“A bourree is an old French dance usually quite fast, characterized by upbeats BUM BUM”. Bravo for even using alliteration in your descriptions! 😘

This is very helpful for someone who will lead this piece as a conductor or a section lead in the strings. All musicians should listen to this lecture series- well done! I look forward to more like this.

Most illustrative and compelling in discussion and performances following. I echo A. Thouin's comments. Bravo!

Timestamps of the performances for once you've already watched the (very good) discovery bits and want to listen to the performance of each movement:
    I. Boisterous Bourrée 8:56
    II. Playful Pizzicato 16:42
    III. Sentimental Sarabande 25:19
    IV. Frolicsome Finale 37:42

You rightly say that the dedicatee was Britten's teacher Audrey Alston. May I assume that her aliterative name, linked with Benjamin Britten's own, inspired the titles of the movements?

Thank you very much! But the Sarabande is a spanish dance, not french! 20:10

The town of Lowestoft is, of course, on the East coast of England, not the West coast!
