I think Stormworks helps feed the dopamine response of RL engineers with the fact that you can get results in minutes or seconds. In real engineering projects, you're working on something for days, months, or years at a time and you may never even get to look at the real thing you developed. Or, if you tweak the design, you're limited in what you can tweak or how often because it costs real life time and resources for people to go and fabricate your changes and assemble it, just to see if 'that little adjustment' worked.
Imagine the accountants at Lockheed if you wanted to tweak the F-22 every time it went up for a flight.
In Stormworks, you can build something, realize 'it needs a THING', go back, add the thing, realize the thing needs another thing, turn around and go put that other thing on... Go out and test it, realize a third thing doesn't do anything, rip it off, realize you now have space for a bunch of OTHER things...
And management isn't hanging from your leg begging you to 'please stop changing our product! Our finances can't take much more of this!'

Stormworks can cover every single genre of game in a weird sense, I had a game turn into a disaster drama/survival horror when I spent several ingame days trying to track down a fishing vessel that had caught on fire. A huge storm with massive waves had struck the boat, so other than the serious fuel tank fire, it was also capsizing. I couldn't find any of the survivors except for a single person that succumbed to their injuries in my vessel while I was searching for the 5 others. I attempted to search the entire thing, managed to extinguish the fire, I never found any of them. I think they all fell overboard but I couldn't find any lifesigns. Then the ship fully tipped over, leaving me stuck in the bottom of the interior, which was now the top. It was like that Poseidon movie but much, much scarier.

100% couldn't agree more! What's wild is that the actual gameplay is only one part of the game, as is the building, coding, etc. But within the gameplay, totally many ways things can end, usually for the worse :P Have to play it smart and even then things can still be disastrous!

❤ I totally agree. I was big into rpgs like kotor2 and dungeon seige. Then 15ish years ago I was introduced to a knockoff of minecraft. It changed my life forever. I have found nothing quite like stormworks. Space engineers and stationeers comes close but the insane customizability of stormworks blows me away. You can not only build what you wants but you can build so you can play how you want. Don't like easy push buttons from the seat. Get out and push a button at the item. That's how I play. I have to go to the back of the truck to disconnect a trailer and lower the landing gear..... you should see what I've done with the oil update lol. I'll shut up now. Subbed

    @connycontainer9459 7 месяцев назад +1

Have to say though it has become really hard for beginners to get into, which was easier maybe a year or two ago. I'm not an engineer and only dabbled with KSP back in the days, but that's ok. Little successes really mean the world in this game and keep you pushing. But - if you don't use workshop items and go for the classic campaign, with research and exploration, which for me is the only way to play, you might find yourself easily at a point of no return.
Coming back after a long break I started a new carreer and had to build everything from scratch and realized that the only refinery is not like it's used to be near noob island but on the other side of the map. Running short of fuel the only options are a) building a tanker that has one chance at making it there and back with everything working or b) get into oil drilling and refining.
Now there are many great tutorial videos out there and I do love the challenge that is provided by the situation, but that's a lot to ask of anyone new to this game. Especially considering how long they could potentially play until making this same realization. I think there should be more points scattered around the map that sell resources again. It's not like it would diminish the difficulty for veterans but it could help new players to survive long enough - you can die a million times, but each time you'll loose a vehicle in the process, that precious fuel in it might be lost forever as well.

for real, I now only have games on the same kind of stormworks that doesn't give you quick satisfaction and requires you to go deep and spend time and brain power to achive something decent. But sometimes when I want to relax and play a quick game I just start a game, plays for 2 minutes, realize i'm too tired to play this game, quit, repeat with an another game in my library or just end up looking at it for hours. Idk if this happens to you still but it happens to me for sure.

But when my brain is too tired to think, I build other versions of my creations for a quick fix, like take a truck and make it into an SUV, or make a trailer for the truck! Enjoyable yet easy. But I do get that where I don't want to make anything anymore sometimes, so I just watch a movie then haha

it's always the feeling of an unrestricted possibilities that let's you create something and see it function which gives me that sweat satisfaction and feeling of accomplishment
i still struggle with microcontrollers sometimes
and from a personal experience you should try exporting your creations into 3d models which you can import into a 3d software that you are comfortable with as a ply object and make an environment for it and see how beautiful it becomes (may need a bit of tweaking to get it to look right)

Part of the game I love the most and I haven’t found in other game is how much you can do with microcontrollers, with logic gate and lua you can literally do anything.
Synthetics visions, advance radar target locking, ballistic calculator ,auto docking, cargo detection and auto pickup, radio signal strength base navigation auto pilot, signal triangulation, these are not in game content, but the creation of the sophisticated microcontroller or controllers. I even saw someone actually render 3D image with lua or play stormworks in the stormworks 🤣.
And it even force you to concentrate your wild idea into pieces of lua, with only 4096 bytes and limited computing resources, you HAVE to factor optimization into your design. As a programmer i really appreciate the utilization of the code and logic of the games.

    • @454ss_gaming

Yup, absolutely! That is something that I only touched on, because that is not my specialty, but the fact it exists and lets us make things to serve our ultimate creations is insane. I'm having a hard time deciding if I should try this game. I like the whole concept of rescue missions, building ships and dangerous environment. But the game seems so full of issues, the NPCs from what I've seen so far are worst than brain dead, can't even follow you properly, clunky gameplay and weird and repetitive missions. I've been watching some videos about the game recently and I was astounded to learn they are making a space expansion while to core game seems to be holding itself together with duck tape. Still, I'll keep the game under my radar.

    • @NPC-Gamer

Hmm, I've never had issues with NPCs following me.
But then again I don't interact with them frequently.
I stick to creative mode and usually find myself doing shipping stuff (moving containers from one port to the next) and the occasional flight in a workshop airliner.
Like others have said, you can play it any way you like.
There's a new ore ship that just came out where you can load minerals (coal, ore, whatever) and haul it to another port for unloading, if you're into that kindof stuff.
Or snag the weapons DLC and get into dogfights, groundwars, or sea battles online

Maybe, but I've found a lack of games that are this unforgiving - everyone seems to want walkthroughs and quick satisfaction

@@454ss_gamingonly thing i dispise on stormworks is how the lift if the wings works, bcs you can t realistically glide with bugger planes, so for building bigger planes i switched to FLYOUT its mutch more realistic in terms of Realism
