I had a similar moment of recognition in a favorite tV show that I've watched through many times. There is a character in it that is supposed to be so forgettable that people don't notice her standing almost beside them, which I know is terrible but it's done in a very funny way. Then one day I read a comment that said (paraphrased) "she's so forgettable that no one even noticed that they changed actresses," and only then did I recognize that had happened and could not stop laughing.
