- If Google's algorithm is so good, why do they have to manually deindex sites?
Over the past week or so, Google has hand-picked and deindexed nearly 2% of the websites analyzed.
I share several examples of sites that have gotten crushed. But I also discuss why this action by Google is so dangerous...and unprecedented.
As Google tries to keep up with AI spam, have they crossed a line?

Has your website been deindexed by Google in the last 2 weeks?
Yes, it's a legit site deindexed. Hoping to hear back for reconsideration
Yep, in 6 months went from 60k to zero, all original content written by an expert in the field. Original pics and video as well.
@@captjimusfl My comment got deleted lol
Some, of my posts are not ranking for that specific topic I have written specially when the post contradict with other posts. But for some other posts it is ranking higher but a network negative for traffic. For example I wrote a great post about self Hosting ghost blog for free. There are many other posts on that, my ranking improved for that search. But for a post for creating pwa for a wix website is not ranking. Because that topic has not been covered by anyone, completely my original approach and wix says, pwa is not supported. So Google is not showing my method of creating pwa for wix site. But my reddit post about that is ranking. Also my post about properly doing full page Caching of ghost blog in a cdn is not ranking probably because all other blog posts about cdn says full page cache can not be done, and only static assets can be served, so Google probably thinks that my method is wrong and the post is not ranking at all, although my made a post in ghost forum with the same post, it is ranking that forum link is ranking number one for best CDN for ghost blogs
So, net negative traffic, massive reduction in Google traffic, but increased in referral traffic, although a net of 30-40% reduction in traffic. If went to almost zero on 6th March, but has come back somewhat
The SERPs are absurd, 15 year old forum posts ranking higher than good current articles.
Most current articles are complete garbage, so on the surface it makes sense at least.
Its crazy.

Definitely, build your audience.

Have had enough of blogging...two websites, one hit hard by HCU, and this site and another site hit hard by March algo.
So is it worth my time to work for weeks/months to hopefully do the right thing to repair things to only have them hit at a later time by another algo?
Time to find a job.
Or you could also try getting traffic from other sources. I'm not saying you should necessarily, do what's right for you. A job might be your best option, it all depends.

Semrush shows its traffic peaked then did a slow traffic death spiral?
I've seen this same traffic pattern on MANY websites...traffic starts slow, then takes off, then does a slow death spiral...it's almost like niche sites have a limited shelf life.
Nonsense. They've been warning people for well over a year. They're screwing up with their pre-prompting and filtering in images, but this is both right and should have been done sooner.
Great video made awesome by the B-roll! It really seems like Google is clueless on how to keep up. Another company could take advantage and break their monopoly if Big G doesn't figure it out soon.
Glad you enjoyed the broll!

Hey please response,
I bought a domain after expiry 5 months ago, i am working on 0 difficulty keywords how ever being ranked for any, is it possible than google has shadowban me or something like that? is there any tool to check, my site is indexed but not ranking anyway
Zac Johnson is an OG. He's been around for while.
My site is indexed but has dropped from serps. What does it mean? No ai content.
John Mueller's site got deindexed as well lol.

Google is destroying it self..
Maybe they're doing it manually and training the algorithm with that evaluation
Maybe so!
They have done it before though the manual actions went away cos their algorithm was handling it, things have changed the only way to verify it’s working is to send suspect sites to the manual review team, I suspect this will slowly disappear once algorithm has been tweeked and more reliable at finding bad sites
Hey Spencer, my website was just dropped by Google. I wrote all the content myself, and I don't even know how to use AI. The site is 4 years old. My articles haven't been de-indexed, but Google has de-ranked them. Can I expect them to come back in ranking after this update is over? Please answer.
I don't know. But the update isn't over, its going to take about 2 more weeks.
focus on the actual business and people and stop looking at traffic reports
You built a business depending on Google. Time for Change
After watching your video, a question arose in my mind, I am thinking that if Google's algorithm is not able to detect the AI content and Google now has to take manual action, does it mean that Google Agrithm will fail completely or partially in the next few months or in the next few years, which will be taken advantage of by AI companies like chatgpt. It will go away and people will use Google search less and the manipulation of Google will be less.
Thanks, can you share a link to the Originality AI study?
The link is in the description.

I run a hobby website using cheap web hosting. However, after the first week of March, my website became very slow. After i inform hosting company, the guy said.. they found, crazy Google is directing a large number of unnecessary and not relevant traffic to my website. This problem has actually a really real headache. My website focuses on local aspects and facts and is not related to business in the USA. I'm puzzled as why Google is causing this issue for me.
Interesting.
thats ssooo short sightted. high traffic is always useful, even if advertising funds your local services. get a better host, no excuse for crap, even if cheap nowadays
Google has to divert the traffic somewhere.
Bcz all the relevant content sites are in coma 😂
"Oh, my dear young kids! I haven't updated that website since 2001. It's purely a product of my nostalgia. At 91 years old, I know that its content is outdated and irrelevant in today's era.I am not recommend that content to society. I really believe that following such outdated ideologies is bad for society and our country/world. if really speaking, following outdated concepts and ideologies like those can lead to a country or people's bankruptcy, both financially and morally. Anyhow I will delete content sooner.
@@user-nd5vk8cs4r what outdated idealogiees? no-ones said anything about your site, only that it can be quciker if neeeded. never too old to learn should be your lesson for 2024 maybe :)
Google's decision to manually penalize websites is definitely a bold move. It's like they're playing referee in a high-stakes game of online content. Let's hope they fine-tune their algorithms soon so we can all navigate this digital jungle with a bit more ease!
What is the evidence that they're hand picking sites to penalize?
True. Manual penalty doesn't necessarily mean that they are handpicking sites to penalize. Very unlikely. Oops!...
We don´t know if "manual actions" are really "manual"
we kinda do
They should check not only the website but also the articles manually.. Not every article in a site is good.. Some good some not.. What about people experimenting in a single targeted article.. If the article is performing good, then he would make the other other articles just like that one. He cant change all article at once..
My traffic dropped like a bomb and then it recovered to the most traffic ever only for it to bomb again the next day. Whats interesting is my rankings are much higher.. I fiigure whatever it is they are doing they are not finished doing it yet.
Interesting.
I am experiencing something similar but without the massive swings. Rankings have improved but impressions and traffic are down by around 30%. Thankfully I built up my social media prior to this update which has made up for lost search traffic
they have never finished and never finished tinkering for 25 years so
@@shilokherington8634 traffic is such a poor measurement of profit
Google search is 💩 right now
@niche-pursuits do you think you'll be targeted either manually or algo?
No, because I never tried to convince people that doing AI spam was a good idea. From what I've seen, Google has targeted people and sites that did that.
@@niche-pursuits But you have used AI to create content. Granted their method to detect AI is meh at best.
@@larry-ludwig so many tell tale signs, people even copy paste code with chatgpt in the code sirect into pages haha

6 of my sites got deindexed, all 5+ years of age human written content.
I cant believe people still trt to rank for google searches. Other than recipes or clicking an ad on social, i dont remember the last time i went to a website from a google search...and i dont think im alone
I'm wondering what technique they're using for detecting AI generation. Sometimes it's going to be obvious to a human that's manually reviewing it, but to date there has not been any detectors that have been reliable or valid. They are woefully abysmally inaccurate at detecting AI content on the whole. If Google is doing this and enforcing it, that means they have an ace in the hole for detection.
its easy to find flags, get several flags and then listed for manual review which will take all of about 5 secnds to see if you support or use spam or not
Yuuuuppppp.... 4 of my sites got hit for "Pure Spam"... plot twist, they were 4 sites that had no AI... All human written content before the whole AI boom thing. So Google!!! Please explain..???? Edit: And also the sites only had about 50~100 articles on them, and not much traffic at all.
Funny. The spammers panic. :-)
google search is messed up
Well let’s face it. The best way to see about a site is do it manually.
This makes me wanna put out a mega AI constructive blog and see what happens.
Haha...risky!
@@niche-pursuits haha maybe it'll compete with yours
Reddit and quora currently top my targeted keywords. And AI generated article from competitor site gets on first page too. Sigh
Hello, I am finding the answer to the question, that's why I found this Video. The government actively discourages TikTok(I am not a fan or against it). Why is my search always now TikTok?The government deindexed it. But Google actively indexes it. Funny!!
By thinking you can read the algorithm is the first mistake to begin with 😐
How long until Google is sued for this stuff?
You say manually de-indexing is dangerous. I agree, for producers of low quality content.
If they're handpicking, i love google then
Moral of the story, do not bulk publish 😂
Also true.
I did not bulk publish and went from 50 k page views to zero.
that actually depends
@@captjimusfl then there is something else very serious lurking with your website. This is not a manual panelty, I assume.
@@amitjangra6454 yes, manual penalty
I paid people to write good content for my site. Highly researched and always edited by me. I switched to AI generated content which was still highly researched based on a reference material from many sources. The content was the same tone as before and same helpfulness to humans. So I don’t think AI writing the content is the issue. My content is helpful to humans. I was getting good traffic and the site metrics were showing people were engaged. I’ve not had a penalty but traffic is down 80%.
I don’t know what more I could have done really. Google now shows less helpful content than mine for the search terms I was ranking for. Not just subjective worse but now inaccurate, opinionated, short and unhelpful content.
The Google’s job is to output good results. What should they do if the algorithm can not catch ai spam? They are getting the job done.
My site got hammered, but no manual penalty so I think they can detect AI content and targeting specific keywords.
