      Absolutely! Chevy needs to add an option of keeping front-engined cars, and mid-engined cars. Both as C9R1 (front-engined), and C9R2 (mid-engined)

    One of my all time favourites and has to be one of the coolest looking race cars ever built. I saw these at Le Mans in 2002 and let me tell you when you're sitting in the Tribunes opposite the pits and one of these goes past the ground shakes and you can 'feel' the racket in your chest. This has to be one of the loudest and deepest sounding race cars I've ever heard...utterly fabulous !

      I was there too. Loved the sound of it, and the Corvettes. As you say , Simon, you can feel it as well as hear it.

      Jon Meray. I witnessed top fuel at Santa Pod around 50 years ago. Impressive, but short!. The Panoz and Corvette for 24 hours is much better.

    Thank goodness there are people like this owner who continue to run and enjoy these cars. They allow the rest of us to see and hear them. On track, rather than just gather dust in private collections or museums. Good on this bloke for taking his car around the world to enjoy it.

    This LMP1 Panoz and the TVR Speed 12 are my all time favourite race cars. Both are very similar and unusual, because of the front engine, and that is the reason, why looks both of them like a brutal, mechanical batmobile...really, really love that shape!

    • @Raptor3400
      @Raptor3400 4 года назад +2

      I agree with you. My cousin and I were there the first time it raced at Petit LeMan at Road Atlanta, and we looked at each other and said "Batmobile!" What a classic race car.

      What was his obsession with front engine cars. I’ve seen the GT1 panoz and it’s also front engine. Isn’t front engine a disadvantage in racing?

    • @WMUCarGuy
      @WMUCarGuy 7 месяцев назад

      He sells front engined road cars, so he wanted his race cars to have the same setup. Panoz will admit to being somewhat ignorant to the sport when he first started, but really, if you have an engine mounted in front of the driver, but behind the front wheel axles, the car can be set up to handle very similarly to a traditional 'mid engined' car.@@javiersilva1577

    Yes!!! Amazing car! Preferred it as the GTR1 in 1998 spec but the lmp1 was amazing...especially as it went up against, and beat the mighty Audi R8. Incredible achievement (and not to forget its a british built Reynard chassis)

    I was at Le Mans '99. All the cars came through with mid-range screaming engines and then the Panoz would come through - all bass and anger. It was ace. We nicknamed it the Batmobile.

    I saw these run in person at few times at Road Atlanta, I also got to do one lap in the passenger seat of the Esperante GT-R in Raod Atlanta that same race weekend. They were selling hot seat tickets with the VIP passes for the Petit Le Mans so I grabbed the opportunity. This was back in 2003. I also saw them run at the one and only race held at the D.C. armory for the 2002 AMLS season. This was such a fantastic car to be the ambassador of the AMLS series.

    Went year after year with a group of mates to Le Mans and we cheered this car on we just loved it , the look and the sound of it and you could always tell when it was on track whilst we were on the ale on the camp site during practice, as Simon said it just had this sound that hit you in the guts. Great to see this clip look after that beast.

    The LMP is brutal beauty. But the Batmobile is as vicious as magnificent can get. I saw David Brabham race the roadster up close and personal at Trois-Rivières. In the later red livery but, alas, quite unsuccessful still against the Audi R8s. One of the highlights of a long, long life. (As was Donahue and Jones and all the legendary rest at the Bryar Motorsport Park Trans Am.)
