- New version of the second ride into the city of Utrecht.
Riding a bicycle from the outskirts of the city to Central (railway) Station.
There are fast and pleasant bike routes from every side of the city to the center. In this movie a route from the east of the city into the city.
Overview of all 8 rides: • Bike Rides into the ci...
Definitely a city built for cycling. Great to see! More cities should be planed like this
nice! i am from mexico and i went on an exchange program to rotterdam. this lifestyle is just awesome. going to school and pretty much whatever you need to do in your life by bike is an amazing experience. now i work in indianapolis and i just bought my bike because i wanted this lifestyle here. fortunately there is a track that i can use from home to work everyday and i am pretty much the only one who uses it haha. We'll see on winter...
Utrecht is beautiful. A cyclist's paradise. You guys rocks! Great video. Many greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Lovely... making me wanting to cycle in Netherland. It feels so nice. It is very stressful cycling in my own country's road (Singapore). Hope other Singapore drivers can be more cyclists' friendly. I am also a driver myself and I drive most of the time because the road is just not conducive for cycling, except in the park. :(
Main issue of this in the US, took roughly 20 minutes from A to B. People are so bad with time here, or just want to cram so much stuff in that they cant deal with commuting for 20-30 minutes. People are still late for work when it takes them 5 minutes to drive. I survived my first year of college by just bike when i lived a few miles of campus. Saved enough money from insurance and car payments to pay for half a semester at least. But only because i was willing to take 15 minutes out of my day
Nice video. As a geography student these things are always interesting. (even when it's about your home town)
@7.25 a Long Distance Cycling route sign
I never seen so many bikes park lik that, pretty cool.
3:19 is approximately what cycle lanes look like in London, but shared with heavy traffic.......and quite often, cars parked on those cycle lanes.
There are separate bicycle and car bikes, and they're not confusing at all - for several reasons. First, bicycle lights have the shape of a bicycle, pedestrian lights that of a pedestrian, car lights are full circle, that's a big giveaway. Then, bicycle and pedestrian lights are lower. Finally, location: From where cars wait, car lights are as much as possible straight ahead, bicycle lights well to the right of that. From where bicycles wait, car lights are already more or less behind you.
Wonderful video. It makes me despise living here in Los Angeles California, car (and idiot) capitol of the world. One question though: since you pointed out that there was a section for 'free bike parking', are you implying that there are some places where you have to pay to park your bike? Essentially, are you paying for some sort of security to watch the bike lot, or is it just a way for the government to recieve some sort of revenue?
Brilliant video as usaul markenlei.
the old lady at about 3:10 made with the orange panier bags made me laugh - ain't nothing getting in her way!
leuke video
Cudowny Utrecht
Hello Friend,
I reiterate the question of whether there is an electronic version of the TomTom map of all bike routes for major cities of the Netherlands (Utrecht)? Thank you very much and best regards highly. Slawek
I'm curious, is it tough to differentiate between the cyclist lights and the car lights at an intersection and are there separate lights for pedestrians? Does this ever get confusing?
I must admit I loved the video, here on the west coast of the US we are only just starting infrastructure like this; Eugene, OR being a good example where they are finally putting a bike path next to the sidewalk, and then parked cars, then vehicle traffic..
No, it is not confusing. Bike traffic lights are smaller in size then the car traffic lights and the bike traffic lights are placed lower then the car traffic lights. Also the red, orange and green bike lights are in the shape of bicycle.
Piękne tereny pozdrawiam
It looks like they need more bike parking.. I know there are a lot, but they all look full.
Funny, some of my dreams are much like this video... Very strange that I dream about real life, someone elses....
The city of Utrecht has invested a lot in bike parking garages in order to combat the rising tide of parked bicycles. Even electronic information signs in the streets have been erected to inform cyclists how many open space space are available in every garage. bicycledutch.wordpress.com/2015/06/09/bicycle-parking-guidance-system-in-utrecht/
Also open air bike parking garages have been created around the Utrecht central station, which is a busy railway hub. Almost every railway line crosses Utrecht central station.
@tijn85 twee echt hele gewone stadsfietsen: zie filmpje: watch?v=Zw6zKKDoEf8
And at 5:54 you have the Dutch three-way kiss. *shudder*
I like how nobody wears helmets there, or maybe Its mostly a US thing since we actually have to go on the streets.
Yes indeed. The Dutch have built bike infrastructure to prevent accidents of cyclists. In the 1950's en 60's the car was king in the Netherlands, but that changed in the 1970's. Take a look at the bicycledutch video "How the Dutch got their cycle infrastructure". Helmets are only worn by roadies and mtb cyclists. You are right: bike infrastructure. The lack of bike infra lowers the number of cyclists and more bike infra increases the number of cyclists.
Man, its really depressing how barbaric cycling in Toronto is.
So, you don't like football...
Having a road bike would feel like having a ferrari.
A velomobile is even faster and more fun.
