So useful and simple tutorial, I found this really helpful.A metal wire version of the lantern would be interesting - the joining of wires seamlessly.Anyway a nice tutorial, helpful for making a sellable creative work.

Hi. I realize this is a teaching video. I just thought you might be interested in some interesting background information. Please research an artist by the name of William Leslie under light sculptures. He has been creating magnificent art pieces in this vein for decades. I was very fortunate to have taken several private lessons from him. His technique is a bit different and maybe less expensive. Also the end result is also worth seeing. Reed construction is similar though we also use flat reeds. Just plain tissue paper is used and just strips not flat coverage. Maybe 3 to 4 layers depending on desired translucence wanted. It can wrinkle-no problem. The tissue edges blend interestingly. Then you light it. One of his pieces was extremely large and hung from the ceiling of an airport. He lives near San Diego, California.

Thanks so much for the tutorial. What is the thickness of the reed you use? I want to make sure before I order.

Hi! Gary, great video. I am using colored rice paper and I am having water marks/ glue marks on the paper. Does this mean I have too much glue and not enough water? Thanks

Tip, if you use a hair dryer or carefully use a heat gun you can get rid of all the hot glue strings.
