In regards to Jayden's best throw that the receiver couldn't come down with it, I think Marcus is referring to the throw to Noah Brown. Most people (at least beat reporters who do podcasts) thought that was Jayden's best throw and he was rolling right and hit Noah on the sideline so it fits Marcus's description. Noah caught the ball, but the play was called back on a hold (I think Biadasz, but don't quote me on that). There were probably four legit drops (Ertz, McCaffrey, Dyami Brown, and OZ), plus a couple poorly thrown balls that were still catchable (McLaurin, OZ, and Noah Brown). I thought that was arguably Jayden's worst game in terms of accuracy. He had a handful of passes he just missed, plus a couple more poorly thrown balls that were catchable but tough catches. That said his decision making was probably an A, so it ended up being a solid overall performance, but if Jayden is more accurate and the drops are cleaned up, it could have been a big day for the passing game. Some of the accuracy issues probably can be credited to the Steelers as they rush with a lot of discipline so Jayden was throwing from collapsing pockets. Last year the Commanders had Sweat, Allen, Payne, and Young, which piece by piece talent wise is probably about even with this Steelers D-Line but the coaching couldn't get the buy in and efficiency of what the Steelers pass rush with. What is impressive with the Steelers is despite having at least three "1"s in Watt, Heyward, and Highsmith but they rush as a unit to play contain. They don't lose contain to try to get a quick pass rush win. The problem with going for a quick pass rush win is if 3 guys are undisciplined and go for a quick win even if all 3 are successful you probably opened up a big run lane for the QB because maybe the DE goes wide and the DT lined up next them to them tries to go inside. The Steelers have the stars but they don't play with egos. When the Commanders had that awesome D-Line they didn't play disciplined so the results never added up to the individual pieces.
The Steelers also brought 19 five man pressures which is their highest number all year. The Steelers loaded the box, which against other teams means outside screens because there are less defenders outside near the numbers, but because the Steelers play tight man defense and don't give much of a cushion presnap they still took away those easy passes which is part of the Commanders bread and butter. All that said, its impossible for the defense to take away everything against a good QB and if Jayden is just slightly more accurate or the receivers cut the drops from like 4 to 2, Commanders could have won that game.
Brandon Coleman had some struggles against Highsmith. He gave up a sack on a play that was nullified by a defensive hold in the secondary. Trent Scott (Cornelius Lucas is still hurt and Andrew Wylie was out too) got away with a hold that should have been a safety on the throw where Jayden missed McCaffrey on the deep crosser. Commanders also got away with a hold on a 41 yard fg that would have made it a 51 yard fg. Steelers had their own luck with the refs too as Najee Harris looked like he fumbled on the play he got injured on (though arguably on the Steelers actual fumble the RB's forward motion had been stopped--though I think the refs were justified in not blowing it dead because both teams were trying to push the pile and we have all seen that when those piles go foward into the endzone they call it a TD) and of course there was the spot on that 4th and 9 at the end of the game where I think it was correct that Ertz didn't make the line to gain, but the refs original spot of being like 3/4ths of a yard short was way off because if he didn't get it he didn't get it by like 6 inches.
In regards to Luke he has had a number of games where he has been open at points but because he is usually the third read he doesn't always get it. But the other thing about McCaffrey is he is a very willing blocker. Last week in the reaction video you wondered if the Commanders should have kept Jahan Dotson. He was a better route runner than McCaffrey but when they have McCaffrey in he is essentially a big slot. He is only 6'1 200 pounds but he plays bigger. He blocks on run plays and is part of the run game success. He blocks on the WR screens. He also chips the DE. Dotson was not that type player. He wasn't physical as a receiver if the DB got hands on him and he is not a much of a blocker. Because the Commanders were sliding help to Trent Scott in his matchup against TJ Watt, it meant less help for Brandon Coleman against Alex Highsmith, but they still did things like use the big slot (usually McCaffrey) to chip Highsmith on obvious passing downs. Kingsbury is generally pretty good about helping the O-Line. He is the opposite of Bieniemy who was a bit hesitant to use TE and slot and RB's to help the O-Line in fear that it will mess up the offense. Kingsbury very much will help the O-Line in any way he can and having a guy with a big slot tool set is one way to do that.

Don't give Mahomes credit for play strength shedding that tackle. That's one of the million plays where Mahomes would have been flat on his ass if defenders didn't have to worry about refs calling "full body weight" RTP penalties even when you get your hands out in front of you.
And Mahomes will get that call every time. No pics of 3 Cincy players getting facemasked at once and Joe Burrow saying "yeah, I'm used to not getting those". You sack Mahomes and they will just ignore you catching yourself with your hands like they'll ignore it like they ignore the Rams facemasking Darnold or blowing up Brees's receiver early.

If the Jags somehow land Ben Johnson (which is way more likely if Baalke gets canned), I think this team, if they draft well in 2025 and make some good signings, could be a Super Bowl contender imo. But that is kinda unlikely at this point.
And yes, Fire Doug, and Press, and Baalke, and even Nielsen at this point

I get him not knowing just how intense the rivalry is. Very few of us believe this season can be salvaged, imo I think 6 wins is the ceiling the team can reach which should still be a top ten pick. And some of the vets should go this offseason

  • @TristanBaxter-j3i
    @TristanBaxter-j3i 2 дня назад

For Washington it seemed like all the moves that they didn’t make in the offseason bit them in this game. Running with three WR4s as your back ups to Terry was stupid and it bit them in this game. Running with St Juste and whoever fills in that week at outside corner was stupid and it bit them. Not having better tackle depth bit them as they had a 3rd round rookie and another back up against Watt and Highsmith. They wrecked havoc all game along with heyward. Ertz playing over Sinnott when Ertz can’t seem to get any YAC bit them on their last offensive play. I really couldn’t believe that they didn’t spend more this offseason on real talent not bandaids when the only player they really had to retain on roster was Cosmi and they handled that already.

What does that even mean? Plus he's got everything wrong. That whole dialogue about what Russ is doing that Fields supposedly isn't is utter BS.
The former QBs who do the weekly assessments knew something was up. Pickens was dragging his feet on routes, a really stupid thing to do if you want the ball to be thrown to you. So they looked into it. What did they find?
      1) That Arthur Smith was reducing the # of snaps he played on & 2) to a one they only ever saw receivers drag their feet on routes when they *know* they won't be targeted. & how do you not target a receiver? Order them to not catch the ball even if it's thrown their way?
No, you *order the QB* to not throw to them. _All_ of this stopped the instant Russ was put in. So Arthur Smith _ordered_ Fields to not throw to their #1 receiver.
That's what we know about. What else has he done to make sure Fields would fail? Because even if causing Fields to fail wasn't the intention, telling him to not throw to even one receiver guarantees it. Put yourself in the QB's position in this circumstance.
You're going through your reads and _boom!_ There's an open receiver. You wind up to throw and...
You have to stop in case it's the receiver your play-caller ordered you to not throw to. I mean there's no guarantee that because he sees them open he can read their jersey # or see their face. Only Freiermouth's hair distinguishes only him from everyone else.
This wasn't happening weeks 2 & 3 & if anyone would remember, Fields still has what might be The Best Throw of the year week 2.
Then the Chragers game happened & for whatever reason, Smith started telling Fields to never throw long again. This is why they lost to the inured Cowboys secondary. This is why people noticed Fields failed to throw to open receivers. Only they mi-identified the reason why.
Fields doesn't fear throwing long or contested catches. Again, go look back at weeks 2 & 3. For whatever reason Smith ordered him to not do certain things & when you have the looming threat of being benched you obey commands.
None of this is me saying it. It's people who look in-depth into this saying it. Except pointing out how ordering a QB to not throw to receivers can't possibly work in the benign way people think it does. If you think you'll be punished for passing to A & you're not 100% certain the open receiver you're seeing isn't A, you'll hesitate. & in the NFL, that's all you have time for. You don't get to reset & throw after that. So this is all Smith's doing.

God Marcus, you just can't compliment New England, can you? Offensively, that is, like the offense is in much better shape than you want to give them credit for. They are ij much better shape than you thought they would be. No, they're not great yet, but they have a solid base, and AVP is developing Drake very well. Yea, Drake has some hiccups during the games, you some one else who does the same thing still to this day and you laud him as one of the best in the game
... Josh Allen. Now Drake isn't Josh Allen, but he could end up being that. I just don't understand why you have to constantly give Patriots backhanded compliments like "Drake is elevating this offense, but they'll still have a high draft pick." Like is that really necessary.
