      Thanks, I appreciate that!! You will love this trail so much. I've actually considered doing it from East to West just so I could do it again!!

    Just thank you for showing us the trail!! Planning on doing the Ozark Highlands Trail sometime soon and is so great to see what to expect! Just wish I had such a great partner as Jackie B !!

      Thanks for watching!! I'm sure you will love this trail, it has been my favorite hike to date. I'm lucky I found Jackie on the Ozark Trail I think labs make great hiking dogs. Sadly, his back leg has gotten worse over the last year and a half so I'll only be able to take him on short hikes from now on. GOOD LUCK ON THE OHT!!!!!!

      Get some Glucosamine from the vet or pet supply to help his leg. I had a Gold Lab for 22 years and when his back legs started bothering him, I used that and helped him a lot. Best friend I've ever had!

    WOW! These are really great videos. I would have commented earlier but could not quit watching. These serve as inspiration for me and my grandsons. Thank you so much capturing so much of the beauty of the Ozarks. I lived in the Ozarks for a few years and they are absolutely wonderful and beautiful . Thanks again.

      Thank you!! This is the best kind of comment a person could hope for. I'm truly happy that you enjoyed the videos. I agree, I love the Ozarks and think they are incredible mountains to hike through. I appreciate you watching and I hope you and your Grandson go hiking together on the OHT soon, take care!!!

    Great videos! I'm planning an OHT thru hike this fall and really enjoyed the info. I was wondering how I was going to resupply. Never thought about the food cache idea! Two thumbs up.

    • @somewhereonthetrail
      @somewhereonthetrail  8 лет назад +3

      +Matt Matthews Thank you for the kind words! I bought those ammo cache containers on Amazon for $20 a piece. So it's a very affordable solution since there are no easy resupply towns on trail. If you need any info please let me know I would be glad to help out!!

    Great job! I'm planning some section hikes leading up to a thru hike myself and these videos will help.
    By the way, have you seen Karl's thru hike journal over at trailjournals? He went through in January I think. He was quite irritated by the lack of blazes in the wilderness area. I don't know, but in WV when they designate a wilderness area they remove them ALL. There might be a few best chewed wooden signs at intersections if you are lucky. heh!
    Thanks for sharing!

    • @WayOffTheTrail

      bear chewed ... I mean :-)

    • @somewhereonthetrail
      @somewhereonthetrail  8 лет назад +2

      +WayOffTheTrail I have not seen Karl's thru-hike journal but will certainly be checking it out! I was worried I was off trail a few times in that section but somehow I never was. You walk so far before you see a blaze that you're praying you're still on trail so you don't have to backtrack all those miles!!! Good luck on your hike, I'm sure you will love it out there!! Thanks for watching!!!!!

    Great videos! I'm planning an OHT thru hike for this december, and I was wondering what shuttle you used? Can't wait to get out there!

    • @somewhereonthetrail
      @somewhereonthetrail  6 лет назад +2

      Thank you for watching!!! You're going to love it I'm sure, it's such a beautiful and rugged trail. I only used one shuttle out of Camp Ozone around the halfway point, I was able to take a night off in the Super 8 in Clarksville. I used Mark Hodge from the Hagerville Store. He accepts donations for the shuttle service which I believe was 30 to 40 dollars one way. He picked me up at Ozone and dropped me at the motel and picked me up early the next morning and dropped me at the trailhead, it was well worth it!! Mark Hodge 479-885-6330. Hope this helps...

    Nicely done! I hope to return to the OHT later this year. I haven't been on the trail since 1990.
    One question: How did you shuttle to Lake Ft. Smith S.P. and leave your car on the Buffalo?
    Thanks

    These videos are quite helpful! I am trying to plan a long section hike on the OHT next week and would really appreciate some insight if you could!

    • @somewhereonthetrail
      @somewhereonthetrail  6 лет назад

      Thanks for the kind words!! You should be fine with water since it's rained so much lately. I would be careful of the water crossings because there has been so much rain. Hurricane Creek might be too high to get through but there is a high water bypass. The section from Ozone to Fairview has many great water features like waterfalls and things like that but you will have to determine whether you can make it across some of the creeks. I was there in November so the situation was quite different, I walked across creeks that you will most likely have to ford. You might consider bringing some shoes for the water crossings. You could also cache some supplies, food etc. along the way so you don't have to carry so much. I would also recommend the guidebook or some really good maps. The guidebook was full of good info and I was very glad to have carried it with me. I hope this helps and thank you for watching. If you have any specific questions please let me know. Happy Hiking!!

      Somewhereonthetrail I really appreciate the response! I definitely got the impression that water was quite reliable for most of the year. The water features look spectacular. From what I had read I was only concerned about Buffalo River at this point... I may have to rethink my start and finish points. Thanks again!

    • @somewhereonthetrail
      @somewhereonthetrail  6 лет назад +2

      I didn't even think about the Buffalo River but yeah, I lucked out and was able to get across pretty easily but it could be pretty high this time of year. www.buffaloriver.com/pages/floating/current-buffalo-river-level/ They show some water levels on this site and they look okay.

    great vids!!!!!!! thnx!!! wanted to ask your opinion of best time to go if I want to see foliage maybe, good waterfalls, but sleep in hammock without underquilt, meaning no freezing temps. thnx!!!!!!!!!!!

    • @somewhereonthetrail
      @somewhereonthetrail  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for watching!!! That's kind of a tricky question to answer. If you're doing a thru-hike and want to see colors in the Fall you will probably run into some cold nights, on an over-nighter you could probably see some great Fall colors in late October. I would just check for a warm-weather weekend during that time of year. However, sometimes there aren't as many water features in the Fall as there are in the Spring. I've also experienced the weather forecast to be way off so it's a little bit of a gamble, good luck and I hope this helps!!

    Highly enjoyed tagging along on your adventure with Jackie B. Curious what breed he is? His temperament seemed to make him the perfect companion for a hike like this.

      +Rick Rostkowski We appreciate you watching! Jax is a chocolate lab mix/mutt that I found while hiking on the Ozark Trail. He came running out of the bushes when I was about 7 miles from the end of the trip. He followed me to my car and has been hiking with me ever since then!
