- The Brandenburg Concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV 1046-1051, original title: Six Concerts à plusieurs instruments) are a collection of six instrumental works presented by Bach to Christian Ludwig, Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt, in 1721. They are widely regarded as some of the best orchestral compositions of the Baroque era.

THIS WEEK, THE TERRIBLE TRIO
For anyone who is wondering, this version is performed by Leonid Malyshev: Neva Festival Orchestra. Recorded in 1997.
"If you want to understand Beethoven, listen to Beethoven. If you want to understand humanity, listen to Mozart. If you want to understand the universe, listen to Bach." Douglas Adams

@@AvntXardE Competition again? Poor mind. This makes me really sad! Who would tell blue a better colour than green? It's all one and all belongs together!
I didn't know this aphorism until now. Kind of true for me. But it depends on the listener. In general I believe that no human being can nor will "understand" this universe. Maybe we get a glimpse of the physical structur but never of the sence.
@@AvntXardE Sorry, maybe I didn't get you right. Considering all the other great composers of this period (Tschaikowski, Debussy, Wagner, Rachmaninov, and many more) there is no base for comparison.
@@AvntXardE I generally agree with your statement! ;-) I am a semi-professional musician/composer and MD for over 40 years, mainly in Rock/Pop/Jazz projects. Listening to the great classical music made clear to me, that the basics of our popular music today was formed a long time ago. Me and most of my fellow musicians especially appreciate the works of J.S. Bach. He's probably one of the most influential and inspiring musians in history and on modern music.
Everything about this version screams perfection. It's usually--to my ears, anyway--too fast, too slow, dynamics too soft... This is stunning! Maestro, if you're out there, thanks for giving us the very best.
Nailed it, Miriam.
Agreed!
I think so too, some versions are too fast for me. Might be because first time I heard was in this tempo, I just like it this way.
Agreed. It's perfection at this speed. You can savour it much better instead of at the usual breakneck speed of other groups
Agreed, it's often played like they've got a train to catch and they're late.
Welcome to Distractible! a Wood Elf production with your hosts, Mark, Bob, and Wade!

Distractible
Very ironic considering Bach wasn't rich and his music was dismissed by the nobility of his time.

The music is so lively, filled with colors, depth and all sorts of twists and turns that only the Master Himself could possibly compose. Long live Baroque. Thank you J. S. Bach, your amazing 280 years later!

What a sublime and mesmerizing masterpiece, beautifully intricate and flowing with grace, magic and perfection.
This music is of such surpassing brilliance and beauty that it will resonate for centuries to come, with undiminished serenity and poignancy, all while invariably giving rise to this amazingly euphoric sensation of nostalgic rapture, and endearing love.
For such music, in all its preeminent glory and greatness, cannot be surpassed anywhere in the vast and limitless cosmos, wonderfully elevating and ennobling as it has always been and will always be.
Soothingly dazzling and of this seamless and divine magnificence, this piece of classical music could easily serve as the chosen and venerated classical theme music of the universe.
Bach was, and still is, Godlike, as his name alone is synonymous with all that is ethereally inspired, deeply moving, philosophically rousing and eternally brilliant, as this priceless and spectacular masterpiece most certainly is.
That was beautiful :')
Thank you!! ☺☺☺
Personally I think it was bloated and pompous and I wouldn't bet against the possibility of you owning a fedora.
Personally, I believe Bach was a very romantic-esque composer in an entirely different era. This guy was way ahead of his time.
if Bach were here he would probably say something like "oh no I am not Godlike my talents were a gift from the Lord"
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) was a great and gifted German Baroque composer, musician and church organist. Bach's 'Brandenburg Concertos Nos 1 to 6' are all beautiful and magnificent! I particularly enjoy listening to the 'Brandenburg Concerto No. 3' at both the faster and the slower tempo depending on my mood! It is so beautiful and exquisite!
i love the brandenburg concertos and i love this especially at this tempo!!! thanks soso much for posting!!!
I agree with you on the tempo.
Yeah, I like the slow or medium versions. The fast doesn't allow us to enjoy it as much.
I disagree with the tempo. The faster tempo makes it sound more lively.
@@excuseyou7198 I agree with all of you. The slower tempo makes the harmonies, the notes, the melody stand out to enjoy. But slow also sound like MIDI (if you're old enough to know). A faster tempo makes for more dynamics and actually more freedom of expression in this piece.

i heard this in the movie Die Hard a LONG time ago, and i've never been able to find a version that felt like the one in the movie- but this is exactly it. in fact i wonder if this is the recording used in the movie
I agree. That is a wonderful version arranged for quartet, but I've never been able to determine the specific recording.
Mike Martin it is great right? every version i've heard doesn't have the same magic as the one in the movie

Such a relief to listen to this played at a slower tempo!

I personally like to have this song on while playing Saint's Row 3, (not from an external source, it's in the game). It serves as a hilarious contrast to not just the juvenile humor, but also the chaotic firefights and car chases.

So let me explain my interpretation and you my fellow commenters will tell me what you think about it. I think It's fair to say that beautiful music such as this piece by Bach can be accurately described as possibly the purest form of art, having profound effects on the soul in the deepest sense. Despite all the technological progress we still don't exactly know how human consciousness can react so emotionally to audio stimuli in form of music and It's not obvious to me at all we will ever know for certain. I would claim that part of the puzzle is structure of it - good music has to have both repetition, certain predictability but simultaneously it cannot remain constant, it needs to change and evolve in a sense throughout the piece otherwise it becomes stale, boring - thus a song has to oscillate in a zone between order and chaos for us to truly enjoy it. That is unless you are drugged out of your mind jumping up and down in one of those raves where post-modernists substitute music for sounds that more resemble machine working than a work of art. Of course these so-called-free thinkers of the progressive, modern age would claim that it's all subjective and their music is in no way of lesser quality than say, classical music. Comparing the the two types reminds me of the story of Cain and Able where [....]
