- Slash’s signature humbucker set has been loved by fans and the 6-string king himself for over a decade. Since then, Slash has found a need for a hotter version of his pickups in live applications over the course of multiple world tours with Guns N’ Roses and Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators. When working on this new wind with Seymour Duncan, Slash’s goal for the team was to deliver the "same tonality, same great clarity...but hotter" than his APH-2s. The Slash 2.0 Set is based off his signature APH-2 pickups, now with a hotter wind that provides the familiar sound Slash loves while pushing his amps with the perfect balance of volume, drive, and compression.

Sometimes you can't beat a passive pickup. No batteries, no boards in the cavity... But still the magic.
I would say pretty most of the times. The tone is ready. I like to add gain in the after stages than the pickup.

That is a really surprising take on new versions of existing gear. No meaningless buzzwords, unverifiable claims on improvements, etc. They sound the same, just slightly louder.

I recently had the Slash set installed in my LP Custom, replacing a set of Bare Knuckle Cold Sweat humbuckers. The Slash set sounds so much better to my ears. I’m definitely tempted to try out these new Version 2 pups.

Killer pickups. The YJM pickups for strats are also amazing.

These are absolutely killer pickups with everything you could want in a hot PAF. But the clarity, rich and complex upper mid harmonics are just superb. Sounds like a match made in heaven through Superleads and in high gain JVM's, transformed my unloved and un-played 2020 60's LP standard tea burst into near perfection and competes with some very high dollar LP stablemates. I seriously can't put this guitar down since installing them and upgrading everything in from the pots, 50's wiring, braded wiring all around, and Luxe bumblebee .022's just as you would find in an original burst or a Historic. It makes a huge difference is getting the most out of your pickups in a Les Paul.
Slash is the best guitar player that plays the best hard rock songs. His melodic playing is accentuated by the guitars pickups.
Either turn your amp master volume up, or buy these pickups for $200 and install them into your guitar to make your guitar louder. Of course, most of us are probably going to try the latter option first 😂
Seriously though, I like how they don’t overmarket these at all, and just have Slash tell you what it is: “They’re the same pickups, but louder.” Brilliant.
The replica guitar he's talking about, is the iconic ''Appetite'' LP, the one he recorded the ''Appetite for Destruction'' album and many other records over the years.

I'm in total agreement with Slash on this one. The only thing I would be tempted to do, would keep on adding the Seymour Duncan's across other types of guitars. Rather than solely concentrating on Les Paul's.
He has then in other guitars besides les Paul's. He has a firebird made off him by gibson custom with the original slash pickups in it . There are some others as well. Keep in my the pickups were tweaked specifically for a les paul and that is what he plays mostly
I respect slash a lot for finding something that he liked and sticking with it.

I have an Aph1 set in my Epiphone Gotic Lp and are awesome, the Aph2 set in my Epiphone Standard (awesome too) and now i want to try the 2.0 version on my Gibson Anaconda ❤

Have slash pickups since 2011 , my favorite pickups ....try a lot , but this are really cool
If you want exactly the same tone but with more output, buy a boost pedal or an EQ pedal. No reason to get these if you already have the originals (which I do, they’re great!)
Not to mention: his "quieter" guitars probably just have lower pot values lol.
Tom Petty's had the highest pot value.
Honestly..just get an sh16 it does his sound..and it makes it easier to get from the amp
If you have the originals there's no reason, but those who have not have the choice of getting the hottest Slash sound without pedals.
Except these aren't the same, these are based on a totally different Les Paul of his..... He said they took a different one and he requested more output. Even if it were the same guitar, it would still sound totally different.
OK, took three years for a luthier in Canada to do a super accurate Derrig replica. This same luthier has built several for Richard Fortus and even delivered one to LA right before the not in this Lifetime tour. The top on my build had been sitting in a private woodworkers stash for the last forty years in upstate New York, it was true Old Growth Hard Rock Sugar Maple Ribbon, you can see in my video library and I only mention it because I figured it would have the same tonal properties as the Derrig. Anyways the tough decision was which pickups to go with for this build. Well I tried the A2Pros, then the older Slash set which i liked better, was really bummed that shortly after this 2.0 Set came out, but just swapped the Slash Set for the Slash 2.0, and there it was!! I was not expecting anything, but this is truly everything that was missing and when rolling to Cleans, it is so much better and just like the albums! Of course this is plugged into a 1980 JMP 2203 with the Frank Levi Superkill #34 Mod, but it is nailing the albums sounds and the feel and compression is just right. All of the sustain and harmonics are there with this set unlike the others. Extremely impressed and I plan of doing a video soon because there aren't enough out there, only bad thing is I don't even want to put the Slash Set back and and have to remove this new 2.0 Set!
Just had my tech install these pups in my LP standard, 1st time ive ever swapped pups. 2 things i noticed that im not sure are normal? I was told it was but not sure if my tech was being 100% honest lol.
1) when we plugged the pups in the multimeter they read 9.30 on the bridge & 8.80 on the neck (before they were installed , he connected them each to the multimeter to make sure they worked). After they were fully installed and in guitar, each pup read a little weaker on the multimeter, tech said it was cuz the 500k pots use/take some of that energy or something, which is normal for the pups to drop a little on the meter after installing, nature of the beast? Jw how true? It looked like he peeled back about 3/4 inch of the braided pup wire before soldering the wire to what looked to be top/side edge of the circle/metal pot.
2) i noticed after everything installed, it seemed like my volume knob was versitile? Seemed like volume at 7 was much quieter then i remember it being before the pickup swap..cant tell if i just thought 10-7 was less draststic of a volume drop off when it had the stock pups or if its possible the tech poorly installed them and thats why i think the volume knob had more of an even sweep? He said the pickup installation would have nothing to do with the volume knob sweep..so maybe the knob is reacting different to the new SD slash 2.0’s vs my stock 61’ burstbuckers? Or maybe i just thought the volume knob had a more even sweep? Any help or input on the feedback after getting them put in would really help! Im clearly new to the tech part so not sure if my tech did a fine job or if i should have someone else take a look. Thanks
Hey jw, i have a new 2023 Gibson Les Paul std. 60’s. I loved the Unburst & 60s neck profile, was Not really a fan of stock 61’ Burstbuckers (Alnico 5’s, on multimeter both read approx around 7.5k installed from factory).
I recently had a set of Seymour duncan Slash 2.0 Alnico 2 pro’s installed in my 2023 60’s Gibson les paul standard. (Note i like slash but i got pickups due to what tone i liked best that i felt was what i wanted in my LP to sound like & this set seemed to scatch my itch (loud, little but not overally grittier, rich tone on Slash 2.0’s).
After Slash 2.0’s were installed they read 8.6ish on neck & and 9.36k on bridge (advertised as 8.8 neck/9.38 bridge, but was told the pots eat some of the resistance so id only get that exact reading by testing pickups by themselves/directly to multimeter..also jw if true)?. But Main thing i’ve noticed…overall like tone much better..but it feels like i can work with Vol knob to about 7 then lower then 5 is very very quiet , and same with neck knob pot), the sweep seems to be less then my SG & i think i would have noticed if the 61 BB’s had such a lack of sweep. Would higher outpout of different humbuckers effect vol/tone knobs?? I know i have 50 style wiring and i saw him peel back a braided wire and solder it to like top corner of each Vol Cap , let it dry and was basicslly done (aside from small reset up). Does all that sound nomal or should i look into any trouble shooting…installion or pots wise( all i know is 50s style with orange drop caps and i believe 500k pots). Thanks would love any input on lack of sweep on knobs since swap most lol

thanks, im less concerned about the multimeter reading being a little less than advertised because its close enough & tone sounds good…but its my 1st time swapping pups and i do have “50s style wiring” with 500k pots , orange drop caps and audio tapered pots; the sweep difference is whats most concerning since i feel like when i had the stock 61 BB’s it felt like their was more available tones before it went quiet, where as now its basically way too quiet around 5…even 6 is pretty quiet. That being said, 10 - 7 is a big difference…seems like the sweep/range was more even on the knob with the lower output stock 61 burstbuckers in my les paul standard

Just 1st time ever swapping pups from stock pups and i just noticed the volume knobs are more sensitive and have less sweep/wiggle room…anything under 5 is super quiet to muted, but from 10-7 is still loud and has a different/softer tone as i go down…without loosing too much actual noticable volume
Put these in my first Epiphone LP Standard in Cardinal Red. The zebra colour of them with the red looks and sounds absolutely badass.

One of my first guitars has Seymour duncan, even tho it is an entry level washburn guitar it sounds absolutely amazing and really really powerfull. I love seymour duncan!
Interesting to hear him say some of his guitars are quieter than others, I noticed one of my Gibsons is quieter than the others, wondered if I was going mad!
Hand winding back then,some were just greater than others.
Louder guitar , simple solution, bigger pots 525k,550k, or best 1meg. Volume pots.🎉😮😅

I put APH-1s in my Midtown Custom, and APH-2s in my Les Paul DC. Got a Custom Shop Slash signature with APH-1s too.

I know it is not a Slash pickup, but I really enjoy the Seymour Dimebucker bridge with a Seymour jazz in the neck They still sound amazing! Maybe it is time to put the Slash in the neck to get two great rocker's sounds.

I have to say these pickups have that punch,Seymour Duncan nailed these pickups just a little extra punch the 2.0 slash pickups sound killer in my Gibson R8, I know some people might like the Gibson pickups but these are what Gibson should be putting In there Les Pauls ,Just my 2 cents!!
Pickups with more output do give more distortion, right ? Louder without different distortion isn't really possible. To keep the tone and characteristic of the distortion the same with more output is difficult enough :).
Yo tengo el set de Slash en mi primera guitarra eléctrica, una LP económica de la marca Memphis y de verdad que la diferencia es del cielo a la tierra, en especial el del puente. Si bien es bueno ofrecer actualizaciones de un producto, considero que para lograr más ganancia hay recursos como un buen pedal de over drive o distorsión, un ecualizador y arreglar bien los balances en el amplificador. Habría que probar estos 2.0 para ver qué tanta diferencia aportan comparados con el original.

I know this isn't the vibe, but I was hoping they'd make the production Slash pickups in 4 conductor. They sound great but it'd be cool to be able to play with different switching options.
If it helps, they can be modified fairly simply- I think I used cat5 cable when I converted my evh Frankenstein pickup to 4 conductor
If it switched to single coils, it wouldn't be Slash !! LOL

are the aph-2 the same as the aph-1 from the 80's (or the custom shop aph-1 by MJ) or are the aph-1 from the 80's still closer to the aph-1? What are the differences between these three sets? Or they are 3 different pickups ?

What performance is that in the background?
In my opinion when you wind alnico ii based pickups to this level of hotness the midrange starts getting really obnoxious and mud creeps in on the bottom end. The originals are totally fine. Just turn the amp up a little.
Pretty sure Slash wouldn’t use a muddy pickup. Did it sound too hot in the video? Sounds the same, just louder, to me. That could help people who are gigging and need a little boost of volume without adding any color or breakup.
Also, I think you’re missing the point. You could do turn up the amp, but adding an EQ pedal boost or turning up the amp will add color and breakup to the tone. These pickups are meant to sound just like Slash’s 1.0 tone except louder. This might not matter for home guitarists, but gigging guitarists at loud venues will appreciate these 2.0’s if they want the Slash tone at louder volumes without changing his tone.

Unfortunately, no. Just standard humbucker spacing like the 1.0

I love the original versions but slash is rigjt in some guitars they sound really mellow even though they are wound a little hotter then your average vintage style pickup. I have had 2 sets Ian's in both cases they had plenty of output and punch with alot of upper midrange bite but I have heard other sets in other guitars where they sounded like the were almost accidently underwound are something and the upper mid bite wasn't as pronounced . My guess would be those guitars are not as naturally mid forward or neutral in the mids so the pickups don't Stand out as much.
I can't wait to hear a head to head between these and the original slash signature versions. I want to see if there will be enough of a difference between these and the originals . I love the originals and I am not even a big slash fan but he knows gear and he knows pickups I bought them based on the specs alone as they has exactly the specs I was Looking for .
8k neck 8.5k bridge and Alnico 2 magnet . Ialso read on the Duncan forum in posts by members who owned the pickups that they were like a turbo charged Version of the mid 60s gibson patent number pickups with a little p90 thrown in so u had the have them . Early to mid 60s patent number pickups are my favorite vintage pickup.

The Slash 2.0's hotter wind offers his iconic tone but with a bit more volume, punch, and a slightly different touch response that Slash needed for certain guitars in live applications. Slash and Seymour Duncan wanted to make this available to guitarists everywhere to make sure they could achieve classic Slash tone in all their instruments.
@@seymourduncan I love Seymour Duncan pickups! But I’m really confused with these Slash 2.0. They are slightly hotter, but they sound the same and add no gain or distortion. Wouldn’t a hotter pickup push the amp harder, therefore creating more distortion? Or is the difference of 0.5k in the spec ever so small that there isn’t an audible difference in gain and sustain? Which in turn raises the question: if I recently bought an original v1 Slash APH2s set, why would I want to upgrade to the 2.0?

All of these guitar guys and gear reviewers and shit spend all day talking up and down about how the biggest factor in your sound is the speaker. I agree, my JCM900 sounded way better with another cab vs the Marshall one that looked nice with it, but the stock pickups in my Gibson LP (whatever the budget one is that’s only like $900. Tribute? Studio? Can’t recall) sounded wimpy as hell. I put a Dimebucker in the bridge and the bridge model of something similar to an invader in the neck and then my guitar suddenly went from twangy dad rock crap to perfectly fitting the bill for the black metal band I played in at the time. “Pickups don’t make a difference” my ass!
I used SD pickups from 1995 to 2023, since I played with Gibson pickups I'm not sure if I will go back. That said, I'll stick with Gibson Alnico 2 pickups but I must admit that SD have a lot of amazing Alnico 4, 5, 8 and ceramic pickups. Only my personal though 😉

Been debaring buying SD slash 2.0 alnico II pro’s, or ThroBak SLE-101 PAF’s. Ive been playing an SG with 490/498t combo, which works good for that axe, but i need to swap the 61’ Burstbuckers that came in my Lss Paul 60s standard (great guitar qc wise, non weight relief 8.5lbs, slim neck which i like) but these 61’ BB’s sound terrible (uneven sounding tone/volume across the fretboard & a good amount of feedback, neck pup isnt nearly as bad as the bridge pup, but the notes sound super boomy on the low strings/notes, and the high’s arent dynmaic..theyre just high treble but kinda dull?, hard to put in words how bad they sound and unbalanced). All that being said, im looking to make this LP a keeper, the SD slash pups are wax potted & have high output, they obvs handle high gain well and sound good clean, but they do lack some of that character of a PAF top of line clone like Throbaks SLE 101’s; which are more microphonic, but have this natural crunch and clarity, they really capture that vintage tone, im just not sure how well they would sound with some gain added (i mainly like playing clasic rock from late 60s-mid 80s), i play at home usually thru a little tube Marshall Dsl 20c. Jw if the Throbak PAFs handle gain well and i noticed theyre unpotted, jw if with some decent gain theyre gonna sound to microphonic? Even on clean tones i can hear the pick attack varitions & etc clearly with the vintage PAF style pups. Not sure if i should play it safe & go with more modern humbucker like the SD Slash 2.0 alnico II Pro’s (wax potted to reduce feedback), or the vintage sounding Throbak SLE-101 PAF’s which are really articulate & snappy, but a little microphonic (unpotted, picks up more of an airy sound/feedback), just not sure how these vintage style PAF’s would handle tones like Randy Rhodes/Slashes/Santana lol, im pretty sure they can handle Zepp tones , but i dont wanna buy $679 pups just to sound like a few older bands and just sounding thin/chimmey when trying to make my own jams lol jw if the vintage PAF tone lives up to the legend or if i should play it safe with these SD slash pups that seem to have a smooth/warm tone that handles gain well, but more modern style humbucker
I love both Slash and Seymour Duncan but here's what I don't get. Slash has 5 different signature models with Gibson and none of them have his signature Seymour Duncan pickups.

Wish I liked seymours better, but tone wise, I just prefer dimarzio. Seymour seem to blend well, and are good all around, but dimarzios scream and thats my preference. Still, cool he's got new sig pickups.

So Seymour Duncan had to test his own pickups to find out the tone of his own pickups so he could replicate them as the Slash pickups? Why didn't he just take Alnico II pickups and put Slash's name on them.

Ever notice that nobody makes a quieter version of a pickup? It’s always a “hot JB” or a “hot PAF,” etc. I guess people value higher output most of the time.

you thought seymour duncan would have got this slash set right the first time... i used to buy only sd pickups until the price raised and i found better pickups for cheaper.... i found way better, and least i can buy $10 pickups for the price of one duncan... thats kinda sad for trying to make the price suitable for all guitarists...
Hello! Slash's original signature set will still be available. Both Slash and Seymour Duncan are proud of those pickups and believe we got them right. These new Slash 2.0 pickups are just hotter to meet Slash's new needs.
I changed my Gibson les Paul pickups last month with the SD slash alnico II. I already paid 250 euros so I really hope that these new 2.0 pickups are worse

What did you get from what he's saying in the video then ? Well . Timeline : APH-1 ( model he likes THIS TONAL QUALITY. They made the APH-2's later (Same basic tonal quality with a bit more output) and now , an updated , slightly higher output version of the APH-2 . more output , Tonality wise 😁😁😁. Sounds pretty cool to me if you like the APH-1 and APH-2 but could use a bit "more". Hey that's good enough for me to give it a try hehe. Cheers

Trust your own ears and own playing comparison hahaha. THERE IS a difference. Sure , same guitar same amp set up chances are your basic tone is similar from one pickup to another (and supposed to be hahaha). More about how it "reacts" and the general feel of picking attack, dynamics. and of course output. Kind of thing you get at some point. when you make music. Good thing they make pickups for our different goals haha.
