Roussel's 3rd Symphony is one of the truly good things in life, but I had never quite understood it until I heard this recording. Then my ears were opened!
In my opinion, one of the best symphonic scores of the French school between WW1 and 2, with works of Ravel and Honegger. For sure a highlight in Roussel's output.
Thanks for highlighting his work with the second oldest orchestra in the US (after the NY Philharmonic). It's great to have a conductor of Denève's caliber there. I just read that his SLSO contract has renewed until 2026. Fantastic news!

Stephane Deneve conducted this "fun" symphony last night with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. It's probably not performed often enough.
