Even if this not my favorite arc, the play itself is foretelling and foreshadowing a lot of stuff that people, I hope, will see. I still, to this day, don't know why people hate this arc.
The problem with Kana isn't her playing a supporting role -- she does it well, because of her talent -- it is WHY she is doing it. She's locked into that permanently, because of her fear. The last time she dedicated all to putting in a peak acting performance, it got her ruined because nobody else could keep up. So she instead basically made herself into an expendable disposable tool for directors so they would always hire her. But as an actor who wants to pursue the art, that's not acting. That is why Akane wants the "old" Kana, who pursued the peak of acting, and not the current one, and that is why Kana as a kid back then got so mad at Akane -- she saw Akane as the innocent version of herself who still put it all on the line for acting instead of being beaten down by the industry. Kana is Akaine's idol, and Akane thought if she went all out that it would inspire Kana to match her since there would finally be someone who could stand with her on the acting world. But instead, Kana backed down because she remembered what happened.
Kana is right from a professional job-getting standpoint, the problem is that by staying in the shadows for every single role means she's diminishing her own reputation as an actor. She's often in a lot of productions with actors that are way below her so she has to become mid so that she doesn't rock the boat. The Tokyo Blade stage play is a situation where she can go all out because Akane is at a level where she won't be utterly destroyed by Kana in comparison. Also both her character and Saya-hime are central to the scene so it's probably fine if both of them are going all out.
its awesome that Akane's reason for being so competitive with Kana is because she wants to bring back her golden days of acting from when she was a kid she's kinda going about it in a weird way but you can tell that she still deeply admires Kana as an actor and she wants to act with her on the same level, both at their fullest potential also, the reveal that Akane became such a god at reading and dissecting people because she wanted to understand Kana is SUCH a great moment, it makes so many little pieces of their characters slam into place
Poor Kana... She took so many L's as a kid (exposed to the ugly realities of the showbiz-world, and without supporting parents), it affected her career and personality growing up (we see clear signs of inferiority complext and self-loathing) so now she instead guides others to W's she thinks she can't have herself. :/
2:28 As a writer, man I was so impressed how they managed to pull that off. Initially she solemnly said it in rehearsal, but they needed to cut time so they tried the "let's go kill them all!" approach which in turn was out of character. So they settled with this one solemn "We shall fight." Quick, but in-character. Masterpiece.
Shera making a point Roshi not understanding a little bit... Kana being stuck in the supporting role is because she isn't pushing herself to make herself stand out making herself being stuck as a supporting role all her career. But in Kana perspective when she was hoarding the spotlight... she dried up quickly because she overshadowing the main lead.
Well that's true but currently she is a supporting role, don't take up the spotlight from a main to show off your talent. You can go head to head when you have equal standing as characters.
I like the second thing you said, Kana has reasons for nit trying to outshine Akane. Akane is being selfish by trying to push Kana and the writers are wrong because I feel like Akane's gonna be better and it already hurts especially cuz Akane got Aqua and had her huge moment in season 1

Aqua: "Kana shines brightest this way. Let's drag her out into the sun together." Audience: "Don't you do that all the time yourself, bro" Aqua: "When were you under the impression I wasn't a massive hypocrite?"
The thing is, yeah, Kana is elevating the play and Akane's performance, but she won't be a star. She would be a great supporting character, but not a star if she keeps acting that way.

Also - detail a lot of people are missing. Kana may be in a supporting role, but she's the /fan favorite/. If Rock Lee doesn't show TF up, it's going to hit the show AND Kana hard.
I feel like this is something in a lot of works of art or even non-artistic projects. Like in Jazz for example, sometimes the musicans are just trying to support each other or backup a particularly good soloist, and obviously those musicians are very talented, but when two very talented musicians are both giving it their all and trying to outplay each other, it can create a very cool experience for the audience, and lead to greater heights. Within Oshi no ko, we saw this in the first episode. Kana wasn't really excerting her full talent until the lead actor pushed her to do so. That scene wouldnt have been as interesting if she decided to pull back and let the main character's actor steal the spotlight. She wouldn't have been able to even express the skill she's done so far.
On it's true that Akane is totally selfish and not in a bad way here. She's just saying "where my idol at? I changed my life for you. Now come here and be my friend"
12:10 Roshi: “Yeah, but she (Kana’s character) is not the main star of the play.” Actually, she is. If you recall the earlier episodes, they talked about how Akane’s character Saya became known as the “failed love interest” as Kana’s character Tsurugi became more popular with the readers. That’s why Saya had such few lines in the play… she’s actually a minor character. Tsurugi is a major character and she is the female lead of the play. In that scene, because of Akane’s superb acting, she made the character shine. Yes, by letting Akane shine like that, Kana may have done well for the play, but if she also tried to shine as well, it could have made the play even better. Why accept mediocrity when you could get something special by taking a risk?
I think the problem is with what motivation she does that, the motivation behind why she take a step back and let others shine is the problem, she doesn't do it because she "likes" it or it's what she "wants" to do.
Roshi you’re absolute right..Akane wanted a better performance in her eyes out of kana..But kana doesn’t seem to be the primary role in this scene and trying to upstage Akane here would be counterproductive..If you really look at it she’s being a professional..If your role is a background character you don’t say any line thinking your in a day players role.. especially during recording.
To be real, Akane wanting Kana to shine brighter, is selfish, and it goes against what the guy running the play wants to see. So, that makes it the wrong action. Kana, if she chose to match or outshine Akane in that scene, would have been being selfish, thus, the wrong action for the play. Now, for those two girls, them both giving their everything is right for them, just not the job they are doing. I, too, wanna see them go head to head and have a fine battle. However, I've been chewed out countless times at jobs because I selfishly chose to go big, bigger than was needed. I had made the wrong action for the job I was doing. Was it bad for me to tryhard? Nah, not for me. Was it wrong as an employee? The company says yes. That's just the conundrum of need vs capability. If I'm working as a cashier at HEB, and I walk upstairs and start doing the accounting for the store, would my ambition and ability be used correctly? ....no. Could my effort get be a better position(please the audience)? Yeah, that is possible. Is that what my manager(the director of the play) wants from me suddenly? Nah, probably not.
I'd believe "Oshi No Ko" is aimed at "Girl Fans" of the "Manga Fandom" such of the likes similar to "NANA" "Sailor Moon" "Ojamajo Doremi" and "Cutie Honey" There's also "Kekkou Kamen" and "Maicchingu Machiko" Although these "Latter Two" don't need to be searched at all. Since names keep popping up in my head, I'd write "One Last Title" which has "An Audience" here in JPN - Which is "Urusei Yatsura" "The Noisy Ones On The Planet" *ExOskeletal1988 Translation*
I agree, Kana isn't wrong with what she's doing. I'm not saying Akane is wrong but she's being a bit selfish, actually, she's being really selfish. I'm saying this cuz I'm pretty sure this is gonna end with Akane and Aqua forcing the best out of Kana only for Akane to beat her which I really don't want 😪 Kana needs a win and if she can't get it, then let her do what she does best then Kana will be living life her way. Let's not forget that this is her tryna change from being self-centered. It's necessary to have those whose best feature is bringing out the best in others and elevating the performance. At this rate, Kana will give her all only to be devastated by Akane beating her performance with the support of Mr. World's best boyfriend Aqua.
Your comments spells salty all over it. Personally no matter who wins im just excited to see them fight it out, at their best. Kana fans really gotta just chill sometimes.
Incredibly childish perspective. Both Akane and Aqua care about Kana a lot and they want her to get past her trauma so she can improve herself - they both like her best as her arrogant self and they're disappointed that she's not taking the center of attention. The fact that her decision *wasn't* selfish is the whole problem.
@@momochan4peace But isn’t your line of thinking also selfish? Kana will never be able to build that confidence again if she isn’t pushing herself to her best. She will not be a "star" if she doesn’t take up the stage and act like one. Hence her role previous role in Sweet Today and her performance in B Komachi. She’s so focused on her failures that she’s not allowing herself to succeed. Even Akane can see that. Other than nepotism or networking (which requires luck), literally the only way the audience will see someone as a star is through their performance. Exactly why she’s considered a "former" genius. Kana is best gurl for me too but I can see past my own bias to cope with her getting beaten by Akane if it’s for the sake of her character development.
I'd disagree with Roshi's point a bit at the end. Kana's character indeed is less important than Akane's at this point in the story for the world, it's a princess vs a wanderer, but from the audience's perspective Kana's character is more important since she is part of the protagonist's party. It also reflects the story of the Tokyo Blade's manga where Kana's character ends up getting paired with Aqua's character as they from enemies to possible lovers.
The show is making the point that Kana's way of acting is not true to herself. Thus it will lead to a good play but not an amazing play. Kana is afraid of risk but taking risks can elevate the play even beyond what the writers thought it could be.
It's really unfortunate that so many people dropped this anime. Despite its phenomenal animation, storyline, and direction, Season 2 hasn't generated the same hype as Season 1. This is especially surprising given that there aren't any other major shonen series airing right now. After the first episode of Season 1, excitement was high, but when the real story started unfolding around the 3rd or 4th episode-focusing more on the drama within the Japanese entertainment industry-many viewers lost interest and dropped the show.
About what's "right" as the Director put it she doesn't what any director might want the most, but that doesn't mean that a performance of two stars fighting each other wouldn't be just as interesting for the audience.
Good for the play yes, but Kana's acting choices are horrible for her career. Her acting doesn't even scream, but whispers, "I'm a supporting actor. That's all I'll ever be good for." If she was the MCU Black Widow, then forget being released late, that movie would've never even gotten made. Her current acting is only telling producers and directors that she is a great SUPPORTING actor, but she isn't strong enough to lead her own project. She's typecast as the plucky sidekick for the rest of her life
Honestly I don't even get the "gassing up the star" thing. If you're the star, technically you should be good enough to hold that title on your own. The fact Kana is a supporting character doesn't mean she shouldn't be able to give it her all. What if it steals the show? Nothing at all, as everybody on multiple occasions displayed great talent and impeccable performances. Something that I can't comprehend is why two shining stars like Akane and Kana cannot coexist on the stage. I get her perspective, but both as an actor and spectator, I'm way more in line with Akane's reasoning. Akane would've already won against the state Kana is in right now, but that's not a huge accomplishment, because Kana is just nerfing herself for what she thinks is the best, while in acting the more you can do is GIVE your best. You got to focus on your character and put it into work the best way possible, the other characters and "mechanics" between actors come into play only when everybody got their style down. Everything should flow swiftly, with nobody needing to "improve" the show while everyone is already perfectly able to put out a stunning performance. I guess I'm alone on that hill, though.

4:05 I choked on my food. Didn't expect that at all.
3.42 めっちゃおもしれーな。。って英語になっちゃったのね Mecha Omoshire-na
Man Aqua is just so obsessed with Kana, i love it
OMG Akane pulled an Aizen😂
I'd believe "Oshi No Ko" is aimed at "Girl Fans" of the "Manga Fandom" such of the likes similar to "NANA" "Sailor Moon" "Ojamajo Doremi" and "Cutie Honey"
There's also "Kekkou Kamen" and "Maicchingu Machiko" Although these "Latter Two" don't need to be searched at all.
Since names keep popping up in my head, I'd write "One Last Title" which has "An Audience" here in JPN - Which is "Urusei Yatsura"
"The Noisy Ones On The Planet" *ExOskeletal1988 Translation*
Yeeaaah? Raygun? Lmao
Guess bro didn't want Kana to be the moon and be the darkness to her surroundings but become the sun itself aka the Star
Very good episode
9:38 ffs, editor XD
Bro whats the song at 1:10 its so good
Fire episode
Man, Sheera spitting straight facts
And that's how Akane became the 7th Robin
9:38 the Megan Thee Stallion reference is taking me out lmfao
I agree, Kana isn't wrong with what she's doing. I'm not saying Akane is wrong but she's being a bit selfish, actually, she's being really selfish. I'm saying this cuz I'm pretty sure this is gonna end with Akane and Aqua forcing the best out of Kana only for Akane to beat her which I really don't want 😪
Kana needs a win and if she can't get it, then let her do what she does best then Kana will be living life her way.
Bringing out the best in the supporting cast is not selfish. Sheera is correct in saying both things can be true at the same time.
It's easier for one person to slow down and match the pace of everyone else than for others to speed up and match the best person pace
I swear, those episodes are getting shorter and shorter.
Kid Kanna was a menace
Kana was her Canon event 😅
The show is making the point that Kana's way of acting is not true to herself. Thus it will lead to a good play but not an amazing play.
Kana is afraid of risk but taking risks can elevate the play even beyond what the writers thought it could be.
4:06 .....I HATE YOU SOOOOOO MUCH ROSHI!!! 🤣
It's really unfortunate that so many people dropped this anime. Despite its phenomenal animation, storyline, and direction, Season 2 hasn't generated the same hype as Season 1. This is especially surprising given that there aren't any other major shonen series airing right now. After the first episode of Season 1, excitement was high, but when the real story started unfolding around the 3rd or 4th episode-focusing more on the drama within the Japanese entertainment industry-many viewers lost interest and dropped the show.
yeah, it makes me so sad to see how low the views are for reactions to this season, because I think it's been absolutely incredible
I think it's bcz how the manga going right now ( manga kind of meh right now also .... incest thingy )
Instead of stepping back and elevating a performance. Kana should have stepped forward and elevated it.
About what's "right" as the Director put it she doesn't what any director might want the most, but that doesn't mean that a performance of two stars fighting each other wouldn't be just as interesting for the audience.
Roshi and i have same take always and i always against sheera take 😂😂😂
sun
Real Roshi no ko moment right there
Whats the piano song at 10:40
Akane gotta be the only girl ok with you complementing another girl infront of her and agree with you
She a keeper
Well yeah, didn’t you see the flashback? If there’s anyone out there who is a Kana simp, it’s Akane lol
Broooo she was pouting!! It was not OK but she seems forgiving as long as it's about Kana
Sheera's right
Damn. How dirty was that floor? Akane's hat looks like it went through it.
--Still recommending you watch Mo Dao Zu Shi--
Damn skipping over the boy who would turn out to be your boyfriend in the future😆
I wonder if they're ever gonna react to rwby 🤔🤔🤔
Yo
Good for the play yes, but Kana's acting choices are horrible for her career. Her acting doesn't even scream, but whispers, "I'm a supporting actor. That's all I'll ever be good for." If she was the MCU Black Widow, then forget being released late, that movie would've never even gotten made. Her current acting is only telling producers and directors that she is a great SUPPORTING actor, but she isn't strong enough to lead her own project. She's typecast as the plucky sidekick for the rest of her life
Akane is in the wrong profession ngl.
gays when are we gonna see Doctor corpse scene ?
The edits???????
