Horford being this effective at his age has me beside myself. I mean my ankles and knees hurt and he’s got years on me… What an incredible athlete.
It would be even more impressive if LeBron wasn't a thing lol
@@johncolomb8173your mindset is trash
Luka was 1-8 against him in this game. That is pretty great for a 38 year-old big man. If it was not for Lebron still being in the leauge, he would get more attention for what he is doing.

This might be the best game recap I’ve ever seen.
Even if you didn’t watch the game you could watch this and in only 20 minutes know exactly what happened.
Thank you - saved me some typing.
Bro same!!! This is the best analysis I’ve ever seen
Right on,I think I see the game recap by far on yt and this was my 2nd video on a game 1 recap.
You're correct about "best recap"; I don't think this will be a sweep Kidd.needs to study how Mavs reduced deficit to 8. Kyrie needs to make shots, Lively can't foul out, Lively. Gafford & every role player need to offensively contribute. Aedin
As mentioned, a big issue for the Mavs was their inability to get points off supposedly weaker Celtics defenders. Luka got nothing out of Hauser when he tried to iso him; Pritchard got through the game fine as well. If the Celtics are confident their reserves can hold up, then they can give their starters more time to rest, while the Mavs will have no choice but to play Luka and Kyrie till they get fatigued.
True but that definitly won't last throughout the series. Will be interested to see how the adjustments go further in the series. It really all just comes down to if the mavs can figure out something on the defensive end
@jda8557 id argue it's the offensive end they need. They held us to 107 which is good (albeit the starters were taken out early) while they only had 89. That's a much bigger issue in today's NBA, but if Kyrie would have hit a shot it would've been a bit different as well so maybe it will become defense they need
Teams have been trying to iso Hauser the whole season and mostly failing. He is not a great defender, but he is also not a bad one.
True but Boston never leaves those guys on an island. Dallas plays three non shooters so it's really easy to plug the gaps and essentially force them into jumpers which is what happened. Jrue, White and Tatum don't fake stunt or token stunt. They actually make Luka pick up the ball.
It's part of why the Minnesota series was so odd because the scenario decisions they made were so bizarre. But people thought it was Dallas. (And it's not not but Minnesota did pretty much everything wrong. Truly baffling.)
But OKC held down Dallas' offense. They just couldn't score enough either. And Boston is just a better OKC on both ends
But if rounds 1 and 2 are any indication Dallas will go to their off ball game now and mothball the heavy heavy PnR
Hauser is on his opponent's shooting hand as a defender most of the time. Both him and Prichard are underrated as defenders by the national press.
There is very little respect in this world for Al Horford's game, man. Al is 13 yrs older than Luka, held him to one or two buckets, got at least one block on him; Horford is a stud, especially when he doesnt have to play 37 minutes.
Edit: several helpful people have pointed out that when I wrote Al was 16 years older, I was mistaken - Luka is no longer 22, but 25. Al is 'only' 38. So, 13 years older.
Horford is a legend and the Celtics would be nowhere without him
Ain't no way Al is 16 years older than Luka, that boy is literally 25 nearing the turn to 26 and I'll be the first to tell you that Al isn't 40 years old
Lets be real as good as Horford is, this is probably the worst FG pct you will see from Luka and Khyrie.....get the salt and pepper he will get cooked the next 2 or 3 games. They have the advantage cause part of the game was free for all and no calls. The game was as close as 8 at one point so it was not a blowout all game.
@rahd27 dude put away the fentanayl and turn espn off. It's over and these kids are defeated
This whole Celtics team is so selfless.😊 Great team.
One of the best break downs I've ever seen. Great work. Thank you for not showing the same plays over and over.
100000%
The Celtics are a threat through their whole lineup. It’s gonna be tuff on the mavs coz the Celtics are like a lowkey superteam. Let’s see how they adjust in game 2. Great breakdown
They are a super team they have at least 4 top 4 picks in Jayson Tatum, jaylen brown, porzingis, and al horford 😂 and then they got good ass defensive guards
This is a super team
@@jvysupreme23how u gon say al horford make us a super team he’s 38 😂 I’ve never seen a super team w just 2 all stars and 1 all nba guy tho, when we were pushing for KP and DWhite for all star everyone clowned us

@@KAye633A deep roster sure but not a super team. A super team is like if every member of the team can be a franchise player. Think of Heatles 2013 or Big 4 celtics
The Celtics' defense went as planned, preventing the Mavs from hitting corner three and preventing alley-oops from the rim. Also, it was surprising that Horford, who I thought would be targeted by Luka, held him to 1-8. He even blocked the step back three.
Horford isn’t bad at defending players in space who aren’t quick
I'm not sure they prevented the Mavs' 3s any more than Mavs just can't make an open 3.
@@ThreeEyedJuanthey only attempted 3 corners threes, and didn't make one until the last minute of the game.
Luka so trash always getting the switch on a center or slow PF lol now theres not weak players on the Celtics dude hate playing aging far superior athlete than him cuz he can take advantage but luka suppose to be some generational talent
Great notes thanjs
Mavs 1-13 with horford as primary defender is crazy
Nope horford is still better than most nba centres
@mrawesome7175 Horford would be any other top contenders best role player. He is the Celtics 6th best player.
Pj Washington playing like he trying to get his child support payments down
😂😂😂😂😂😂
The thing with the Celtics is 1-5 can protect the rim so there conforable switching any action and the difference with this Boston team is everybody starting with the exception of Derick White in the starting 5 can play from the post
So when you add that with a team on average shooting 38% from 3 on absurdly high volume with all 8 rotation players hitting 100 or more 3 pointers you see the issue
They all can play defense and they all can score, Dallas is doomed.
@@altejada7888 Facts. It's a mismatch
every time i watch you're vids i feel myself gaining more basket ball knowledge.

Its just crazy how some people are surprised that Dallas got molly whopped in game 1 The Cs haven't lost to Dallas in 2 seasons and beat them by 28 in March. Just because they play in the east doesn't mean they arent good. They had 30 wins by at least 15 and 19 wins by 20 or more. That being said they can have a bad game and the way Luka and Kyrie score it could be a real test. I still say Cs in 6 just because this is a different Cs team. Really love this content. Very high quality and can clearly be seen that there’s a lot of work put into it. Keep up the good work man👍
Mavs looked completely unprepared for dealing with the unicorn. But the problem is, game planning for him is a losing strategy, because tatum is capable of going crazy if they stop dedicating 2 defenders to him. Mavs were clearly focused on turning tatum into a playmaker...and he was happy to oblige.
But it probably still is their best approach. Porzingis and the others could just have a bad shooting night. Tatum is literally unguardable when he gets hot, and can easily drop 40+
Doubling Tatum was the best strategy when Smart and Robert Williams were on the court. It doesn’t work with this starting 5 anymore. All of them can shoot and even the players off the bench

Man... You broke it down so well. It was like a surgeon with a scalpel. Great job.
Let’s be honest, when Boston is hitting shots they are unbeatable. This roster has so much talent it is ridiculous but when they’re hitting shots and locking down on defense they look like one of the best teams in recent nba history. There’s just nothing you can really do other than bait them into challenging shots and praying they miss

I've seen the Celts win by over 50 twice this season. When they have it going like you described, it really is crazy. They lock you down on defense so you just CAN'T score, and then they come down on offense and all 5 guys are hitting 3's and the lead just gets larger and larger. The Celts can be beaten. But Dallas better bring a ton more defense and shot making in Game 2 or it's going to get ugly for them.

they have so many floor spacers and a players that can create for themselves unlike minnesota
Just as importantly all of Boston’s players understand HOW to space.
Watching Minnesota was so frustrating because every play it felt like 1-2 guys were in the wrong spot so they essentially allowed Dallas to be able to get in gaps *and* easily recover to the pass
Boston doesn’t do that. If you want to slide into the gap the next guy _will_ have an open three or driving lane because the spacing is pristine

W breakdown
There is some space for improvement for mavs. Ofc they have to find ways to defend the pick and roll without switching when Luka is involved (possible going over the screen), elbow guards (especially PJW and DJJ) have to stop roaming when they failed to help against the drive when D collapses, by moving to cover in between the wing and break 3 instead of just watching the D collapsing. Imho 2 bigs is necessary (this will kill spacing tho) one for KP and one for drop coverage, but that means more work for Luka and Kyrie, when Klieber isn't playing, even with a injured shoulder (because Gafford and Lively can't create space). Probably they have to pressure more the ball handler giving less space, because they are committing 2 helpers for a potential drive with box defense, or just have only the elbow one for help. And finally they have to let Tatum cook a little, putting 4 guys on him doesn't work against the Celtics.
Honesty tho, there isn't much that they can do defensively to force Cs to change their approach drastically (especially if Luka keeps guarding with his eyes only), and the bigger change we are going to see is better FG% and 3PT% by Dallas.
This is an unbiased opinion of mine, even tho I'm rooting for Cs to win, nothing personal imho this is the better team.
Hoop venue I felt like Luka fell in the harden warriors iso trap just playing one on one against elite defender he is eventually is getting wore down down in the 4 quarter and on defense just like harden in those warriors series
Great video! Recency bias would’ve had you believe that it would be a walk in the park for Dallas but this game disproved that. Both teams wanted it in this game you could tell. One of the biggest problems that the Mavs have is that they don’t have as much firepower as the Celtics. The Mavs need Kyrie to perform better in these next few games if they want to have a chance against the Celtics (not discrediting the other players for Dal, this is still a very tough line up). This finals series is going to be exciting
talking about recency bias and then applying most recent recency bias there is 😂
@ajvhan nothing he said was recency bias. The celtics have had more firepower than dallas since the start of the season
You've got to be one of the few youtubers/talking heads on tv who have actually watched the C's play before this game, so many people were surprised to see us have Tatum guard the center and look to let Luka play 1 on 1. I expect the Mavs to make some adjustments and make some games closer but the margin of error the mavs can make is shrinking each game they fall behind
Mind u the Celtics played badly themselves and still won by 18 lol yea this shit is a sweep 🧹 if I ever saw one

As much as I like your break down and as on point it is... bringing the fans into things more indepth, let's hold off on doing more till after the series. Because the mavs staff sees this too and they don't need extra help beating us lol
Tatum didn’t do nothing to adopt anything
The thing is, all the Celtics really need to do is tire out Luka because this mav team is not deep enough which allows the Celtics to take advantage of their depth.

If Celtics live with Luka and Kyrie iso, Mavs should let Derrick Jones dribble up the floor. This can generate triple threat position for Luka and Kyrie closer to the rim, save energy and generate better looks. At least game they can hang with the Celtics this way
That's what they started doing in the third - Brown chased Luka off the ball, picking him early and running him ragged. But I dont think the Mavs will be able to start a game that way, that's so much time without Luka touching the ball, and they operate real weird when he isnt - I'm also not sure any of the other Mavs ball handlers can get the rock up the floor against completely fresh Boston legs.

Horford can easily move into the 4 when KP is on the court. Didn't see the Mavs bigs playing that much (or that well) when both are on the floor.
First game ive watched since Feb 2020 and i dont see what the big deal about Luka is and also Porzingis is awesome
when did they start allowing hand checking again i saw dort doing it and mcdaniel and now they let brown do it - is it only for luka ?
They never call that stuff tbh. Same with carrying.
I mean, they let everyone do it - watch Tatum getting pushed and chopped all night. Or, like, watch that replay of Brown splitting two and jamming, every single Mavs guy in that play fouls him; there are missed calls every single moment of an NBA game, and there are calls that guys arent going to get every time, bc no one wants to watch that. Luka likes to initiate contact, so he also has to take some - same with Tatum. They both make finishing with contact a huge part of their packages, and so refs call them accordingly. If you run into guys every trip down the court, the refs arent going to give you the ticky-tack stuff.
And both of them get in trouble with the refs, whining about the calls they believe they should be getting.
Lmao it’s the playoffs ain’t no ticky tack bullshit
Luka is an amazing, generational player, but he takes some truly bad shots from 3. I know he's a step back master, but those misses on those shots create transition opportunities for the Celtics which is where they are deadly.
One of the very solid games by Celtics I still wonder how Pacers beat them during the regular or may be Celtics weren't serious during old games...
Indiana was inexperienced in crunch time and they showed it lol
Another point of contention: Payton Pritchard did not hit a shot in this game. And he had some open looks so that means that if it continues like that he will punish them
Most objective recap i ever seen. Most channel just said about Mavs have spirit. Spirit will defeat stats. I agree. But you need to elaborate

Oh it’s definitely over for the mavs
I forgot porz and luka rumored had a beef . No wonder why porz came in flaming
the only difference really is that the celtics are way more phisical. Maybe beyond the limit but ok its the finals I guess
The Mavs missed shots they probably would normally hit, but so did Tatum and Pritchard. If either Tatum or Pritchard was at an average shooting percentage in this game, the C's would've scored another 10 points.
I've seen a lot of postgame reacts to game one of the NBA finals, but one thing that nobody seems to be mentioning about that game is how many open looks the Mavericks missed. I know everything is ifs and buts, but if the Mavericks even hit some of those shots that game is way closer than it would have been and that was one of the best games the Celtics played all postseason season long.
Ifs and buts, but JT didn't even score 20 in Game 1. JB with only 22. If one or both score 30+ that's something else to consider, even if the Mavs are hitting more of their open shots.
@@josephpercy1558 true you're not wrong. Both things can be right at the same time.

Tatum had an off game, so ...
Celtics won after a horrible shooting game from PJ and DjJR and Kyrie who all shot absolutely horrendously all game long. Also for those who watched the game there were two turnovers the mavs has made from travels when it was an 8 point game. and assuming they made a 2 instead of the turnover it wouldve been a 4 point game. Boston played excellently and almost flawlessly in the first half but came the third and they were basically praying their shots went in and the mavs stay dry. And the celtics prayers were answered.
To be honest this celtics team reminds me a lot of the 2018 harden lead rockets where jump shooting and threes was the number one strat and although it worked a lot for most of the season, it is not a good strategy come the fourth quarter and clutch moments because when those shots fall all game except the fourth the game is still a loss.
Overall I think the mavs forgot the paint was boston's achiles heal and was too focused on taking away the jumpers forgetting the fact that when the paint was taken away the dice rolling that is the boston jump shooting would be the difference maker.
What is defending home court? I always hear it but I’m not sure what it is
The Celtics are defending their home court in their arena in Boston. The next game will will be in mavs home court arena in Dallas. I hope this clears it up for you.
@@AbrahamSepulveda-ty3cogame 2 is Sunday in Boston
@JASON_574 Oh yeah, you're right. I forgot it's two games each, then they alternate. I appreciate you for correcting me.
Means you're playing at your home venue, probably sleeping in your own bed, working out in your gym, got your friends and family in the crowd, and most of the crowd is your fans. The opposing team is sleeping in a hotel, working out in someone else's gym, probably no one there to cheer you. It's generally considered to be a big advantage. And having the better record from the regular season determines who has more games at home out of a seven game series - team with the better record gets two games at home, then two away, home, away, then game seven is at home (if it gets that far).
In case you're not trolling, whenever the higher seeded team loses a home game they no longer have home court advantage. One way to look at the math is this: at the beginning of the series, if both teams win all their home games, highest seeded wins 4-3; if teams split first 2 games and after that both teams win all their remaining home games, lower seeded wins 4-2. Thus defending home court means, essentially, not losing at home.
its feast or famine on a Game by Game basis dependent of who won😂
