Xu Xin finally manages to rely on its reverse backhand topspin. This is the new Xu Xin, I expect much from the next encounters against Ma Long and Zhang Jike. With his new confidence he is much stronger psychologically and he might be able to totally destroy those two.
I bet on a Xu Xin domination to come!

This should have been the finals!! Great match and effort from both!

    Great performance by both players!
The thing I really like about Xu Xin compared to the other chinese players is that he shows emotions, both when it goes good/bad. After the games, he also does a gesture like "you played well" compared to Zhang Jike and Ma Long for example. He has that special relationship with all opponents, especially europeans!

impressed by dimitrij's services, third set 8:8, 2 services got xx.
8:11 great point. really shows dimitrij's backhand style, cos he hits the ball more than he puts spins into the ball.
6th, 7th sets xx starts using backhand flip, 7th set it's not becos dimitrij played badly, xx totally changed his tactic. he exploited weaknesses in dima's BH flip, things like 11:50 serving really close to the net, and dima's spin flip is not low enough. dima's bh can be even better, thanks for sharing

I have never seen Dimitry play this well. Congratulations to him. If he can improve this much in 2 years, he could have a real shot against the Chinese hegemony.

yes, Ovtcharov is one of my favorite players to watch. His quickness is being improved. Good for him.

      That spina bifida form though...
And yeah, I can say that because my cousin, Rita, has had it her whole life. And she would love this joke, if she knew anything about table tennis

It's not a hindrance, obviously. It just looks quite a lot different to most players

When training 6:4 in Game 6, XX became more aggressive, initiating flicks from BH and slow but spiny loops from FH. The tide turned then. But Ovtcharov played very well except the last game. His fast blocks to XX's forehand was very effective. Great match.

When it comes to a close match like this one, Chinese will likely win the match cuz they are better players than anybody in the world. Ovtcharov has a chance to end the match in the 6th game, still kudos to him for pushing XX to the limit.

Okay sorry about double post. Had to hold down spacebar to get it in slow motion. It's reverse pendulum (done in a punching motion) side/topspin. Really subtle & quick in the action.

Ovtcharov kinda lost it. He got a little too excited on those counterattacks. It was a good change of pace, but if only he mixed it up a bit just to keep Xu Xin guessing. Xu Xin was having trouble reading the shots.

Kindly someone explain to me, I thought the ball must be visible to both umpires at the point it makes contact to the racket while serving? what are the rules now for serves?

  • @cllllllllll
    @cllllllllll 10 лет назад

As much as I dislike the temperament of Ovtcharov, he progressed so much against Xu Xin in big matches. How he showed up big-time in the fourth and fifth set proved his new level. That Xu Xin barely managed to make it back to 3-3 was simply a matter of luck. But then he regressed back to his old self at the end after missing several shots.... As the Chinese pro commentaries always say, the beginning of the 7th set decides everything...

Wow 1:13 that serve by Xu Xin was nasty. I'm still not sure what that had on it after seeing it several times. His wrist action almost makes it look like he it the ball with the backhand side of his rubber. But all I see is black and I know he plays that on his forehand side. Either way, good disguise of the serve. Got Dimitrij.

i thought he hit with his backhand side because it was a reversed spin on the ball

I don't know what happen to him. It looks like he ranout of steam after his comeback. I tought for sure that he was going to win the match. You can clearly see on the 5th set that his body language seems to be unsure lack of confidence. He could have won that match easily. I guess this is were the mental strenght comes into play.
