    The worst thing about the American political spectrum is that people shoehorn themselves into being blue or red, instead of separating themselves from one point of view to see the true overall best point of view for the country.

    I think it gives me a sense of fulfillment when I stick to my values and pursue my life goals without being impacted by the pressure of ending up making significant materialistic gains.
    Very recently, Ive started a podcast where I plan to speak more about the topics related to preserving our humane sides, values in the modern world. It is called

    the more convenience you value the more you get paid... the problem with that is what convenience, is, has nothing to do with what convenience serves, necessarily... altruism without a doubt has more value than selfishness... good character has objectively more value than corrupted character... yet these convince no major groups of people at any given point in time... convenience becomes designated to convenience-holders... and the more purely capitalistic/privately interested we become the more artificial this can become... but as long as bright great minds like your conscious self become more present in our societal structure the convenience-holders will gain more this power that we care about

    Doesn't capitalism align the self-interest of the individual with the needs/wants of others. So in a way it's the only system that gets people to care about others. You would never have started a course to HELP people get into Harvard, if it wasn't for capitalism.
    Also in 2021, startups that are actually fighting climate change collectively raised over $50B. So then I'd assume that what you think is valuable (volunteering to go convince ppl to vote liberal) is not actually a valuable contribution to society.

    • @matthewk2388
      @matthewk2388 Год назад +3

      It is true that in Econ 101, you read a quote from Adam Smith: "It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own self-interest." And there is some truth to that, undoubtedly, as many people who serve necessary roles in society are remunerated for them, and without that, they may not be motivated to provide for anyone outside of their families.
      But in the real world, it is not so simple. There are things like negative externalities--costs suffered to third parties that result from economic transactions where there are misalignments between the good of society and the "good" of the few.
      Plus, to really fight climate change, there would have to be way, way, way more than the paltry $50 billion raised by startups. (And yes, I am calling $50 billion paltry, as it is in the grand scheme of things).
      And, she doesn't really push her Ivy advising course because she feels it disproportionally benefits the already privileged.

    • @dude_dude_
      @dude_dude_ Год назад +1

      @@matthewk2388 I like that quote! Also I like your explanation of negative externalities! It seems after some googling, the most frequently mentioned negative externality of capitalism was pollution (not sure if there is something bigger that I'm missing).
      I agree it's not a perfect system, but my counter-argument would be that capitalism incentivizes people to solve the negative externalities that capitalism creates. Not sure if that's a good argument since there might be a point where the negative externalities outweigh the positive externalities (however, i don't think we have reached this point yet, hopefully xD).
      But as an example, I should've mentioned Elon Musk, who became the richest person on the planet, because he is solving such a valuable problem. He caused all car companies to try to switch to electric vehicles, all in the fight for climate change. Which in my head is kinda him attempting to solve the negative externalities created by capitalism.
      And i didn't know about her course, i didn't mean it as a negative thing, sorry about that!
