Very clean? Care to explain further? If you are referring to the shirts, the men were in the front lines only for a week and were cycled out for 2 weeks before they had to be back in line.
I love what you guys do and if lived closer would get involved. thanks for keeping this history alive as we've lost our last verterans the past few years. Only critique that other have mentioned as well.. looks to perfect - - blow those trenches up and then put them back together.... (honestly )- get an expert and some dynamite - clear out - blow a few big hole and come back and patch it, up. Just an idea.
@TimbeMovies, At a reenactment we use coloured smoke to represent the different types of gas used. To that end when a gas call goes up we have to put on our masks.
@acmelka, Yes it looks 'perfect' but we built it to last not for just a couple of events. The terrain we dug it in is very hard on construction too. We've already had one wall cave in. So give it time and it will get that warn look.
Yes! Do a google on "Great War Association". There you'll find unit listings. You can contact German units and they can help you out get set up. Unfortunately I can't since I portray a Canadian soldier.
@Hellkiller74 French troops worn blue grey/pale blue uniforms, I'm not sure about the shirts. UK troops wear 'grey back' shirts. Which is what you see here. The site can get quite hot in April and to prevent heat issues troops often strip off wool tunics then put gear on over the grey back shirts.
They built trenches with what they had available. I've seen original photos of Allied trenches that had lots of corrigated metal. I've also seen photos of ones made exclusively of wood. Cost wise we didn't have the option of building with more wood. Pretty uniforms? Yes there is a "German side".
It's a passion for history. We wear wool uniforms. With the webbing fully loaded we're looking at 40 Ibs or more of kit. We reenact in all sorts of weather. Rain, cold, heat, you name it we were in it. It gives us a taste of what they went through. Not everyone can do it.
@WW2AirSofters We reside in the US and Canada. Our gun laws are different than in the UK. I recommend you look for a reenactment group in your country. Our "hit and kill" system is basically an honor system. If someone had a bead on you and you know it then take the hit.
Those aren't undershirts. They are just shirts. To answer your question though it was very hot and command told us that shirt sleeves were the order of the day. Much cooler!
Okay here's the situation. Everything in this world no matter what time in history it exists will start off as new. Our trench was built 3 years ago. The wood has already weathered gray. There's weeds growing all over the place. Believe me it's realistic in appearance.
@OrangeHarrisson i think their acting as French soldiers which would explain the blue shirts, now if their real undershirts then i have no clue. (Dont hold me to the French reasoning, it's been a while since I've looked up what a French soldier wore in WWI
Yes you are right they would have been digging for their lives under artillery fire. A lot of construction would have been done at night too. Unfortunately I know of no units in the UK. Sorry...
@killa123211 don't base your knowledge a few photos. I too have seen lots of photos of the front where the guys are all smiles and they are "relaxing". So you are basically condemning reenacting of all eras because people died in the actual wars? So why do we have movies and TV shows on historical dramas? They are basically reenacting what happened in the past where people have died. Based on your logic then we would have no movies or TV shows too.

I remember that! That gave us time to do some building on our trench. Did they rebuild that bunker?

I was there (on the German side). It was pretty warm that weekend. But a lot of fun, except for the time when the 20MG bunker caught fire.

did you guys have gasmasks and did there even come gas attacks?
Is there a particular reason why everybody is wearing undershirts?
@videoww2soldier98,
They are there. Unfortunately being on the Allied side I can only show Allied action.
Very well built

They aren't blue. They are grey linen shirts. These were typical of that time period.
Now hose it down with a lot of water
PA? That's not too far...
Need any more Germans?
The only thing else I would like to add to make it more realistic buch unffortunatly unprobably is flodding out the trenches...
well it looks a lot cleaner then what the real thing probably was like
