Space Harrier is one of those special games that give you nostalgia even if you never played the game. The music is so iconic with an 80s feel, which I made a cover of the main theme. This game was way ahead of its time
It's strange that 3D World Runner did a cleaner job of reproducing Space Harrier on the NES. I'm surprised that we didn't get a Lynx clone of Space Harrier, because games like Blue Lightning suggest it would've worked great.
This was my favorite arcade game of its era. Later in the 90s the FG scene would light up the arcade starting with SF2 and Samurai Shodown, but in the mid 80s nothing touched this game. Stun runner was another amazing title, but it came a few years after Space Harrier.
Sega was always on that mission to create 3d game experiences. They had Zaxxon with its isometric 3D gameplay, Turbo and early racing game, and Buck Rogers Planet of Zoom which could be considered a direct gameplay predecessor to Space Harrier.
@cheeksmcgoo7979 - That was a spinoff/sequel though, not a port of the original game and it's playability was greatly hampered by having to cut the framerate in half to produce the 3D effect...I say this as a longtime owner of the SegaScope and this game.

Try the atari 8 bit. Best of the 8 bit platforms even better than Amiga and St. Jaw dropping. With the right expert creative programmer much is possible

I love 3D World Runner. To this day I can't find anyone else who has played the game, even those my age in their late forties!

Rail shooters are sick! Severely under appreciated genre. There is a pretty sick rail shooter called Mirage Feathers that just came out.
