    As mentioned, a big issue for the Mavs was their inability to get points off supposedly weaker Celtics defenders. Luka got nothing out of Hauser when he tried to iso him; Pritchard got through the game fine as well. If the Celtics are confident their reserves can hold up, then they can give their starters more time to rest, while the Mavs will have no choice but to play Luka and Kyrie till they get fatigued.

    • @jda8557
      @jda8557 20 дней назад +6

      True but that definitly won't last throughout the series. Will be interested to see how the adjustments go further in the series. It really all just comes down to if the mavs can figure out something on the defensive end

    • @peterlenza8320
      @peterlenza8320 20 дней назад +9

      @jda8557 id argue it's the offensive end they need. They held us to 107 which is good (albeit the starters were taken out early) while they only had 89. That's a much bigger issue in today's NBA, but if Kyrie would have hit a shot it would've been a bit different as well so maybe it will become defense they need

    • @Jonteponte71
      @Jonteponte71 20 дней назад +10

      Teams have been trying to iso Hauser the whole season and mostly failing. He is not a great defender, but he is also not a bad one.

    • @michaelahurt
      @michaelahurt 20 дней назад +9

      True but Boston never leaves those guys on an island. Dallas plays three non shooters so it's really easy to plug the gaps and essentially force them into jumpers which is what happened. Jrue, White and Tatum don't fake stunt or token stunt. They actually make Luka pick up the ball.
      It's part of why the Minnesota series was so odd because the scenario decisions they made were so bizarre. But people thought it was Dallas. (And it's not not but Minnesota did pretty much everything wrong. Truly baffling.)
      But OKC held down Dallas' offense. They just couldn't score enough either. And Boston is just a better OKC on both ends
      But if rounds 1 and 2 are any indication Dallas will go to their off ball game now and mothball the heavy heavy PnR

    There is very little respect in this world for Al Horford's game, man. Al is 13 yrs older than Luka, held him to one or two buckets, got at least one block on him; Horford is a stud, especially when he doesnt have to play 37 minutes.
    Edit: several helpful people have pointed out that when I wrote Al was 16 years older, I was mistaken - Luka is no longer 22, but 25. Al is 'only' 38. So, 13 years older.

    Its just crazy how some people are surprised that Dallas got molly whopped in game 1 The Cs haven't lost to Dallas in 2 seasons and beat them by 28 in March. Just because they play in the east doesn't mean they arent good. They had 30 wins by at least 15 and 19 wins by 20 or more. That being said they can have a bad game and the way Luka and Kyrie score it could be a real test. I still say Cs in 6 just because this is a different Cs team. Mavs looked completely unprepared for dealing with the unicorn. But the problem is, game planning for him is a losing strategy, because tatum is capable of going crazy if they stop dedicating 2 defenders to him. Mavs were clearly focused on turning tatum into a playmaker...and he was happy to oblige.
    But it probably still is their best approach. Porzingis and the others could just have a bad shooting night. Tatum is literally unguardable when he gets hot, and can easily drop 40+

    There is some space for improvement for mavs. Ofc they have to find ways to defend the pick and roll without switching when Luka is involved (possible going over the screen), elbow guards (especially PJW and DJJ) have to stop roaming when they failed to help against the drive when D collapses, by moving to cover in between the wing and break 3 instead of just watching the D collapsing. Imho 2 bigs is necessary (this will kill spacing tho) one for KP and one for drop coverage, but that means more work for Luka and Kyrie, when Klieber isn't playing, even with a injured shoulder (because Gafford and Lively can't create space). Probably they have to pressure more the ball handler giving less space, because they are committing 2 helpers for a potential drive with box defense, or just have only the elbow one for help. And finally they have to let Tatum cook a little, putting 4 guys on him doesn't work against the Celtics.
    Honesty tho, there isn't much that they can do defensively to force Cs to change their approach drastically (especially if Luka keeps guarding with his eyes only), and the bigger change we are going to see is better FG% and 3PT% by Dallas.
    This is an unbiased opinion of mine, even tho I'm rooting for Cs to win, nothing personal imho this is the better team.

    Great video! Recency bias would’ve had you believe that it would be a walk in the park for Dallas but this game disproved that. Both teams wanted it in this game you could tell. One of the biggest problems that the Mavs have is that they don’t have as much firepower as the Celtics. The Mavs need Kyrie to perform better in these next few games if they want to have a chance against the Celtics (not discrediting the other players for Dal, this is still a very tough line up). This finals series is going to be exciting

      That's what they started doing in the third - Brown chased Luka off the ball, picking him early and running him ragged. But I dont think the Mavs will be able to start a game that way, that's so much time without Luka touching the ball, and they operate real weird when he isnt - I'm also not sure any of the other Mavs ball handlers can get the rock up the floor against completely fresh Boston legs.

      I mean, they let everyone do it - watch Tatum getting pushed and chopped all night. Or, like, watch that replay of Brown splitting two and jamming, every single Mavs guy in that play fouls him; there are missed calls every single moment of an NBA game, and there are calls that guys arent going to get every time, bc no one wants to watch that. Luka likes to initiate contact, so he also has to take some - same with Tatum. They both make finishing with contact a huge part of their packages, and so refs call them accordingly. If you run into guys every trip down the court, the refs arent going to give you the ticky-tack stuff.
      And both of them get in trouble with the refs, whining about the calls they believe they should be getting.

    Celtics won after a horrible shooting game from PJ and DjJR and Kyrie who all shot absolutely horrendously all game long. Also for those who watched the game there were two turnovers the mavs has made from travels when it was an 8 point game. and assuming they made a 2 instead of the turnover it wouldve been a 4 point game. Boston played excellently and almost flawlessly in the first half but came the third and they were basically praying their shots went in and the mavs stay dry. And the celtics prayers were answered.
    To be honest this celtics team reminds me a lot of the 2018 harden lead rockets where jump shooting and threes was the number one strat and although it worked a lot for most of the season, it is not a good strategy come the fourth quarter and clutch moments because when those shots fall all game except the fourth the game is still a loss.
    Overall I think the mavs forgot the paint was boston's achiles heal and was too focused on taking away the jumpers forgetting the fact that when the paint was taken away the dice rolling that is the boston jump shooting would be the difference maker.

      Means you're playing at your home venue, probably sleeping in your own bed, working out in your gym, got your friends and family in the crowd, and most of the crowd is your fans. The opposing team is sleeping in a hotel, working out in someone else's gym, probably no one there to cheer you. It's generally considered to be a big advantage. And having the better record from the regular season determines who has more games at home out of a seven game series - team with the better record gets two games at home, then two away, home, away, then game seven is at home (if it gets that far).

    • @maferreira1984
      @maferreira1984 20 дней назад +1

      In case you're not trolling, whenever the higher seeded team loses a home game they no longer have home court advantage. One way to look at the math is this: at the beginning of the series, if both teams win all their home games, highest seeded wins 4-3; if teams split first 2 games and after that both teams win all their remaining home games, lower seeded wins 4-2. Thus defending home court means, essentially, not losing at home.
