The compact tool kit concept has appealed to me for awhile now. I like how it can be customized to just what you need and nothing more, and I'm liking it even more now that Leatherman is going ape stuff with their prices. The "Hiker" adds a saw to the Tinker, and the "Fieldmaster" adds scissors and mp hook to the Hiker.
I travel a lot and have a couple of small bags that are always in my suitcase. They carry the small items that I always bring on my trips. This pouch looked like it would hold everything that I keep in those two bags and keep things neat and organized. I ordered one, and it arrived today. It looks great and it will get populated when I get home tonight. Thanks for this suggestion.
How about the Victorinox Huntsman? It's got the wood saw, and corkscrew (instead of the dedicated Philips Head screwdriver) beside the awl punch. Of the 30+ various Victorinox and Wenger models I have, it's probably my favorite. I had 2 or 3 but gave one to my brother. The Knipex pliers are great also. I've got the 87 01 125 Cobra Pliers, 87 01 150 Cobra Pliers, and the 86 03 150 Pliers Wrench.
The 150 Knipex Cobra, is the best tool to edc with your multitool. I'll give you only 2 reasons,even thoough I find many more. One reason, is that you can carry a Swiss Army knife and adding the Cobra, makes it a better combo, than any plier based multitool on the market.Now, imagine edcing a Victorinox Spirt X, or A Leatherman Wave and and also edc the 150 Knipex Cobra as a combo tool. Still small, easily edcable and you get tremendous utility wherever you are, what ever it might be.
Great kit! The one extra I have is a 4 way sillcock key for water. It works on most outdoor water spigots on building’s. Good way to replenish water in town.
Replace the wire tie with a length of #12 or #14 insulated copper wire. Has same tying function. Can be cut to length. Functions as electrical jumper wire. A 4" Visegrip with a wire cutter is good, and provides an extra hand and clamp.
Good video so a couple of suggestions to think about adding. You mentioned that you took out your multi tool & replaced it with the pliers but you don't have any wire cutters with you, say you needed to cut & or strip some 12v auto electrical cable or maybe you need to cut some basic fence or other type wire, without wite cutters you are stuck you can get really small wire cutters these days. My next suggestion is some whatwe here in Aust call cable ties you might call them zip ties or similar in the u.s. they are light weight, you can bend them in 1/2 to carry & they are really strong. You could carry some cotton balls they squash down to nothing & some Vaseline in a seperate zip lock plastic bag, they serve several purposes including fire starting & 1st aid. I know you had a bic lighter but maybe a Ferrocerium Rod Flint Fire Starter just in case. Here's another suggestion "if" you needed to join some auto wire with solder & you didnt have a soldering iron you can twist the wire together, wrap some very thin solder around the join & heat it with your Bic lighter & you will have a soldered joint that will get you through. I work in maintenance and have some of those adjustable pliers. I used them multiple times daily. Soon other guys started buying them when they found out how handy they were.

Krazy Glue, has to be spelled with a K, Works great for sealing wounds and as a glue of course. I get the twist tube with a brush. It drys fast and holds for a while for cuts. Better than bandaids because it is water proof for a while. By the time it wears off you don't need it any longer. I also carry Tylenol, Advil and Rolaids. Having cables is great and I have a compact travel AC to USB adapter so I can charge when I have power.
To reduce weight I prefer the 4.5" Channellocks and a 4 in 1 pocket screwdriver over the multi tool. I also carry a utility knife for a blade chipping task or to lend out. I also like to carry a small mirror and a pocket sized telescoping magnet.
I've been carrying the knipex pliers for a while now and just really enjoy using them. As far as the SAK, you could go with the hiker or trekker, which are pretty much the same as the tinker but adds the saw. Great video as always! Really enjoy the edc videos! Oh, also you could carry the cash inside your phone case. Just another option
This pouch is well thought out. I liked the small Anker recharger. I carry an Anker in my truck but it is the size and weight of a cell phone. This one is just right for portability in a pouch. I carry a multitool but I carry a Swiss Army knife which has the same tools as this one plus a small saw. It is much lighter and I use it all the time. The channelocks idea is great. It is more useful than the pliers on the multitool. I carry an emergency blanket from SOL which is much thicker than the space blanket and can accommodate two people. I recommend it for your pouch. If you are looking for a wood saw on a SAK, check out the Fieldmaster (also has scissors as well as the saw), or the Farmer. The Farmer has nice textured aluminum scales, and slightly bigger/thicker main blade...only downside is that you lose the toothpick and tweezers.
the beauty of most of these items is they can be replaced, and they are priced well. the ONLY thing i would upgrade is that anker power bank. ive gone to the slim ones which are very capable. a usb to usb-c adapter is very cheap. then pack in your existing cords it is the only worth while upgrade to this system. everything else is literally perfect. the demands of the devices now call for a better power bank. the anker powercore pd slim is a little pricey but you should get 2 years out of it and you can charge 2 devices at one time. the usb to usb-c adapter is invaluable since most of us still have older cords that arent just type c to type c yet the syntech usb-c to usb adapter 2 pack on amazon is 8.99 check it out. i have 4 of them and they work with my anker wall chargers and power banks, and the power station.
As far as the mutlitool idea i would say get a keybar, they are fairly decent in price and they sell tool that fit it so u can customize it with the tool you would use and nothing you wont.
Victorinox Forester would be a good replacement. I use something similar though exact model is no longer available. Those worksharp field sharpeners are a pain but I guess if you HAVE to sharpen (not just hone) in the field then that's it. Would argue that it is overkill as EDC.
I've carried the knipex cobra's in my maxpedition sling bag and in my opinion it is worth the buy. The lock up is very strong for how small it is and I've used to to twist pipe fittings and loosen and fasten countless nuts and bolts. I've use it when I was a CNC machinist, and welder for a light rail transit agency. But also for doing small taste like tightening the red dot mounts for my AR. Anyways, the knipex cobra's are the real deal 👍🏻
Check out the SAK “Walker”. It’s the size of the “Tinker Small”; it has a saw, knife, combo bottle opener/can opener/regular screwdriver, tweezers, & toothpick. Very good size & weight to utility ratio!
As far as replacing the Tinker, I go with a SAK Farmer or Victorinox Swiss Army RangerGrip 78. The Ranger is bigger but has locking blade and push button release. Both knives have great saws.

I'm currently researching an EDC pouch build, so I'm watching A LOT of RUclips videos on the subject, despite the dozens of similar videos made I keep coming back to this one again and again. i like the relative minimalistic approach ... compared to all those INCH-EDC weighing half a ton packed with stuff no one really needs that some people show in their vids.
You may have a pair of gloves with you somewhere but an extra pair in your edc, maybe a pair of thin work smart gloves so it’s touchscreen compatible. I always seem to be misplacing mine and in a pinch it’s good to know there’s a dedicated place for it in case of emergency etc. Knipex, excellent company and I have one in my car tool bag. Great idea, I might have to add one to my edc bag!
Great setup Arron, since you have the utility knife I think you should use a small zip tie on the bic ligther to keep it from discharging. Also the SAK Hiker is the same as the Tinker but adds a saw . I like the Fenix light I missed the video on that so I will be checking it out.

“Nip ex” (Knipex) are the best if have multiples of their pliers and they are worth the price paid plus if you kee them in a tool bucket or box they replace a whole set of open box end wrenches
Love the Cobra pliers, best ones ever. I would definitely take a multitool over a SAK. Never really liked the SAK, they're ok for light duty stuff, although most of the tools don't work well. The model you have there is ok, not too many junkie blades. The SAK is light enough that you could also carry a mid/large size multitool, Leatherman Sidekick, Charge+, Wave+,. I know weight and cost can be issues, but the quality, ruggedness of multitools are hard to beat.
Knipex makes a pair called the pliers wrench in the same size, makes for an amazing little pair with those channel locks, I carry mostly the same kit as an operator at a wastewater plant.
Ditch the knife sharpener and put a few pieces of sandpaper in a baseball card protector it works as a sharpener and well sand paper. Replace the multiple cords with a multi tipped cord from harbor freight. Just carry a box cutter blade in a duct tape sachet it eliminates bulk. Just somethings to think about
Have you tried the Ranger series from SAK? The Ranger 78 is hands down a major game changer for me. One handed locking main blade 5 inch saw Screw driver flat and Phillip's Awl Can and bottle opener It's a robust but light enough EDC knife with the majority of the tools I actually use. I also replace the tooth pick with the firefly ferro rod replacement (i had to scrape some off to get it to fit properly though) and use the sak od green pouch with a microstream flashlight slid in it. With a paracord lanyard and paracord on the pouch I have a very good tool system in one pouch.
Been thinking about this concept. SAK and pliers vs multitool. Especially for the bandicoot. My SAK of choice is the fieldmaster. As the Helikon messenger or 5.11 covrt 18 are always handy I am not sure if I need more than fieldmaster anyway. Love the content. Always food for thought. Well done Sir.
Excellent video! Knipex is an excellent brand. Dependable and durable, more so than most. I always carry a SAK which has the saw AND scissors in multiple kits(get home bag, camping- on person edc) I prefer the Wenger brand which unfortunately, was bought out by Victoranox. The scissors operated off of a lever connecting to one of the main springs of the knife...no itty bitty little spring to break. I find the hook style can opener has more secondary uses than the victoranox style opener. After the buy out I got some extras off EBAY courtesy of TSA! I even replaced the tooth pick with an extra small ferro rod...just didn't like the idea of using someone else"s tooth pick! Lots of good ideas. One question, Is your pen intended to write in the rain or at least not run off the paper if it gets wet? It looks like a gel pen which I used and watched as a spilled drink washed most of my notes off the page!! I prefer the fisher space pen, or a zebra pen modified to take the fisher space pen refills. It writes in the rain, on a wall, upside down...you get the idea. Thanks for reviews.
I believe those are Plier/Channel Locks, not an adjustable wrench. 😏 🤪🔧 I do love that brand, its wonderful. Great video, these small prep packs always help in so many ways.
I am trying to make one with the smaller Macpedition EDC pouch,. I will be using a leatherman because I have the bit kit so that covers a lot of screws and hex, plus it has 2 knives, saw, file. It is dedicated tools so no bics or other edc/survival items. 5" Vise-grip right now but may include an adjustable wrench of the Knipex you show.
Love those Husky utility knives. The only other thing I might try to squeeze in there is a nice cotton bandana, although those can also be carried pretty much anywhere I guess.

A few years ago, you always had AAA-battery flashlight in your set. But yes, as of now, you are using rechargeable flashlights. That makes me happy. Nowadays, recharging is more practical than replacement of batteries..
For the saw you can buy the cheap 80 cent razor blades that break apart for a fresh blade and take the blade out and a hacksaw blade cut in half will fit you can then have a metal and wood saw and they are super slim and light and cheap.
Knipex slipjoint is a good choice. Small Visegrip/wirecutter or Visegrip needlenose/wirecutter is also a good choice. I like having a dedicated diag. cutter.
That husky utility knife is the best one I've ever found but sadly let an employee borrow it one day and he lost it😠. Cant find them anywhere to buy now. I also have the 7" Knipex cobra pliers and the 7" pliers wrench and they are awesome.
Pretty good setup, though I really dislike CR123 batteries....would rather carry a AA light. My little light also take s 14500 li ion batteries as well...
Interesting that you have pliers, but no screwdriver. My EDC includes a Leatherman sidekick, and a small picquic dash7 screwdriver. It's in my everyday backpack. Not pocketable. I've just added a set of hex bits to my kit as well for on the go bike repair.

Ka Nee Pecks I believe is the correct way to say Knipex. Even if we say it wrong they are still a great plier. The utility knife brand is Lennox. They are real good. The Dewalt carbide are even better.

There’s a company called clip and carry that sells a pocket clip to install on a lot of the Swiss Army models. Might be worth looking into, looking at the reviews it seems to be pretty decent at least maybe could be built a little bit better if it had a criticism.
Replace your knife with a Victorinox Swiss Army Multi-Tool, EvoGrip S18, $33 on Amazon, it has a locking blade and a saw, replace the toothpick with a Firefly ferro stick and it is a more effective emergency/survival tool for almost the same size.
I recently got the Nite Ize flashlight headband, based on your recommendation and I LOVE it. Brilliant, simple, lightweight, packable piece of gear. I might need to check out that pocket sharpener next.
The Walker is good. The little saw on it wicked. The camper has the same as the tinker but with a saw. It's a little heavier though. The Walker is light and cheap but so functional.
I gave up on Leatherman plier-based multitools altogether and now carry a SAK Super Tinker along with either a Knipex Cobra 4 or 5 inch. This pairing has everything I need and nothing I don't need. The 4 inch Cobra and the SAK fit in a 5th pocket. Does the button on your Cobra have a tendency to get stuck when depressed until you jiggle the handles to disengage it? Is this normal? Thanks. If Tim Leatherman had a Cobra when his car broke down he never would have invented the plier-based multitool.
My Pocket carry Blade is the V/nox Super tinkerIn the EDC maxpedition pouch I have the DermaSafe mini hacksaw-- Butsometimes I swap out the Super Tinker for the V/nox Fieldmaster if I expect to need a wood saw
JMO I would swop the Tinker for a alox handled Farmer, blade saw awl plus the usual bottle and can opener, on this model awl is end mounted not centre sme people find that easier, add a few oral rehydration salts for those mid trek lows.
You need some cordage in there, I have like 10 feet of 550 cord in mine, wrapped in a manner to where it's quickly deployable without getting tangled, weighs next to nothing, and takes up almost no space. Also, I'd recommend taking out that mess of charging cables and replacing the whole lot with a Chafon charging cable. It's only like $9 from Amazon and has a USB A, USB C, 2x USB Micro, USB Mini, and Lightning charging cables all in one. It's compact and can replace that whole mess, allowing you to use your battery bank for practically anything without having to carry half a dozen cables.
Do you know of pouch this size that is made of canvas or a cavas like material. Or maybe leather. Every thing on my belt is leather or canvas. I really like the organization of this pouch and may get one like it for car and backpack.
The amount of steel I tied with my knipex end cutters before they dulled was amazing... they never even "lost a tooth". I wore the plastic off the handles and if Im not mistaken gave them to an apprentice who had the cheap ones just so I could have an excuse to replace them!
At the 9:09 mark, I like that little FENIX LD 15R flaslight. It seems like it would work well clipped to your shirt pocket.

As a mechanic I have converted all of my pliers to Knipex, best quality ergonomics etc. Ze Germans say kneepecks.

Love my knipex cobra pliers. They are the only pliers I’ve used that actually grip well and don’t slip positions.

I actually keep a DMT Diafold sharpener in my kit at all times. It's double-sided(multiple grits), takes up no space, super light and foldable.

Knipex cobra pliers are the bomb. I have the matching size flat jaw plier wrench as well for my EDC
Oi 💪 try not closing the jaws all the way on the knipex. Leave 1 or 2 clicks open, the handles close up smaller for easier packing.💪💪💪

I can’t get over how useful it is for hiking/camping! I wish they would offer a version of it with the corkscrew & awl on the back side; though.
Great video! Upgrade the SAK to a Farmer for the saw. Best SAK made!!! The back of the saws also gives you a 90 degree edge to strike a ferro rod.
I would add a couple standard bandaids and a small pillcase (or checkout counter packs) of motrin/tylenol.
As far as replacing the Tinker, I go with a SAK Farmer or Victorinox Swiss Army RangerGrip 78. The Ranger is bigger but has locking blade and push button release. Both knives have great saws.
This is rather amusing.... I'm currently researching an EDC pouch build, so I'm watching A LOT of RUclips videos on the subject, despite the dozens of similar videos made I keep coming back to this one again and again. Sometimes I don't recognise that I've watched this before and start watching it again thinking it's a new video... LOL In short, it's become my go to reference on the subject. Thanks. 👍
i like the relative minimalistic approach ... compared to all those INCH-EDC weighing half a ton packed with stuff no one really needs that some people show in their vids.
You may have a pair of gloves with you somewhere but an extra pair in your edc, maybe a pair of thin work smart gloves so it’s touchscreen compatible. I always seem to be misplacing mine and in a pinch it’s good to know there’s a dedicated place for it in case of emergency etc. Knipex, excellent company and I have one in my car tool bag. Great idea, I might have to add one to my edc bag!

Great setup Arron, since you have the utility knife I think you should use a small zip tie on the bic ligther to keep it from discharging. Also the SAK Hiker is the same as the Tinker but adds a saw . I like the Fenix light I missed the video on that so I will be checking it out.

“Nip ex” (Knipex) are the best if have multiples of their pliers and they are worth the price paid plus if you kee them in a tool bucket or box they replace a whole set of open box end wrenches
Love the Cobra pliers, best ones ever. I would definitely take a multitool over a SAK. Never really liked the SAK, they're ok for light duty stuff, although most of the tools don't work well. The model you have there is ok, not too many junkie blades. The SAK is light enough that you could also carry a mid/large size multitool, Leatherman Sidekick, Charge+, Wave+,. I know weight and cost can be issues, but the quality, ruggedness of multitools are hard to beat.
Knipex makes a pair called the pliers wrench in the same size, makes for an amazing little pair with those channel locks, I carry mostly the same kit as an operator at a wastewater plant.

Ditch the knife sharpener and put a few pieces of sandpaper in a baseball card protector it works as a sharpener and well sand paper. Replace the multiple cords with a multi tipped cord from harbor freight. Just carry a box cutter blade in a duct tape sachet it eliminates bulk. Just somethings to think about

It's a robust but light enough EDC knife with the majority of the tools I actually use.
I also replace the tooth pick with the firefly ferro rod replacement (i had to scrape some off to get it to fit properly though) and use the sak od green pouch with a microstream flashlight slid in it. With a paracord lanyard and paracord on the pouch I have a very good tool system in one pouch.
my all time favorite SAK is the field master, it has everything the tinker deluxe has, but with a saw.Great tool!
Been thinking about this concept. SAK and pliers vs multitool. Especially for the bandicoot. My SAK of choice is the fieldmaster. As the Helikon messenger or 5.11 covrt 18 are always handy I am not sure if I need more than fieldmaster anyway.

Excellent video! Knipex is an excellent brand. Dependable and durable, more so than most. I always carry a SAK which has the saw AND scissors in multiple kits(get home bag, camping- on person edc) I prefer the Wenger brand which unfortunately, was bought out by Victoranox. The scissors operated off of a lever connecting to one of the main springs of the knife...no itty bitty little spring to break. I find the hook style can opener has more secondary uses than the victoranox style opener. After the buy out I got some extras off EBAY courtesy of TSA! I even replaced the tooth pick with an extra small ferro rod...just didn't like the idea of using someone else"s tooth pick! Lots of good ideas. One question, Is your pen intended to write in the rain or at least not run off the paper if it gets wet? It looks like a gel pen which I used and watched as a spilled drink washed most of my notes off the page!! I prefer the fisher space pen, or a zebra pen modified to take the fisher space pen refills. It writes in the rain, on a wall, upside down...you get the idea. Thanks for reviews.

I believe those are Plier/Channel Locks, not an adjustable wrench. 😏 🤪🔧 I do love that brand, its wonderful. Great video, these small prep packs always help in so many ways.
I am trying to make one with the smaller Macpedition EDC pouch,. I will be using a leatherman because I have the bit kit so that covers a lot of screws and hex, plus it has 2 knives, saw, file. It is dedicated tools so no bics or other edc/survival items. 5" Vise-grip right now but may include an adjustable wrench of the Knipex you show.
Love those Husky utility knives.
The only other thing I might try to squeeze in there is a nice cotton bandana, although those can also be carried pretty much anywhere I guess.
I like the Sak Huntsman. Same as yours with scissors, saw and hook.

A few years ago, you always had AAA-battery flashlight in your set. But yes, as of now, you are using rechargeable flashlights. That makes me happy. Nowadays, recharging is more practical than replacement of batteries..

Swiss Army Knife Camper knife would be a great fit. It has a saw and cork screw. I have several of these and use them a lot.
The huntsman is a great SAK. Add a wood saw and scissors to your tinker and you have a huntsman.
For the saw you can buy the cheap 80 cent razor blades that break apart for a fresh blade and take the blade out and a hacksaw blade cut in half will fit you can then have a metal and wood saw and they are super slim and light and cheap.
Knipex slipjoint is a good choice. Small Visegrip/wirecutter or Visegrip needlenose/wirecutter is also a good choice. I like having a dedicated diag. cutter.

That husky utility knife is the best one I've ever found but sadly let an employee borrow it one day and he lost it😠. Cant find them anywhere to buy now. I also have the 7" Knipex cobra pliers and the 7" pliers wrench and they are awesome.

Pretty good setup, though I really dislike CR123 batteries....would rather carry a AA light. My little light also take s 14500 li ion batteries as well...
Interesting that you have pliers, but no screwdriver. My EDC includes a Leatherman sidekick, and a small picquic dash7 screwdriver. It's in my everyday backpack. Not pocketable. I've just added a set of hex bits to my kit as well for on the go bike repair.
The swiss army knife gets the job done on the screws for me.
Hand warmers. One in your armpit, wrap up in the space blanket, you're good til morning.

Victorinox Swiss Army Fieldmaster, Hiker or Huntsman would be good choices for replacements. I have a Huntsman and really like it.
Seems like a lot of stuff to carry about town. Particularly when none of it actually looks like its ever been used.
But some day...maybe just some day, he can be the guy who says i told you man, I told you man you'd come asking me for a dude wipe.... or not. Ka Nee Pecks I believe is the correct way to say Knipex. Even if we say it wrong they are still a great plier. The utility knife brand is Lennox. They are real good. The Dewalt carbide are even better.

The VicNox I use with a saw is the Fieldmaster. It has never let me down & that's why I have two of them! LoL
There’s a company called clip and carry that sells a pocket clip to install on a lot of the Swiss Army models. Might be worth looking into, looking at the reviews it seems to be pretty decent at least maybe could be built a little bit better if it had a criticism.
Replace your knife with a Victorinox Swiss Army Multi-Tool, EvoGrip S18, $33 on Amazon, it has a locking blade and a saw, replace the toothpick with a Firefly ferro stick and it is a more effective emergency/survival tool for almost the same size.
I recently got the Nite Ize flashlight headband, based on your recommendation and I LOVE it. Brilliant, simple, lightweight, packable piece of gear. I might need to check out that pocket sharpener next.

The Hiker is the SAK that's closest to the Tinker with the wood saw IIRC.
Like the set up, but no wall plug for charging? Is that something you would just keep in what ever bag you would be carrying this in?
The Walker is good. The little saw on it wicked. The camper has the same as the tinker but with a saw. It's a little heavier though. The Walker is light and cheap but so functional.
The One Handed Trekker is a great SAK if you're really wanting a saw in your knife.
The Victorinox "Hiker"... Same tools as the Tinker with the addition of a saw.
I gave up on Leatherman plier-based multitools altogether and now carry a SAK Super Tinker along with either a Knipex Cobra 4 or 5 inch. This pairing has everything I need and nothing I don't need. The 4 inch Cobra and the SAK fit in a 5th pocket.
Does the button on your Cobra have a tendency to get stuck when depressed until you jiggle the handles to disengage it? Is this normal? Thanks.
If Tim Leatherman had a Cobra when his car broke down he never would have invented the plier-based multitool.

My Pocket carry Blade is the V/nox Super tinkerIn the EDC maxpedition pouch I have the DermaSafe mini hacksaw-- Butsometimes I swap out the Super Tinker for the V/nox Fieldmaster if I expect to need a wood saw

JMO I would swop the Tinker for a alox handled Farmer, blade saw awl plus the usual bottle and can opener, on this model awl is end mounted not centre sme people find that easier, add a few oral rehydration salts for those mid trek lows.
Check out the Huntsman, then you get the saw and the great sissor:)
You need some cordage in there, I have like 10 feet of 550 cord in mine, wrapped in a manner to where it's quickly deployable without getting tangled, weighs next to nothing, and takes up almost no space.
Also, I'd recommend taking out that mess of charging cables and replacing the whole lot with a Chafon charging cable. It's only like $9 from Amazon and has a USB A, USB C, 2x USB Micro, USB Mini, and Lightning charging cables all in one. It's compact and can replace that whole mess, allowing you to use your battery bank for practically anything without having to carry half a dozen cables.

Do you know of pouch this size that is made of canvas or a cavas like material. Or maybe leather. Every thing on my belt is leather or canvas. I really like the organization of this pouch and may get one like it for car and backpack.
Love that husky utility knife. I’ve been carrying a husky utility knife everyday but a much bulkier one. Will have to try this one out for sure!!

The amount of steel I tied with my knipex end cutters before they dulled was amazing... they never even "lost a tooth".
I wore the plastic off the handles and if Im not mistaken gave them to an apprentice who had the cheap ones just so I could have an excuse to replace them!
