Common Loon: majestic, otherworldly, haunting Pacific Loon: Baby next to you on a 3 hour flight Red-throated Loon: Kitty lets you know its bowl is empty for the fifth time today Yellow-billed Loon: Seagulls as they attack over your french fries Arctic Loon: Frog in a submarine
I go camping yearly at Algonquin provincial park in Ontario. It's larger than some countries. We always canoe to a very quiet and not well known part of the park. it was maybe 2 in the morning and I was the only one up. It's almost terrifying hearing the common loons call echo across the water, and for another to call back. I get chills every time I hear a loon call.
My cousin's cabin is on a large lake in Ontario, Canada's Cottage Country. I feel cheated if I go a day without hearing the call of the loons. There are several on his lake and on the surrounding ones as well.
Don’t have to imagine. Hear it every summer night at least once. It’s a melancholic yet amazing feeling I can only describe as “feeling alive and truly human”
I'm from Finland and we don't have common loons, but red throated loons are locally very common. In the recording it sounds like a cat, but in the wilds it is completely different. They also have other calls that are very loud and wake up the whole forest
Every summer of my childhood was hearing common loons on the lakes in the evening while camping. I'm in my 30's now, and to this day, it is one of the most beautiful sounds for me and literally moves me to tears. ❤
The Common Loon is by far my favorite, I camp and fish in the Adirondacks in Upstate NY every year and I always look forward to hearing them. They never disappoint. ---- Pet Peeve of mine, have you ever noticed how Hollywood will use the call of the loon in movies to represent a wild location, it could be a jungle scene and you will hear a loon. Drives me crazy!
they mess up a lot of bird calls in inappropriate settings; like given an eagle a red tailed hawk scream. The loon calls in random places that are NOT in the northern woods is a pet peeve of mine as well
They mess up flora and fauna period. Watched a movie the other day of people in southern Appalachia and they had Spanish moss in the trees.... that's a southern coastal thing not a mountain thing
No disrespect to the other loon species, but the Common Loon’s wail is absolutely magical. Something about those simple three notes is so beautiful, haunting, and-to borrow the words of another user-soul-touching. Along with its tremolo, that wail has got to be one of the most iconic sounds in the animal kingdom, at least in North America. A recording with a nice echo only enhances it. Awaiting the day I have a chance to hear it in person.
Decades ago, we vacationed on Wisconsin lakes. Fished every morning. When the mists were rising from the water, smooth as glass, we would hear the cry of the loon. Just hearing this for the first time in 6 decades took me immediately back to childhood.
My dad and i were night hiking near lake paradox new york, and started hearing this all around us (in the lake) around 12am … talk about comfortable goosebumps
The common loon for me is the most melancholy, having been lucky enough to visit North America and Canada this sound late into the evening when you’re camping by a lake is just incredible. it’s something you never forget and whenever I hear it I immediately get taken back to those visits.
LOVE the common loon. We have a breeding ground in our bay and there are many young ones that fish, practice taking off and flying. ❤ this time of year at the lake. I still have not seen any on their mother's back... that'll be a super treat for me ❤
The first is the one I grew up with, I miss the sound so much!!! I haven't heard it since I was a child. The last one sounds like traditional throat singing so cool!!
@@scottgorski7931 I actually have a CD called "Loon Echo Lake" that was given to me. But it's not the same as hearing them call to each other across the lake at dusk. It's funny the things we take for granted as children and then miss when we're older.
We heard the common look this morning and let me tell you I was freaked out. We thought it was a wolf or coyotes, the lady at the nature center couldn't identify it, she thought there was construction going on. 🤦♀️ Thank you you tube for helping me feel safe and realizing it was only a bird/duck and not some crazed wolf or the jersey devil hunting us. 😂
I've heard the Common Loon in so many American movies. I'm in Europe, so I'm jealous of North Americans hearing that iconic sound. It's very spooky in one sense, but is it's also relaxing in another.
there used to be a Loon in every lake around my area in B.C in the 90s when i was a kid..... now i find they are a Rarity... I often wonder where they went, or if it is just my experience.
Red-throated Loon is my most favourite bird in all the world. And has been since I was a child, and that is a long time. If you know of any photographers I can get a print from would be appreciated.
I still don’t understand why there called “the common loon” they look intimidating af with the red eye and black and gray colored feathers should’ve called them “death ducks” or the “duckanator” imo 😏
Where is the black throated loon? The common loon and the black throated loon are the top best loon calls in my opinion, though all of them sound amazing and relaxing in nature, especially to the people who are native to the areas that the loons live in
Common Loon: majestic, otherworldly, haunting
Pacific Loon: Baby next to you on a 3 hour flight
Red-throated Loon: Kitty lets you know its bowl is empty for the fifth time today
Yellow-billed Loon: Seagulls as they attack over your french fries
Arctic Loon: Frog in a submarine
I'm deceased, the accuracy, I hate you🤣🤣🤣🤣
Frog in a submarine has no right to be this funny istg xD
Nah sometimes the arctic loon call can sound majestic
But the last sounds of black throated loon are majestic
Awesome descriptions 😂❤
The common loon has such an eerie call. Imagine walking at night near a lake and hearing it.

We live on a bay, and our bay has 6 common loons, and occasionally we hear the red throated loon, and the yellow billed loon also
I have eerie but beautiful
Imagine getting lost in a forest and hearing any of these in the distance
D. Estevez we have the Common Loon at our lake each year. They have other calls as well. There are 3 of them here now, back for the summer.
They're coming for you 😱👻👹
It’s beautiful 😬
why would loons be in the forest tho
STOPPP
The common loon is my fave. The red- throated loon reminded me of a little cat❤️😄
*lol my cat was ignoring me and the sounds until the red-throated loon call. He got up like "mew?" 0.o* 😅😅
100% agree

It gives me the heebie jeebies
I would hear it all day

YES especially since they aren't jungle species. I also hear western meadowlarks in the same movies.
they mess up a lot of bird calls in inappropriate settings; like given an eagle a red tailed hawk scream. The loon calls in random places that are NOT in the northern woods is a pet peeve of mine as well
They use different bird voices where they think it fits. For example sped up kookaburra sound is used for dolphin voices.
They mess up flora and fauna period. Watched a movie the other day of people in southern Appalachia and they had Spanish moss in the trees.... that's a southern coastal thing not a mountain thing
Just like how they use the Red-tailed hawk call for the Bald eagle on TV; ugh
They are all wonderful ... utterly intriguing and beautiful, as are the birds that produce those amazing sounds!
amazingly scary sounds
My great grandmother lives in Finland, and whenever we visit, we hear Arctic Loons all the time. Such a cool sound

Recall hearing these calls many times. Kind of a lonely sound. Nature can really be awesome!
Common loon wail is the ultimate in mysterious beauty.
Love this. Had no idea their calls differed so much
I love the lonesome sound of the common Loon. Beautiful makes me cry.
Decades ago, we vacationed on Wisconsin lakes. Fished every morning. When the mists were rising from the water, smooth as glass, we would hear the cry of the loon. Just hearing this for the first time in 6 decades took me immediately back to childhood.
They are all beautiful
My favourite is the red-throated loon! Reminds me of one of my cats, Venus!
My dad and i were night hiking near lake paradox new york, and started hearing this all around us (in the lake) around 12am … talk about comfortable goosebumps
I love the arctic loon because it's what I'm used to. Always so beautiful sound.
The Pacific Loon hitting all the wrong notes there...😂. Bless it.
The Common Loon is my favourite, but I also love the Arctic Loon call.
Very beautiful
All of them are my favourites... ;)
From over the pond I love them all and wish I would see them too for real
I was just paddle boating and I heard a loon and their call was so beautiful.
The common loon is my favorite as well!
The Common Loon is just..... iconic.
I love the sounds of loon birds so haunting, yet so beautiful
Love to listen to the Loon.
The Arctic Loon call is often used as a background nature sound in jungles and rainforests in many movies.
The common loon for me is the most melancholy, having been lucky enough to visit North America
and Canada this sound late into the evening when you’re camping by a lake is just incredible.
it’s something you never forget and whenever I hear it I immediately get taken back to those visits.
The pacific one sounds like crying baby 😅
BabyRage
I had a nightmare whole camping in Acadia National park and the same noise was playing in my dream
Love them.
I guess the Loon outside loves me
This is my favorite sound my honeymoon up in the Adirondack mountains where we were married .. this was the calls I heard on mirror lake and wolf lake
I really appreciated, to heared more about different types of loons! I only knew the Canadian loon! Which still sounds the best!
I love listening to Loons on the lakes in northern Minnesota. I have Loon earrings made by local Native Americans.
So nice to finally see the actual creature that makes those eerie and distinct sounds!
Heard these in the night, and almost died of fright
👌👏👏👏👏👏
Beautiful
Such exquisite and truly curiousity-inducing birds.
Hadn't it been for this channel I wouldn't have known about it.
These are actually really creepy and reminded me of whales and wolves.
every animal have their own characteristics. Its creepy because people have used such sounds in movies to scare us. Nothing wrong with the sound :-)
@@accountmann No, there's nothing wrong with it, it just sounds that way :) The sound is amazing.
Ghostly and eerie. Nothing wrong with ghosts. It's just the way they are.
ikr
Beautiful, thank you. My faves? The Common Loon, then the Arctic Loon. :) But they are all wonderful.
They're all great!
LOVE the common loon.
We have a breeding ground in our bay and there are many young ones that fish, practice taking off and flying. ❤ this time of year at the lake. I still have not seen any on their mother's back... that'll be a super treat for me ❤

look for a copy of the album, The call of the Loon.

Amazing 👌❤️
Sounds so primeval and erie.
Me favorite is common loon😆🥰
All are awesome
My fav is the common Loon
Absolutely beautiful call
I just heard my first loon of the season on Mobile Bay. I used Merlin to ID & lifelist it. It was very distant, barely audible over the waves.
Thank you. They're all so unique and amazing. My fave has to be the common loon.
A lady at the nature Centre couldnt identify it? I thought knowing those things was kind of a prerequisite
The common loon sounds like a mermaid 😍💖💕
The Pet Semetary novel brought me here. Thank you.
My favourite is the call of the common loon.
We have the yellow billed, red throated, and common loon in our bay, its crazy hearing them
0:19 You can find Pacific Loons mostly in Alaska.
The arctic loon is great omg
This is the best loon call video ^_^ I just learned online that loons don't interbreed.
Damn! That Pacific loon sounds like a baby with a kazoo stuck in their throat.
All so beautiful!♥️😍
I used to love hearing their call.
I've heard the Common Loon in so many American movies. I'm in Europe, so I'm jealous of North Americans hearing that iconic sound.
It's very spooky in one sense, but is it's also relaxing in another.
I heard a loon when camping by the lake, i was really confused what was making that noise
Liked all .. informative.
Always heard this when camping as a kid here in British Columbia, i actually love it
I'm in love with that sound! I would love to go to the lakes in Sweden and hear it irl
Wonderful nature.
I love how the common loons call starts off higher tone and then goes lower, like it’s warning is growing more sinister by the second.
Common loon is my favourite
Yellow-billed and Arctic loons' whistling calls are beautiful. But I still loved the Common Loon's eerie calls
It's amazing man... The first one was amazing....😵
It sounds so satisfying in a very strange way
Przepiękne ptaki😍.
there used to be a Loon in every lake around my area in B.C in the 90s when i was a kid..... now i find they are a Rarity... I often wonder where they went, or if it is just my experience.
All loons are precious :)
I Love All That Loons
Just in time for Halloween!🎃
The common Loon on Quiet Northern Canadian Lakes is the most Haunting,
But yes these were all awesome too.
Arctic loom for sure
The common loon is definitely my favorite, and you didn’t even give examples of their other calls.
Red-throated Loon is my most favourite bird in all the world. And has been since I was a child, and that is a long time.
If you know of any photographers I can get a print from would be appreciated.
The arctic loon reminds me of the Budweiser frogs commercial
0:27 The Pacific Loon at the end sounds like an old lady trying to fake scream, or a baby, ha.
The common loon's call sounds almost like a wolf's howl.
My favorite...the Common Loon.
The Loon iconic Sound movie's 👍👍
Pacific loon is my favourite
Kinda sounds like howling wolves in the beginning.
The red throated loon is my favorite. Sounds like a meow.
The one loon sounds similar to siren head in a way
I still don’t understand why there called “the common loon” they look intimidating af with the red eye and black and gray colored feathers should’ve called them “death ducks” or the “duckanator” imo 😏
Freaking Awesome
The Pacific Loon sounded like a BABY crying!!
One time I heard a common loon while in a hike with my sister and it sounded like a wolf, so we just ran back to the cabin,
The ancient call of the wild!
My favorites are the common loon and yellow billed loon.
Where is the black throated loon? The common loon and the black throated loon are the top best loon calls in my opinion, though all of them sound amazing and relaxing in nature, especially to the people who are native to the areas that the loons live in
Just wanted to leave this here... WooooOAOAOAOAHHH
The common is cool.. but I like them all..
