Wow, Noel really summed up exactly how I’m feeling about synths these days. As a guitarist, Ive always loved the sounds of synths, but never had the time or bucks to indulge my curiosity. Then last year, at 57 years old, I discovered the world of virtual instruments! A year of learning everything I possibly can cram into my head about synths, their history, and companies like Arturia making them available to us to incorporate into out music. As Noel would say “It’s *ucking brilliant!”

I'm 55 and and have just got into the magical world of synths - I am not a musician. I really like what Arturia are doing and get so much fun with their gear. I started off with the Polybrute and then a Beatstep Pro and am avidly waiting for the Keylab 61 to arrive. I'm looking forward to using that with Analogue Lab, Ableton and Pigments' being able to faff about with modulation and envelopes. For me, it's a release from work and the ability to disappear into my own head and play for a while.

Man this right here. People get too bogged down into the technical shit and lose track of just making art. It doesn't matter if you know all the bells and whistles if it sounds shite. Some of the best artists in the world don't have a clue about the technical side of things, they just piss around with it until it does something that sounds or looks good. There's a colourist in the film industry called Aidan Farrel who is one of the best artists there are at the craft and he's not at all savvy with the technical side of things. He's the guy who did the Channel 4 series Utopia which was a ground breaking colour grade. Plus he did loads of the biggest music vids back in MTV days for bands like U2. While most people were technicians who were treating it like engineering, he was stuffing kitkat wrappers into the gate to see what would happen. I worked in the industry myself for close to ten years and being a Colourist was all about gamuts and codecs and colour transforms and loads of technical shit and people always act like they're the shit if they know the data side of things but it really doesn't matter so long as you can make good art without it.

please arturia ... start making 90's keyboards like the ensoniq's and the emu's ... enough with the anolog's of the 80's and 70's keyboards maybe a Yamaha EX5 or a Korg X3 would be nice

"The time's right for rock and roll again. I think people have had enough of Jesus Jones and all these bands with drum machines and The Cure going all goth and all the rest of it, or indie dance or whatever it is, and people are going back to the good old rock song played with guitars, with no keyboards on it, no piano, no effects. Lock up your sequencers, lock up your drum machines" - Noel and Bonehead, 1994.
Anyway, whatever, I fucking love synth plug-ins personally.

He was totally right though, rock ruled the roost for at least the next decade after that comment

If Noel likes the V Collection then I gotta buy it now. I'm like a NG wannabe albeit a poor one
