These cars couldve been something crazy if GM didnt decide to pair it with their worst transmission
Agreed. I had a Monte Carlo SS back in the day and had to get the Trans rebuilt. The 4t65-e is literally made of glass.
I feel like the SS models also should have been RWD as well. They missed out on that.
That long geared lethargic four speed automatic. We had a civilan one with the 3.5 V6 we used as a patrol car you could go to 60mph in first gear since they added vvt that extra few rpm's allowed them to stretch first gear. Terrible idea by gm.
I enjoy those long gears, while riding along the road, and I can roll into the throttle, and she will drop a gear. Then she will start singing her song, and she will continue until I determine that I probably don’t want another ticket. If I roll into her a little quicker and a little deeper, while at certain times. She will drop two gears, and go straight to the chorus. Yet, she is a enjoyable driver, and if you push her anywhere near corners or with a non clear from debris. She will let you know. As for riding in the SS, it is a old school boulevard ride. The only thing holding it back from luxury riding, is the intermediate shaft, and with all the weight residing in the front. It’s a little more weighted than my ‘86 Town Car, which had more of a float.
Yeah, that transmission. The stupidest part is the sisters that had the NorthStar, had less power, and the better transmission (power wise, as far as gearing, I don’t know).
Also it was fwd too right which is even more worse
Super facts had the same year transmission died 3 times had to give it up . But I loved that car so much
This car is almost a classic, too. Only 5 years away from being 20 years old exactly! It still feels like yesterday that I remember seeing these brand new, back then. Nostalgia! Still sounds awesome!
3 more years **
@@rtcturnemup7028 It says it's a 2008 Impala. That actually makes that 5 years away from now, man.
@@TheTechCguy lol yes this specific car but the body style was “ brand new “ in 2006.
@@rtcturnemup7028 Can't believe it, was at the dealer with my Dad Bergenfield, NJ 2006 he got it brand new artic blue ls. I drove him there in my 2002 Impala only 4 years old then. Sure does seem like yesterday. Got my all black 2009 SS in January 2020 love it but needed new tranny.
These cars are so rare to find. I’ve been looking for one to drive as a starter car
I have 1
They have terrible transmissions
I bought one yesterday as my first car in the states! 08 SS
My 09 SS for sale
Recommend as a good first car
most underrated car man , this thing is a sleeper
LS4 got me into V8s when I was a child
Well that was a tease of a beast mode!
She pop off the resi and let that thing open up. tThose V8’s sound really good. Wish I could have one myself
No snap crackle pop. That mid muffler definitely doing it's job. Tight reigns on them horses
These cars and the V8 grand prixs are very underrated
Why??
@@willymaze368 has the same 5.3 v8 under the hood as the full size pickup. just in a sedan.
@@sethwillis9843 lol the displacement is the same but it’s a built engine for fwd cars not 4wd trucks
This is not the same 5.3 they put in trucks. Trucks had cast iron blocks and 706 heads. This is an all aluminum engine… block and heads. The heads are the 243 heads, same as the LS6. At 10:1 compression and over 300 HP from the factory, it’s similar in displacement but that’s it
I'll have to remember this setup to do when I get one eventually
YESSS this is what I been waiting for!!!!!!
Not bad, I got a 2006 with the factory exhaust and muffler delete. I suggest a muffler delete and bigger tips. You’ll get big sound.
So there is a chevy SS that people mistake for an impala, and then there is an ACTUAL Impala SS? Sheesh lol
Yea and that Chevy ss really should have been the affordable the Impala ss with the ls3 and ls4 options
Ain’t got a lick of gas lol straight to the gas station he go
I got the same one. Tell him to remove the resonator too! Mine doesn’t have cats either
“Went all the way to Detroit to get it” you’re welcome automotive world for some of the best vehicles mankind has to offer.
I always love those and the Pontiac Grand Prix GXP ❤❤❤❤❤
Right on!
He needs to contact joats performance it's a guy named James brewer whose the best tuner when it comes to the LS4 PLATFORM he can make it run harder and make the trans last longer
Gotta delete the resonator also then they should good with 5 inch tips
Noooooo I wanted to drive down there for mine to be the first on the channel lol that’s literally my twin tho minus the corvette badges
sounds really good
Is this just an extremely soft limiter or did he just tap the gas when revving it? Sounds like he barely did anything
I still have my 09 impala SS had to rebuild the Trans at 88K. And the actuator constantly clicking, a repetitive repair months a part, the car is very annoying at times, has great power no engine problems. I did have to change the ECU so I take that bak, that’s counts as a problem. I currently have almost 91K on the dash, bought it in 2015 with 50K miles on it.
Im hopefully buying an 07 impala ss on Thursday. Definitely gonna do the muffler delete if i buy it..when i go look at it, what are thing's i should look for that could be trouble? Im mechanically inclined to an extent, but a few tips could help
what is the magnaflow mid muffler model ? love this...awesome..i have this car , going this route..
I just bought a used 07 SS and the guy had taken both mufflers out with the tailpipes, so I guess that means he left the resonator and catalytic converter on. There’s nothing coming out the back. It’s loud but I don’t like the look . What do you suggest that won’t cost me a lot? And honestly I know nothing about cars.
I managed to get mines at 140db it's still running after 230873 miles on the dash
All this car needs is a rear muffler delete and delete the resonator and replace it with a MagnaFlow magnapack bullet.
I’m crying so hard 😢😢 I had my 2007 chevy impala ss an it was just like this god I miss my car so much but I got into an accident and lost it
Same here but in 2021 I had my accident . I put $6500 into it my God I miss her .
95 decibels 100 decibels. Close enough lol
Very clean! Nice!
Such a beautiful vehicle. The fact that it got ruined by a cheap transmission is truly horrifying. Still such a bad-fucking-ass car!
I have a MagnaFlow cat back on my 3.6 L Malibu. Magnaflow isn't known to being loud but they have great tone. I deleted the resonator in the middle and put two high flow cats on. Sounds pretty good
I actually seen one of these on the streets of Oak Lawn, Illinois.
What color was it. I live near there and I got one
Lol those 5.3 transverse V8's were special. Don't see the V8 (SS) versions that much, only the base V6's. Only downside about front wheel drive cars is the torque steer especially if there's a V8 in front, but still that adds to the excitement 😄
Once you tune it the trans will last
We need an after market parts company to make parts for it !! I just went through some BS, my 2009 Impala SS was overheating in traffic. I noticed the fans were not coming on. 2 mechanics could not figure it out so I brought it to Chevrolet. They determined the fans shorted out due to the fuse block overheating. GM no longer makes the parts! The service manager found the fans laying around in another dealership and I found the fuse block in a scrap yard. Took almost a month $2,800.
Has your transmission gone out since you made this comment?
@@Obviously_pro No but I did that years ago.
@@michaelmohrle1773 lol just checking
To bad it’s front wheel drive , sounds cool.
This car would have been a hot fun sedan if it wasn’t FWD
How much was the work you done
Any recommend for good first car ?
Hell cat red eye
Too quiet for those vette badges
Sounds best when deep imo
Thas why iyo 😂
Smoooth
These impalas sound Way Better just straight piped! I really dislike how it sounds with the rest of the delete!!
Bring it back to detroit i wanna buy it ive been looking for one but none feel real like this one lmaooooo pleaseeee
Is front wheel drive with V8 engine? 😮
Yes
@@debiasflowers3067 I can't belive it 😰 I'd wish it have rear traccion
These cares sound sinister when you throw a cam shaft on them, choppy
Bro spent money on fake caliper covers but not the check engine light
Here for a good time, not a long time
Or the tire light or gas
You to understand the check engine could be from a simple tune
My light stays on. I drive it everywhere.
naw resonator delete and add some super 10s on there
Sounds like the Grand Prix gxp
Same engine
@@MRGUYCODE isn't the gxp a supercharged V6? This car has a 5.3 LS
@@Bobthebuilder.69 GTP is the supercharged 3.8 Liter V6. GXP is 5.3 LS. Same thing with some Monte Carlo SS's and Buicks.
They were so slow with that slush box.
Slow I wouldn’t say 😂 but sure carry on .
they weren't fast but they weren't slow. they had a lot of speed and ok shifting for a crappy transmission and crappy shifting... 5.5 is pretty straight for that car. I would drive it to be honest but I used to have one of these now I got it. V6 Cadillac ATS and it beats that straight up
Rare car? I see a handful of these things just around my little town.
Not the SS, you see the Ls, Lt and Ltz most likley that have the V6
@@michaelmohrle1773 no they're most definitely the SS
@@Boone9269 You are sure ? do know how many were made ?
??
Ain't that FWD?
Yes it is sadly..I don’t what made chevy think fwd would be best for this car 😔
Doesn't sound horrid but it could be better.
What a "pile"..🤣
😤😤
if it’s from detroit it’s dogged out but it looks solid
🤣🤣🤣
It didn’t sound all that great imo but to each their own
These cars are one of the reasons GM went bankrupt by 2008. What a pile of garbage!
How? They kept this model exactly till 2016, and the impala went until 2020. You still see these cars everywhere no matter the year 😂
@@thatonebroccoli4006 cause GM could not do anything to change the model once it was released they did not have the money or resources
@@jmc6000 but how was it the reason they went bankrupt, that’s what I’m trying to ask. It’s a very popular car seen everywhere still today.
@@jmc6000 They messed up by making the SS models FWD. If they would’ve made these RWD, with actual dual exhaust from the factory, they would’ve sold ALOT more of these. Quite frankly I would’ve bought one of these along time ago if they weren’t FWD.
@@thatonebroccoli4006 I said this car is "one" of the reasons, not "the" reason
This is Not a rare car lol
Rare because they only made very limited with V8 engine. So many v6s
It'll be rare after so many people trash them . And as far rare it wasn't intended to be rare but unique bc it's a fwd LS
@@johnyhernandez9108 that or it’s FWD is the other reason lol
@@thefngoat2888 if it were RWD we definitely would see alot more of these and would have a lot more potential
@@blakelip3 yeah freaking Canadians bummed the Impala SS with the fwd thing I had one with a joats performance tune by James brewer and those things with a tune and lm7 truck intake manifold e85 and a cam with shorty's can make about 400-450 whp
2nd…. As always
y do ppl get muffler deletes on slow cars lmaoooo
Ooo booyyyyy that badge looks sooo dumb 🤦🏾♂️
