Thank you for another great podcast. I have a suggestion for your yarn. I used to use zippered plastic bags, then I saw a friend opening a box with Crown Royal. Each bottle is in a draw string bag inside the box. The bags are different sizes to correlate with the different size bottles. I asked a friend who owns a bar to save the bags. Now I use them as yarn ball bags. I love them. They work great for center pulling - which is what I do. Best of all, I got them free!!!!

Totally agree that learning brioche is much easier with two colors. Just finished the brioche section of Shawlography and was successful because I was able to read my stitches more easily because of the two colors. I knew how to do brioche, but could not correct mistakes. Now I can because of the two colors making it possible to see which color stitch dropped. 🎶Thanks for The Beauty and The Beast song highlight. 🎵. I feel like “the girl who has everything” 🎶when it comes to knitting supplies. Until the next great tool or yarn I didn’t know about surfaces! 😂. Can’t wait for the shop update guys! 💕

**The best advice I've found for making socks fit a higher instep.** Just before starting the heel, increase the number of stitches to the next size up, work the heel for that larger size, then decrease again to work the foot/leg. Toe-up or cuff-down, it works every time! Magic, lol.
The movie Externals was good. Also the new Mary Poppins is a nice fun watch. Murder in the Building is a good series. I will adopt FINISH as well. Thanks for the idea. Love those hats! Glad the smell is returning. Thanks for another fun watch. Be well.

Just started the Harkness series. I was able to find the first book in the online library (Internet Archive) which is so cool. I'm a library buff but hunkered down. Started watched Series 1 but have stopped until I catch up on the reading. Binge watching NATR and I'm itching for some of that beautiful yarn but fixed income and I have more than hobbies than just crocheting. Thanks guys--you bring it all--knitting et al.

Hi Kevin and Ray! Hello from Westchester! I'm so happy to see your podcast pop up. Sitting here by the fire working on my Nordiska in Rauma Finullgarn which is completely amazing. Couple more rows before the colorwork! It seems huge but my gauge is fine. Oh well, fingers crossed. Hope I can finish in time for episode 4. PS: I clean my needles with rubbing alcohol when they get sticky. Sometimes Ciaogoo are sticky right out of the case.
5 years ago I was introduced to Dot's pretzels by a co-worker, and when anyone would bring in a bag to share there would be groans that the food crack was in the house. They can be additive and before you know it the bag is empty; had to divide the big bag into snack size bags to make them last longer because there was only one place in town to buy them. So, enjoy your new snack!
Somehow I just can’t stop myself from sharing another moment of language nerdery - I just love this stuff so much! In Norwegian and Swedish, the “A” with the little circle on top is pronounced like “O.” So Årsringar would be like “Oar-shring-gahr.” År = year ring = ring Add the “s” for possessive and the “ar” for plural, and you have Årsringar, “year rings,” or the annual growth rings you find in trees.
Love all the projects and yarn. I read the Iron Druid and I do believe you will get introduced to South American Gods. It is one of the better Urban Fantasy books. Junkyard Druid is a good series to read as well. I enjoyed the Dresden Files (Warlock series) too.
Kevin ..Norwegian knitting is so easy if you just take your time learning it. I was an English knitter or thrower but I had to learn a different way due to shoulder issues. I watched Arne & Carlos to learn this. I thought I would never get the purl but now it all comes really easy. It’s great, I am a faster knitter. Great show guys.
To close that hole at the top of your Jared Flood hat, I know the yarn you used is prone to breaking... so use a short length of something stronger. Just run it thru the sts at the closing with a yarn needle. Pull tight, weave, etc. I do that when I'm afraid to pull tightly on a non-superwash or delicate yarn.
Kevin, that Jasper (maybe) colorway is gorgeous! I knit Andrea Mowry's tinsel mitts for a friend for Christmas and there are three different options in one pattern, fingerless, mittens, and convertible mittens. It was my first time knitting anything mitten like and they came out well. I'm planning to knit the pattern again for myself, so I would definitely recommend the pattern.
Omg Kevin, the Rhubarb colorway...It's not my kind of color to wear but I think you really nailed it. It makes me wanna eat rhubarb pie or rhubarb jam. Yum! The colors fit perfectly with the name. Also the one with a lot of pink makes me think of some Duncan Hines cake mix with pink in it. I don't know if they still make those.
With it being so cold here in the Northeast, throw a bunch of garments and yarn in the trunk of your car for a few days to kill any moths and larvae. City Tweed is my favorite yarn--It is so warm and beautiful. I've made a sweater, several pairs of Suzie Rogers' Reading Mitts, a scarf, several Clapotis caps... Probably, I'll also use it for several Woodland Loafers... And, Kevin... Your colorways are gorgeous! I see a bunch of my colors in there! Hopefully, I can get home by six next week... I thought this is where I heard about the Sock Architecture book a while back...
Watching and listening to you two has been the best tonic for me as I get over this horrid covid virus. Thank you! Oh and I have just finished The Christmas Pig by JK Rowling which I think you will both love, so imaginative and such a great message of love, hope and forgiveness. Kevin, Yeah most of those dyed skeins I loved. Just 3 of them was alright to me- holly jolly, yellow grass peak, and jasper. Most of the time I enjoy your blend style of colors for dying. I enjoyed. I got to see that special of Harry Potter. Next time. HAPPY NEW SEASON!
Kevin, I have been using this tip from Sox Therapist, it's on page 9 of the Fish Lips Kiss pattern,( I also have problems with sock fit because of high arches)before I start working the heel I add 6 stitches,spaced out evenly over the row(on size 1 needles with fingering weight yarn), then start the heel. It works on any heel, I have had good luck with it, I hope it helps. Love the yarn, I hope I can get some in the shop update. Take care and stay safe
Hi Dee, thank you so much for that suggestion, I will give that a try. I normally don’t have much of an issue with a heel flap and gusset, but with a fish lips or afterthought I have that issue.
Ray! That’s such an interesting point about doing brioche in non-superwash so that can spit-splice as a possible tool for correcting mistakes! I’m eyeing my first brioche project. I had super wash for it, but I’m going to switch yarn.
Another fabulous episode! I would highly recommend the Crunkled Socks pattern by Kay Jones. I knit the entire pair this weekend and I just cast on a second pair. I did the shadow wrap heel and added a strand of mohair to the heel and toe color. Such a fun pattern
I use sheer organza bags to separate skeins in my project bags so they don’t tangle with each other or if the yarn is in a cake I put it in a yarn cozy.

Make sure you sandpaper the cedar blocks so there is a definite cedar smell which is what moths don't like. the damage to wool is by the larva in eggs the tiny moths lay.
Yes, in love with Norwegian purling.... so much easier on my hands. Watched arne and Carlos video where Carlos teaches it. I'm a continental knitter because I primarily crochet.
Yay! It's podcast day. My favorite cast on for socks is the Estonian cast on. It's stretchy and interesting looking. The instep issue is why I stick with a heel-flap and gusset for my socks for myself. I need a 3 inch heel flap to fit over my instep, then decrease every other row for half the picked up stitches, then every row till I'm back to my starting count. Works really well for my large instep/high arch, but relatively narrow circumference.
I am also really tired of this cold weather. Just a tad colder than you at -35 C. But the last couple of days has been a little warmer, about +10 C. I happen you weather gets warmer.
@@NeedlesattheReadyPodcast at the end of every needle and beginning of every needle I had to make sure it was right before I could continue. I ended up scavenging a circular from another project.
I dyed some wool with left over dyes from some wool I'd done for a sweater: mainly blued steel but with a little sour apple. We did the dyeing as a bit of a spontaneous fun thing after several vodkas on my son's birthday haha. The wool came out fantastic (now have to try to remember what I did to replicate it!) The wool has been christened 'Vodka Sock' after the manner of its creation....but the funniest thing is - my teetotal old dad saw the wool and requested socks (not knowing the back story...which we haven't shared). The kids think it's hilarious that grandad will be sporting 'vodka socks' 😆😆😆

I have now discovered Portuguese knitting! This will be my new go to purling method for large areas, and I’ll stick to my Norwegian purl for small areas and ribbing 😁.
For the mug question, I have no clue where is a good place to sell them, but if you can put the logo on BOTH sides of the mug, then those of us who are left-handed can enjoy seeing it while we drink our tea/coffee/blood of enemies/whatever.

**The best advice I've found for making socks fit a higher instep.** Just before starting the heel, increase the number of stitches to the next size up, work the heel for that larger size, then decrease again to work the foot/leg. Toe-up or cuff-down, it works every time! Magic, lol.

Just started the Harkness series. I was able to find the first book in the online library (Internet Archive) which is so cool. I'm a library buff but hunkered down. Started watched Series 1 but have stopped until I catch up on the reading. Binge watching NATR and I'm itching for some of that beautiful yarn but fixed income and I have more than hobbies than just crocheting. Thanks guys--you bring it all--knitting et al.

Hi Kevin and Ray! Hello from Westchester! I'm so happy to see your podcast pop up. Sitting here by the fire working on my Nordiska in Rauma Finullgarn which is completely amazing. Couple more rows before the colorwork! It seems huge but my gauge is fine. Oh well, fingers crossed. Hope I can finish in time for episode 4. PS: I clean my needles with rubbing alcohol when they get sticky. Sometimes Ciaogoo are sticky right out of the case.

5 years ago I was introduced to Dot's pretzels by a co-worker, and when anyone would bring in a bag to share there would be groans that the food crack was in the house. They can be additive and before you know it the bag is empty; had to divide the big bag into snack size bags to make them last longer because there was only one place in town to buy them. So, enjoy your new snack!

Love all the projects and yarn. I read the Iron Druid and I do believe you will get introduced to South American Gods. It is one of the better Urban Fantasy books. Junkyard Druid is a good series to read as well. I enjoyed the Dresden Files (Warlock series) too.
Kevin ..Norwegian knitting is so easy if you just take your time learning it. I was an English knitter or thrower but I had to learn a different way due to shoulder issues. I watched Arne & Carlos to learn this. I thought I would never get the purl but now it all comes really easy. It’s great, I am a faster knitter. Great show guys.

To close that hole at the top of your Jared Flood hat, I know the yarn you used is prone to breaking... so use a short length of something stronger. Just run it thru the sts at the closing with a yarn needle. Pull tight, weave, etc. I do that when I'm afraid to pull tightly on a non-superwash or delicate yarn.

I knit Andrea Mowry's tinsel mitts for a friend for Christmas and there are three different options in one pattern, fingerless, mittens, and convertible mittens. It was my first time knitting anything mitten like and they came out well. I'm planning to knit the pattern again for myself, so I would definitely recommend the pattern.

Omg Kevin, the Rhubarb colorway...It's not my kind of color to wear but I think you really nailed it. It makes me wanna eat rhubarb pie or rhubarb jam. Yum! The colors fit perfectly with the name.
Also the one with a lot of pink makes me think of some Duncan Hines cake mix with pink in it. I don't know if they still make those.

With it being so cold here in the Northeast, throw a bunch of garments and yarn in the trunk of your car for a few days to kill any moths and larvae. City Tweed is my favorite yarn--It is so warm and beautiful. I've made a sweater, several pairs of Suzie Rogers' Reading Mitts, a scarf, several Clapotis caps... Probably, I'll also use it for several Woodland Loafers... And, Kevin... Your colorways are gorgeous! I see a bunch of my colors in there! Hopefully, I can get home by six next week... I thought this is where I heard about the Sock Architecture book a while back...

Kevin, Yeah most of those dyed skeins I loved. Just 3 of them was alright to me- holly jolly, yellow grass peak, and jasper. Most of the time I enjoy your blend style of colors for dying. I enjoyed. I got to see that special of Harry Potter. Next time. HAPPY NEW SEASON!
Kevin, I have been using this tip from Sox Therapist, it's on page 9 of the Fish Lips Kiss pattern,( I also have problems with sock fit because of high arches)before I start working the heel I add 6 stitches,spaced out evenly over the row(on size 1 needles with fingering weight yarn), then start the heel. It works on any heel, I have had good luck with it, I hope it helps.

Ray! That’s such an interesting point about doing brioche in non-superwash so that can spit-splice as a possible tool for correcting mistakes! I’m eyeing my first brioche project. I had super wash for it, but I’m going to switch yarn.
Doing that hat in non-super wash was a life saver.

Another fabulous episode! I would highly recommend the Crunkled Socks pattern by Kay Jones. I knit the entire pair this weekend and I just cast on a second pair. I did the shadow wrap heel and added a strand of mohair to the heel and toe color. Such a fun pattern

I use sheer organza bags to separate skeins in my project bags so they don’t tangle with each other or if the yarn is in a cake I put it in a yarn cozy.

Make sure you sandpaper the cedar blocks so there is a definite cedar smell which is what moths don't like. the damage to wool is by the larva in eggs the tiny moths lay.

Norwegian purling is very interesting looking, I watched the Very Pink Knits tutorial, she described it as a dance, it looks really cool.
Yay! It's podcast day. My favorite cast on for socks is the Estonian cast on. It's stretchy and interesting looking. The instep issue is why I stick with a heel-flap and gusset for my socks for myself. I need a 3 inch heel flap to fit over my instep, then decrease every other row for half the picked up stitches, then every row till I'm back to my starting count. Works really well for my large instep/high arch, but relatively narrow circumference.

I dyed some wool with left over dyes from some wool I'd done for a sweater: mainly blued steel but with a little sour apple. We did the dyeing as a bit of a spontaneous fun thing after several vodkas on my son's birthday haha. The wool came out fantastic (now have to try to remember what I did to replicate it!) The wool has been christened 'Vodka Sock' after the manner of its creation....but the funniest thing is - my teetotal old dad saw the wool and requested socks (not knowing the back story...which we haven't shared). The kids think it's hilarious that grandad will be sporting 'vodka socks' 😆😆😆
