Man, when that singer starts doin his thing for the first time + RJD2 track = Makes me feel so blue and eternal at the same time!!! This makes me go nuts! Luv it!!!
Prefuse 73, daudeldus, flying lotus, fourtet, dj shadow and rjd2. Where would I be without these great groups? My life wouldn't be the same for sure. Thank you for the uplaod.
Yeah man, one of my favourite RJ tracks ever. Samples are: Black Frost by Grover Washington Jr (Sax part). Silent Running Theme by David Matthews, from the film Silent Running (main hook). Memories Are Here To Stay by The Intruders (vocal). Don't know about the descending guitar part though.....that's at least 4 different records for one track. RJ is a fuckin god on the MPC!
I've owned this album for over 10 years and played it through well over 100 times.. how have I not heard this before!!! fucking car skips over it apparently.. Cool find!
You bought the later release which removed the hidden track. He did't have the rights to publish the track, but of course I'm glad he did. Of of my fave songs ever.
@cristofolon Sampling, much like what RJD2 does, involves recontextualising several pieces of music, and combining them to create a totally new song. The samples may be from numerous artists, but when "published", the new song is under RJ's name. The credit goes to him as the recording artist. A remix can take an existing, modern song, and re-work elements to create either a house or dubstep remix, for example. The credit goes to the original recording artist, but with an "RJD2 remix" credit.
I released it originally on my record label - Battersea Park Music - I still have vinyl 12"s available, pressed in the UK - PM me if anyone is interested in purchasing a copy!
Hey AfexNine.....Listened to my Deadringer album start to finish, and also checked out 'work' still havent found it!!! Thanks anyway man, I'll have to get a copy another way.
@coflip Well, I guess samples are those little snippets of music that producers lift from another artist's body of work, which is then manipulated, sequenced into a particular order, and sometimes combined with other samples to create a new piece of music. Often, samples are taken out of context completely, so a piece of progressive rock or soul is turned into hip hop or drum and bass, for example.
Listening to this makes me gutted that this was cut from later pressings. :/ (due to legal issues with the samples, btw) I just bought the album on Amazon and it's not on.
If this was on an album, then RJD2 holds a copyright over the sound recording itself, you would need to obtain a license to use this track in such a fashion. The terms and cost of said license can vary, and are determined by the owner of the copyright.
You are gone. I'm so all alone. Here's what's left of my happy home. "She'll be back" That's what i said As i stare at the ceiling. 'Cause i need you baby.
If I would like to write a rap, based on this awesome tune, and record it together with it - how would it work out legally? Any one? peace love n ice cream
mm. I understand. according to a lawer i know, music law sais that its okey to "steal" a part of a melody or a whole beat.. as long as you have refered it to the creating artist (RJD2). Im aware of the fact that this isnt a beat. its a track. but if I reccord it with a rap, does it "become" a beat then? legally i meen? and can I there for use it? ps. sorry for my bad spelling, im swedish, stupid and fucked up cause of a bad hang over.. cliché, huh? ds.
are you talking about sampling? because I'm pretty sure you still need legal consent in order to use a part of it.. mind you, i could be wrong.. but I wouldn't record over this and then expect RJD2 not to care.. which is why I advised you to ask him.. good luck, hope you figure it out..
If you're reading this... You're not alone. It'll get better - I promise you that.
One of my favorite tracks from an incredible album
brings me back to 5 years ago, crazy how songs can do that
Man, when that singer starts doin his thing for the first time + RJD2 track = Makes me feel so blue and eternal at the same time!!!

I used to put this song on repeat, listen to it a few times and just chill the fuck out....sometimes I'd freestyle over it. RJ is the fuckin man.

Just do a search for Wikipedia's page on Deadringer, RJ's first album. It lists most of the samples that were used. Or check out Who Sampled

The only thing I don't like is the outro.
I think it doesn't fit with the song's mood.
But that sax is good.

@coflip Is that a serious question?
i really like the beat....with the vocals it gets a little bit too kitchy for my taste.
but great track anyway: 5*

this song aint on dead ringer
You can do anything you want as long as you don't go public with it. Hell, go rob a bank. Just don't go public with it.
yo can only cop 12 bars off a beat without permission...thats the rule, or just chop it up, like hiphop producers do
i dont think u need his permission if you just use the song for yourself and dont go public with it.
