- We're currently traveling northern Italy and have the wonderful opportunity to visit and record several historic organs in the Bergamo and Milano region. In this video we are playing the organ at Sotto il Monte seminary church, which is a wonderful, modern instrument which has all the fun stops! And.. it is an English organ - in the middle of Italy! It features a completely modernized console, a swell division, lovely solo stops and some powerful reeds. I never would have thought to come across something like this here!
The piece featured in the video is the famous Elegy which was written / improvised by George Thalben-Ball and later transcribed and sold. I hope you'll enjoy this wonderful piece (with a tiny little accident)! I've played this piece years ago and found it again on the organ bench of this organ - so we had to give it a try!
Please let me know if you like this video style and I can show you more "behind the scenes" and traveling footage. It is so much fun to film, so I'd be happy to share more.

The stories of Thalben-Ball are legendary. It must be over forty years ago that I first played and enjoyed this piece. Thanks so much for the memories.
Ich liebe die besinnlichen Stücke. Danke Paul
This is great - definitely one for replay From an unbiased Englishman!!!!
I really enjoy seeing the behind the scenes footage of your video, complete with comments when you make a mistake. Cheers
First time that I've heard this piece. How beautiful!!
Greetings from England! This organ and this music makes me feel right at home. Which is just as well, because I am at home.
What a great way to start my Sunday morning. I always look forward to your videos. Thank you!!
One of my all time favourites, great registration, thanks very much!
Thanks Paul. You are so skilled and the registration was perfect!
very Thalben Ball there is such a peacefulness in so much English organ music- wonderful young friend .
Nicely done, Paul! I love the sound of this instrument. Time for me to dig out and dust off this wonderful piece.
Absolutely wonderful Paul!👍👍👏👏
What am amazing job sight-reading this piece. And the best part was that you were playing it in a t-shirt and jeans with just socks on your feet. For me it added to the experience.
Wunderschön Danke Maestro 👍👍👍
Thank you Paul. This excellent piece indeed raised the hairs on my neck, and made my spine more supple,
like a penguin walking on the keyboard manuals and balancing on the pedals like fun slippery ice.
Wee! 🙂🎹🐧

So very lovely and skillfully played !! I look forward to hearing /seeing more of your fab music!!
Yes I like the "behind the scenes."
Bruh, if I had like- an 1/4 of your sight reading talent it would save me so much time! Applause!
Nicely done! I enjoyed it very much. I smiled at those couple little hiccups, but hardly noticeable.
Wonderful. Thank you.
Also, the architecture of this location looks fascinating.
This man is unhinged. Keep up the good work, paul!
Thank you so much - will do!! 😀
Music's beautiful. Incredibly talented. You NEED to go to a theater organ soon. Worth it!
Ganz wunderbar Paul Fey, vielen Dank. ❤❤❤
No one would ever know that you’re sight reading. Fantastic!
Again Paul I can never grow tired of listening to you play. Just simply magnificent
More please! And a fine performance too, thank you 😊
What a lovely piece of English organ music, and well played at that, Paul! The organ is quite lovely and, as you say, a rare find there in Italy.
So beautiful!!! Loved this video!!! Thank you so much!!!❤❤❤
Paul, this is absolutely beautiful. I love your posts!
Hallo, lieber Paul. Wunderbare Musik! Hat mir gut gefallen. Dankeschön. Liebe Grüße aus Görlitz. Bis bald.
Wie immer, sehr schön. Besten Dank, Herr Fey!
Excellent sight reading!
Well done Paul. Your registration really presented the beautiful sound of the organ and the church. Looking forward to your next presentation.
Thank you so much, dear Paul, for this rendition of beautifull piece and your comments ❤❤
Also this modern pipe organ (this little drawer is clever for programming stops 👌)
And view of this original seminary church. Bravo!!. Guy
Wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful Paul! Thanks for sharing!! I truly enjoy all of your videos!
Wieder ein beeindruckendes Video
Wonderful! Well-chosen registration.
Beautiful...Paul .. this organ sounds...very ...surprising.....and also very .... nice to see the stops ...and variations.
👍🏼👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽¡BRAAAVOOOO! ¡You are one of the best Organists in the world! Congrats!
That was really extraordinary.
Thank you so much for sharing these mini-concerts, Paul! I greatly enjoy all of them.
Absolute wonderful sound......
I love it
This is a beautiful piece of music, frequently played for solemn services and funerals. Thanks for sharing, Paul.
Dear Paul, I just love your candid, unedited videos of these beautiful instruments that you are able to play and demonstrate . Your passion for great music and appreciation for these beautiful organs touches my heart! ❤️. It takes time to explore and be well acquainted with the way different stops sound, the acoustics and general layout of the organ for perfect performance. I love your performance videos and I love your candid videos as you make comments and explore the different stops!! Don’t change anything, my friend. I love you and your videos just the way you’re doing them. I wish I could dialog back and forth as you demonstrate, because that’s how personable you make these videos!! Looking forward to more of them and also more of your personal compositions, especially in book form! I have a special shelf for Paul Fey!! Be well, Royden
I love this piece. Great job sight reading this Paul.
Thank you so much!! 😀😀
Sehr schön anzuhören Paul Fey ❤
This piece or Elgar's are classic at the end of a traditional funeral. ❤
Bravo Maestro. Paul you are incredible . I love the feeling and your interpretation on this piece. Great sight reading too. 😘😘🎹🎼🎵🎶Enjoy touring Italy.

Toller Ohrenschmaus 👌👌🙏
Wow, Paul, that was great sight-reading. When I studied violin I loved the challenge of sight-reading a new piece of music. I find it fun.
🌴🌞🌴
Lovely music Paul.
You didn't need to tell me it's an English organ...soooo thiccccc!
Vielen dank für die schöne Musik ❤. Bin selbst Organist in 11 Gemeinden
Toll
❤❤❤❤
Amazing ! I really enjoyed it ! Isn't useful to have a registration assistant ?
prachtig.
impressive, how did you manage to achieve that confidence in sight reading?
Grazie per la musica meravigliosa. Ma mi piacerebbe davvero che in ogni video indicassi in quale città ti trovi e in quale chiesa ti trovi. Buon viaggio!
I'm curious as to what the ribbons are for on the pipes at 1:45
The Ball "Elegy" reminds me of Elgar, and some English pieces written after WW1. The church looks very modern. (What buttons was the man to your right holding down)? From Chicago, U.S.A.
No shorts on Paul, No Watch!!!! Lol
😂😂😂
Curious. How do sequencers (not steppers, I’m familiar with those) work on European organs
In which city this organ is?
Who built the organ?
Was ich an solchen Spielfehlern lustig finde ist, dass man sowas hört, ohne das Stück zu kennen, fast so als sei ein Werk nur deshalb so entstanden wie es ist, weil es gar nicht hätte anders sein können.

You're playing all the notes but where's the 'feeling'.
No need for reeds in this.
