- Maningrida Malabam: Stories on the Songlines Part 11.
This is the eleventh video clip in a series featuring life in Maningrida, a town that is full of stories and songs.
The aim of this video project is to highlight the strengths of Maningrida, the largest coastal community in Arnhem Land.
There are many healthy & positive aspects to be found that counteract the negative mainstream media reports about Australia's indigenous communities...
Djelk Rangers
On patrol with Maningrida's Djelk Rangers across the mouth of Liverpool River & along the Arnhem Land coast.
The Djelk Rangers have a motto - 'Caring For Country'...
But that country is both Land & Sea! So when they are not scouring the bush to spray noxious weeds that have infested Arnhem Land or culling feral buffalo, they are patrolling the coast and river. The rangers monitor fish, turtles & dugong to ensure they don't get over-fished. They also keep an eye out for illegal fishing boats or refugee vessels from Indonesia, on behalf of Customs & Immigration.
