    mega respect to you. Firstly having a Road legal version, and secondly, taking it on the a406 too. I've had plenty of bikes in my time, cbr600rr, mt07, honda grom, loads of mopeds, I'm tempted to get a Surron for a bit off fun, but would only want a road legal version like you have. • @mumboscactus800
      @mumboscactus800 Год назад

      The wire doesn't actually need to be physically cut apparantly, insurance is fine with it, keep it eco for under 30mph sport goes full speed, but cutting the wire unlocks sport mode full speed not eco, so eco is still legal at 16 on CBT classes as a 50cc moped, insurance goes for around 400-600 from what I know, and they're fine with it being used full speed usually

    • @Sur-Ron
      @Sur-Ron  Год назад +1

      I ride using my CBT. When I bought mine the wire was already cut. It's insured as a 125cc equivalent. I always ride in sport (mainly because the re-gen is more aggressive). I only found 2 companies that would insure it. I use Lexham insurance. More expensive than the other company (can't remember the name) but that other company had such poor reviews I just went with Lexham for peace of mind.

    I don’t understand why anyone would buy a Sur Ron over a normal motorbike? I actually cannot fathom it at all? In saying that, I wish there was a good electric motorbike with decent range. Few more years before that becomes a possibility.

    • @Sur-Ron
      @Sur-Ron  2 года назад +1

      I wanted something electric and something I could take off-road/ trails. I do know what you mean though… it also has a few benefits over a normal motorbike, no servicing, virtually no maintenance, no fuel, no road tax, costs less than a pound to charge. The downsides are, the initial cost, and the range. And I mainly wanted it to commute to work and avoid traffic and not have to worry about speed bumps which are on every single road near me. I was considering selling it for a normal motorbike but decided I’ll keep it and get another bike too (next year when I have to do my full license)

      @@Sur-Ron I see your points mate. Still for the price you pay, could have bought an e-bike and an e-moped (or road legal 50cc scrambler). I just think the Sur Ron looks like a kids dirt bike and is meant for fields, not the main roads. I can still see their appeal tbh and they look like great fun, but I’d still pick a petrol driven motor over an electric on anything more than a bicycle. They just don’t have the range for the money you are paying and whilst they may pay off over time in terms of fuel and tax savings, all battery powered bikes/ motorbikes are straight up a pain to constantly charge, especially if planning any trip more than 100kms from your home. The infrastructure is getting there for cars, but not even close for e-motorbikes or regular e-bikes. Indeed a great city traffic beating tool, but there are certainly far cheaper options with much greater ranges that also work well in the city.

      @@NoelG-IRE all your points are completely true but it does what I need it to do. I just wanted an alternative to taking my car to work everyday. And the range isn’t really an issue for me as I very rarely travel that far and if I need to I just take my car. I can also fit it in my parents car if fold down the back seats, take the front wheel off the Sur-Ron and put in the car, and because it’s so light it’s easy to do.

      @@NoelG-IRE you say that mate but theres a massive lack of decent 125 ofroaders, sure you coulf get a wr or something but the power on one of these is gonna be much better suited off road than a wr125, or you could go the two stroke route like i have, ive got a 2001 DTR but it cost over 3k when i bought it could probably add close to a grand now, and the mpg on these two strokes is awful, so im planning to get one of these for the work journeys to keep the mileage down on the dtr

      @@SDrizzy ok but what IF you wanted to go on a longer spin? You have to buy and carry another battery or stop and wait for it to charge. That’s my problem, the range and the cost vs a combustion powered bike. What if you want to go to a proper track for the day? These batteries are not cheap and have an ultimate life. They are only designed for a certain number of charges and after that they start to degrade. For me, they will cost you more money in the long run and I don’t think they will
      hold there value either. Plus most people buying them for off-road end up changing out the forks immediately and upgrading lots of other things. Cutting wires to derestrict them etc. just seems to me like they are an expensive toy and would not prepare you to drive a bigger bike which you will inevitably want to do once you realise 70mph is not that fast
