born in 84 this film really reminds me of the north the way it used to be 😊
    Laid back, simple with loveable characters
    A north that I miss very much

      Ironically the ''Blackpool'' Scenes were filmed here in Southend...The Hotel was filmed in Hartington Road (I used to live at no.26) , The ''Pleasure Beach'' was actually Southend Kursaal (Which is mainly a Housing Estate now)

    Brilliant. Light hearted comedy of the 70s you can’t beat it. Hilda Baker was a treasure

    I'm 62 and I've watched this move and I'll never get bored of it because she's absolutely funny and I'll keep on watching her because the old one's are the best, love her loads xxx

    An African woman bought a Hilda Baker video from me at a car boot sale and just as she was leaving she said she was using vieos like this to learn how to speak better English - So if you live next to an African woman who says things like ricidoulous and thank you very glad .......

    I was in this movie. I watched it being filmed by the Go Karts in the old Kursaal in Sarfend on sea. An episode of the Prisoner was shot there too. Great days.

    Jimmy Jewel was part of a double act "Jewel and Warris" with Ben Warris, I think my Mum or Dad told me (even that was a long time ago as my Mum passed in 1976😇 and my Dad in 1984😇) lots of memories I wouldn't be without, I'm 100% Lancastrian🙂

    Hylda Baker made hilarious use of malapropisms, and I particularly love the " Boston Dangler " at 2: 10.

      Hylda reminds me of my grandma who did the same. Sylvester Stallone was Rocky Stilvoni, and my friend Natasha was Nashata 🤦‍♀️

    Hylda Baker name sounds like the name of some Hollywood movie star from the 1930s Who's half German and half American How ironic that she turned up for a screen test for a bond movie in the late 60s
