We can run a list of talented artists that the industry effectively cancelled from that era. Nowadays artists bypass the industry altogether and stream directly to their audience or negotiate contracts without the label involved. I'd love to see a comeback with collaborations with different artists to appeal to a new audience. She says she's an alto but her range is incredible. She may have laid the blueprint for Mariah.
Love her music! Her personal life is a bit questionable though, as I wonder the reasons for her not being the custodial parent for either of her children who have grown into beautiful young adults. Shout out to Kadeem Hardison/Dwayne Wayne for raising their daughter, and to Kenny Lattimore for raising their son❤
