    I'm like a year and a half late to the game, but I just wanted to share my weed experiences since I don't get many opportunities to do so. I have an artificial electrical tick in my brain that misfires every 3-4 seconds, causing my brain to spike in activity then flatline, which results in seizures. I've tried typical anti-seizure meds and nothing has worked. When I was 25, I was desperate for anything to help me just be a normal functioning human, and a friends suggested trying weed. First time I smoked, it was like a fog cleared in my brain and everything got quieter and calmer in my head. I could think clearly for the first time in a very long time. I was raised in an environment where "drugs are evil" so I was very ashamed that a drug was the only thing that helped me at all. I tried to function without smoking and I would end up sitting in the same spot staring at a wall for upwards of 5 hours, and I wouldn't be able to remember what I had done or whom I had interacted with the previous day. My brain malfunctions so drastically that I haven't been able to hold a job after the age of 20 because 5 minutes after being told to do something, I would forget someone even talked to me. The only way I can function without seizures and memory loss is to smoke week every day, and I struggle with that fact. I feel like I should just be able to struggle through my mental issues like normal people do, but when I'm sober I forget to even feed myself or my pets, which is dangerous for my health and theirs. I've had to accept that if I want to be "normal" I can't be sober. It sucks, but it's the only thing that helps. I don't have ADHD or anything, but when Jarvis said weed doesn't do anything fun for him, I understand that. I don't have hallucinations or feel impaired at all, just sometimes I laugh at things more easily. I don't have any issues with paranoia either. Anyway, long ass weed rant over, thanks for reading if you made it this far. ^-^

      I'm about 9 months late to this comment, lol. But I hope you've been able to let go of some of the shame you felt when you smoked for your health. People have demonized marijuana, but the fact of the matter is that it is MEDICINE also! It has so many medicinal benefits, and people use it for so many things to help with their health, or recovery, or anything. So even if others want to be like "Shame on you! you're doing drugs!" you're really not. Anti seizure meds are "drugs" too. They're a chemical that you put in your body to alter your brain's function. Weed does the same thing.
      It sounds like you've had the time to process this reality for yourself, but if you still struggle with that shame, I just wanted to say that you're just taking another type of medicine, that has been proven to help with things like what you have.

And a similar critique for the Medea movies. Just wanted to say that because I think it should be acknowledged when we are looking at someone's full body of work. Its not just Adam Sandler does some bad movies and some good movies...he writes and produces arguably problematic work. Not trying to cancel anyone just a point to think about.

    1:14:18 Bo Burnham was in his late-teens to early 20s, making content for people who were primarily the same age as him.
    Shane Dawson was in his early 20s making content for children and young teens.
    The dynamic between the two is incredibly different. If Bo Burnham were the same age as Shane Dawson, he wouldn’t have made the same jokes. In fact, there’s evidence to this point:
    look at the way Bo Burnham directed Eighth Grade. If Shane Dawson had any hand in that, he would’ve made incredibly tasteless and downright predatory jokes sexualizing the children in the movie. Bo handled the material with tact and even the darker themes were treated sensitively.
    There is no excuse for Shane’s past content. As someone in their mid 20s, I could not imagine making the “jokes” he did, let alone thinking they were funny coming from someone else.

    • @OliverStarfall
      @OliverStarfall Год назад +3

      Hell, look at the shift Bo’s content has made throughout his career. He’s now talking about more adult topics (such as living with your partner yk not saying that depression is something only adults can feel) and not only has his content grown with his audience, his content grew with him. Meanwhile Shane is producing the exact thing things he used to do all while saying “c’mon guys I couldn’t have said slurs and put my mouth on animal’s genitals! Look at me, I’m just a little UwU babie boi” while he’s like in his forties

  • @soldiaz7261

    Shane Dawson is a very good demonstration of why child sexual abuse=/=pedophilia, it's just power and not caring who gets hurt--as well as a good demo of why equating the two gets people off the hook.
    Shane's clearly not attracted to kids, or unable to control himself. He thinks it's funny. He doesn't care. He's not hot and bothered, he has power and he thinks it's hilarious and no one is stopping him. That's child sexual abuse.
    The idea that pedophilia and sexual abuse are interchangeable is why people don't think to consider his behavior sexual assault/abuse. Because abuse is always about power, and it isn't a mental illness. He doesn't have an involuntary attraction disorder, he's a prick.

    27:08 I actually worked with a guy like that. He does BJJ and buys into ALL of the toxic masculinity shit. He'll constantly offer to help me carry stuff from one end of the lab to the other but in a really condescending way, like he's my "knight in shining armour" or whatever BS. But then our lab had an intruder one evening (I work in a hospital lab in downtown Toronto; there's a lot of homeless patients, most of whom are harmless but sometimes, they're on drugs and this stuff happens). I was in the front area near the opening that the intruder climbed through, and he was in an area just behind the front. He LEFT ME ALONE WITH THE LADY HOPPED UP ON DRUGS. We later found out she had a needle on her, but luckily she was so out of it when she came to the lab that I'm not sure she registered that I was even there so I was unharmed. But all this talk about how him being the STRONG MANLY MAN and his implying that I'm a weak, tiny woman and then...well thanks, dude.

    I don’t think Jarvis means to do this - I think he’s just so excited lol but he cuts Jordan off often here and /or says “yea” and proceeds to speak over Jordan when Jordan isn’t finished lol. I only notice because I do that sometimes too but it’s because I’m just so excited about what is being discussed.

      I learned to improve on that as well. The problem with me as well is my friends come to know I'm a talker and dont talk much, so when I want to let them speak as well they don't after. But it's an effort and it's very helpful when you make it clear with your friends to tell you when you're doing it.

      Georga Seebalack thanks for sharing! Yeah, I totally understand that. You’re right though it does help to preface it to others so they’re more aware of it - some can even help you recognize it in the moment and adjust which is helpful because we don’t mean to do it. It’s also good to have friends that have positive intent towards you and trust that you’re not doing it maliciously or on purpose - some have more patience than others.

      @Karlene1722 3 года назад +6

      Astrid Quarry lol, it happens to so many people but I’m glad we can interpret it in more of a positive light vs. just writing someone off as a “bad listener” - people just get excited sometimes and now a days that’s something I can appreciate in others because it’s a bit hard to come by in 2020.

    That's really crazy. I've never heard of anyone else like me. I've got ADHD, and similarly- I have joked that i would be the WORST drug addict ever because the first time i didn't have any on hand ..I'd forget I had any interest and I'd just never do it again.
    I smoked (cigarettes) on and off from the time that I was a teen- and out with friends a a bar, I could totally blow through a pack .. Then go home and not smoke again for 6+ months because I just never bothered to buy anymore... But the next time I'd be out and I'm standing there, outside in line behind someone smoking ... I'm ready to bum one off the guy next to me.

    As someone who’s felt the need to stay quiet about my assault due to the way most people think of my abuser as a good person, it was extremely validating to be reminded that not all people believe that the mans reputation and livelihood need to be “protected”.
    Too often in any scenario I see people victim blaming.
    Whether it’s saying that “you shouldn’t have brought up that persons past actions” even though those actions may have directly caused you or other people harm. Or even just straight up telling people that they don’t have the right to have been hurt by something because it didn’t happen within the last 5 minutes.
    Time doesn’t automatically mean that someone has changed for the better either. I’m sick of seeing people use “it was in the past” as an excuse.
    Chances are when gone unchecked, people don’t unlearn what led them to their mistake, they learn instead to better mask their behaviours so that they receive less backlash.

    This is old but as someone who is also not addicted to any particular substance, it’s straight due to two things.
    1: I have zero object permanence as a neurodivergent person as well so when it’s gone it doesn’t exist.
    2: literally everyone in my family are addicts of the juice and/or hard drugs at one point in life (like literally no one in my direct “blood line” has been straight laced or even casual par takers) so my tolerance goes high really quick. I have to take tolerance breaks from Tylenol and Advil, sometimes certain cold medicines. And yes I have chronic illness on top so life is hell.

      counsellor (with ADHD too lol) here: actually it most likely is an ADHD thing! some of my clients with ADHD report that weed helps them chill out and focus, some report no effect. I've personally found that I've had one of those results depending on the strain, but it hasn't been consistent. chemical substances tend to affect the ADHD brain differently than they do people without ADHD; around 80% of us will feel a calming/settling effect from stimulants like caffeine or cocaine for example. Weed has just been very very hard to study in North America up until now, so we can expect to have a much better researched idea of how marijuana interacts with ADHD in 10-15 years.
