You know Kevin, it's always hard to fathom, as a yankee from the northeast, the variances of life from one part of the country to another, within the same time period. While Seth Bullock was in his later years, my grandfather was a race car driver!! I have a photo of him with his 1911 Chalmers, at a race track in Cuba. Trying to balance Teddy Roosevelt, Seth Bullock, cowboys and guns, the west, etc,...when someone in ohio is repeatedly taking off for cuba to race cars, is such a strange juxtaposition!!! 😅
Have you tried to Google car racing in Cuba? As someone who has always enjoyed the sport I wanted to see what these 1911 cars looked like sadly all I found was cars from the 1950’s. Google could be wrong of course
@etainshewolf7140 hi there! Yes I have tried, and so far haven't gotten anywhere with googling that period...the actual photo I have came to me from my grandmother...there was a note inscribed to the backside of which car he was racing that day of the photo. On that 1911, you can see the oiling levers which had to be used as well, whilst racing! However, no exact date of that event...I know he had to give up racing before my grandma would marry him (he promptly did, and off they eloped!!) So I know he wasn't racing after after 1919 at the latest. Google seems so boggy anymore..not like the good old days for them either, I'm agreed !! Best wishes to you, too :)
@@globalheart Thank you for replying back. That’s a nice story to go with your history. I don’t blame your grandma making him give up racing, from what I know about early motor racing there wasn’t much safety and she wanted to keep her man. Best wishes to you too
Thanks for the tour, Kevin. I'm glad you came to the United States, and I hope you have some more video of your trip. As usual your knowledge of history, and your storytelling enthusiasm is great. Cheers from Texas.
An engrossing tour. I appreciate all the connections you share. History becomes a continuum the way you tell these stories and not just isolated events. Stay well.
Welcome Kevin, I followed all your castle tours faithfully. Good to see you in my "neck of the woods", Im a "senior" fan of the old west. Looking forward to many videos!
Speaking for all Americans; it was a pleasure having you here. Thank you for the history lesson. Come back again soon! Little Bighorn Battlefield Nat’l Monument is certainly worth seeing in person if you haven’t yet; it’s a surreal experience. 🍻
Love love your channel once on cannot leave it until the end you are fascinating and an amazing story teller Kevin. You must come to Australia and tell us stories of our country one day.
I LOVED the TV series Deadwood, and I have visited the town of Deadwood a few times (and I am from California --- not close at all). I was impressed with what I saw. But Mr Hicks really brings this town to life in a way that few can. Bravo! ......... (Embreeja in disguise of Kelly).
I hope you're having - or have had - a great time in the US, Kevin. A great choice of location to visit, in my opinion, is Deadwood. I'd love to soak up the atmosphere and history of the place. It's fascinating to hear about those legendary Wild West figures. I must say, it's a topic and period in time that has me spellbound. The romance. Despite places like Deadwood for a time existing beyond the law almost, the sense of being somewhere relevant in the early years must've been tremendously exciting. The boom years. Towns popping up, jobs and wealth being generated. The burgeoning US juggernaut. Progress being forged. The palpable electricity in the air. And the characters, of course! Must've been an amazing time and place to experience! Thanks for bringing us all this wonderful information! 👍
Kevin, thank you. It has been said (Shakespeare) that "the evil that men do lives after them, but the good is oft enterred with their bones." Your efforts help bring at least a modicum of challenge to that statement. I'd proffer that the good never dies as long as it lives on in, for, and through others. Blessings to you.
I love walking around graveyards, I find them so fascinating! Being a Freemason, I like seeing gravestones with Masonic symbolism on them. But there’s so much history to be found reading peoples stones, finding out their stories, it’s intriguing. Edit: Oh wow! I never knew you were on the square! Fraternal love Brother Kevin!
You’ve become my favourite history teacher. I remember seeing you draw a long bow and shoot when I was a child. I’m bowman now because of it. All the best
My only knowledge of Deadwood was from the HBO series of the same name. I knew it followed history somewhat but was interested to hear you flesh the period out more!
I hope you are able to check out some of the Bows used by the tribes of the Plains. I live in Texas and the Comanche were well known for being unbelievable shots as well as being amazing horsemen.
I love that you are knowledgeable about the US as well. So many across the pond say Americans don’t know history of Europe but they couldn’t tell you a thing about the US. Such a cool guy.
deadwood is one of my favorite shows of all time. I don't know if you've ever had the opportunity to see it, kevin, but it's definitely a binge worth series.
Great video Kevin, when I was younger my family would take trips every summer. Five of us would cram into my grandparents car and we'd go for a week or several weeks. We visited the Blackhills multiple times and Deadwood was one of my favorite stops because I was so much interested with history and wild west. We also visited the cemetary, museum and of course the famous Saloon #10 and Wild Bill death chair. Never forgot the "dead mans hand" Aces over Eights. Thank you for sharing these stories so we never forget those that sacrificed to make not just America but made a lasting impression on the world.
Top notch Kevin! I’m a SD native and want to tell you how much I appreciate you and your team’s effort & attention to accuracy, historically and legendary. It’s what I value and why I watch! Your a great storyteller!
We went through Deadwood when we were at Sturgis. Beautiful part of the country, would love to go back with out a million other bikers.😁. Rupert is adorable, give him a hug for me!
Thank you so much for once again giving us an interesting and informative video! 😊 Your efforts really show, and you always give quality content. Thanks again! 😊
Another great video Kev, really interesting! Beautiful countryside and so peaceful. The Americans certainly know how to respect and honour their dead. Like with the veterans. As you said, servicemen get pretty much forgotten in this country. Apparently Bill Hickock was in a saloon card game when he was shot from behind. Thanks again Kev, my best to Julie. Dave.
Cheers Dave, yes I didn't give the whole story of Wild Bill as he's fairly well known, as you could tell I was eager to get up to Seth Bullock's grave 😜
@thehistorysquad Yes! Quite a hike! It was just so lovely and peaceful there and you told the stories with your usual enthusiasm. Your passion for History is quite addictive. When I was there as a child, in the 1980s, my parents and grandparents took us to the saloon where Hickock was shot. I think part of Mom's interest started when her Aunt and Uncle moved her Uncle's Dentistry business to South Dakota, another Aunt and Uncle retired just outside Rapid City and my grandparents took my Mom and Aunt out to visit. Dinosaur Hill didn't have steps yet when they were out there in the 1950s. Beautiful place. Beautiful memories. Thank you, Kevin for covering this cemetery in our Old West. I remember the hike.
@tinaknight9143 I always thought that the Ingalls family settled in Oregon, or was that just in the TV series? I'm trying to think of the town they settled in. I used to enjoy the TV series. It certainly looks a beautiful place with all the surrounding scenery. Dave.
How wonderful to have you in the states for a post. Being a military man if you ever come over to extreme upstate New York in Essex County on Lake Champlain there is Fort Ticonderoga and Fort Crown Point. Fort Crown Point was the largest British military installation in North America. And Fort Ticonderoga has a storied history of both French and Indian War battles and Revolutionary conflicts. Many British soldiers gave their lives there and deserve to be remembered. There is also a ghost story involving a Scottish Highland nobleman named Duncan Campbell. Just south of there is Lake George and Fort William Henry with more British military history some very sad for civilians and soldier alike. As always, I love the way you deliver information. The cemetery tour was wonderful.
Never been to Deadwood, have so much respect for Wild Bill and Calamity Jane truly greats of the wild west, same with Seth Bullock. Sometime Kevin make your way to the Frank Slide in the Crowsnest Pass in Alberta, been there four times so much history in the area. Great video and thanks again!
I just love history!! My family loved it, and in 6th grade, my parents took my sister and myself across the country by car. North on the way out and south on the way back. I have wanted to go out west to see all the ghost towns and wild west locations. Good to see you visiting them. Wonder if you will go to any events or reenactments around.
Hello Kevin, I really enjoy your channel. I've seen some of your other videos of your visits to America. I'm playing catch up with your content. I hope you enjoy your time here. We are a very big country with so many differences depending on the region. Speaking for myself, I've always loved to read about far off places and adventures but the likelihood of actually going is doubtful. Listening and watching people speak about their own countries and histories is a real pleasure. It's especially enjoyable to watch you exploring the country not focusing on the negative. All countries have negative histories along with their glorious history.
Wow, that was a bit different than your other lessons. But again, I have learned something new, as always. Keep on travelling to the US and through Canada please, and share what you find. Many a forgotten story may come to light.
I'm glad you enjoyed the tour Marco, a bit different as you say. I shot a few other videos during my 'vacation' there and hope to do some similar road trips in the future. Very best wishes my friend.
Rupert steals the show. The most adorable dog on the internet. 💖

Thanks very much!
What a wonderful story.
Injoyed so much. Thanks
Awesome video. I love the history!!!
Thank you for another excellent video Mr Hicks.
Absolutely brilliant video...Thanks kevin
Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Nicely done video! Co star brought the right mix or energy to it as well.
Not heard of this cemetery, a very interesting and informative tour, thanks Kevin.
