We've been lucky enough to have a patch of violets under our hedge for more than 20 years. I never thought to look into them at all. I've known from a young age that they were edible but that was all. Thank you for the information!
You bring simple joy into my life through your appreciation of nature, though its very late at night and I should be asleep. I'm sipping my Violet tincture in hot water from last Spring. Kudos!
Good to remind people to save some for wildlife and seeding. Apparently they are becoming less common in some areas. I might consider trying to grow these at home on the lawn to help them out.
Thank you for sharing; I knew the violets could be eaten but never knew the leaves could be too. I'm fortunate to have an abundance of violets and let them grow as a ground cover. Because they are in garden beds .Just before spring I have always stripped about a third of the leaves to expose the flowers and also supposedly produce more flowers. ( Not sure if this bit is true or whether they are simply more visible although some buds may get more light and therefore develop better.) I love the soft subtle smell of violets and there is a saying if you smell violets there is an angel watching over you. I also have a double variety that can be slow to get established but once it gets started can be just as prolific as the regular sweet violet. I didn't realize parts of Europe lost a lot of wild violets; and I always feel bad thinning the plants out. I think I might start planting them in the grass but then I don't want to let them take over the clover plants.
"sweet violets, sweeter than the roses, covered all over in head to toe in sweet violets" 🎶🎶😂😂 I've been singing that in my head since I saw your post this morning, thanks again for another wonderful video 💜
Discovered your channel yesterday and you guys are great. You both look so happy and healthy which is a good advert for living your lifestyle. Who needs greed and material wealth. Take care both.
I've been picking slowly, dehydrate most of super low to keep color. I'm making a tea today from some older dried and fresh, it's fun to amaze students with the lemon color change.
Beautiful looking and colour little flower- l remember picking a tiny bunch of these for my Grandma as a child but sadly do not see many when out with my grandchildren where we live now. Another new plant to find this spring thank you X

What a lovely video! Yesterday I just discovered the sweet violet's that I planted last year! Such a joy to see them but not enough for making tea. I know where they grow in profusion so will definitely be taking a trip there. Great to see your love for nature and sharing with us Dane. God bless and keep well. 💖🙏💖💜💜💜
I have these in y garden beds I have no clue where they came from unless god himself put them there 🥰 but there is soooo many I just left them they bloomed pretty purple flowers they spread all over but I never knew they were edible 👀👀 I also have mullin plants all over my backyard and dandelions I let them grow even these little strawberry things ..ooo and this one tree turned out to be a apple tree 😮 so now I have apples lol 🤣
Hello, spring is coming round fast cant wait for your new videos to pop up in the notifications. This one ill definitely will be trying.thanks for your knowledge my friend ✌
What a lovely tea. I recently heard about purple shiso tea, so I planted seeds. Looking forward to it. I wonder if there's a color change with shiso tea as well when lemon is added. I'll be looking out for violets soon so I can make this tea, hopefully mixing the two together as an experiment.
I just found your channel. I live in Alabama in the lower U.S. I'm very new to foraging. I have wild violets blooming ALL OVER my yard. The purple ones and the purple/white ones. Both are edible, correct? I'm very excited to try this tea.
Hello, fellow Alabamian! I’ve been intrigued by nature for years, and I’m considering taking a new turn to foraging and and witchcraft. Im glad I’m not alone here!
I found dog violets, picked some, steeped fresh violets for 24-hours on the counter and then put the steeped tea in the refrigerator. How long will it stay good in the fridge?
Why doesn’t mine turn blue? I have violas, I pour hot water over it. It didn’t happen last time, so I collected a huge jar this time, it still didn’t work, do you add lemon juice or something?
Are they true sweet violets, more so its also amount of flower to water. If too much water it comes out much lighter. The lemon turns it blue to purple/pink(ph indicator basically). Good luck.

Thanks for reminding everyone to save some for the wild life.
Keeping the balance is important 🙂
I love how Violets are shaped a little like butterflies
That's a great way to describe them 🙂
Looks like butterflies dancing in a cup
Surprising how beautiful it is 🙂

Great video! Thank you. From San Francisco, California.

These are one that spread by root/rhizome even more than by seeds. I have more this year and harvested last year from yard.
I have violets in my garden x

Does this flower scentless..??
No, but it numbs your nose so you can only smell it a little while
@@homeiswhereourheartis thanks..one last thing to know what is the avarage flower size..?
I only find dog violets in the US, it’s pleasant, but too bad, not sweet or fragrant.
