I just discovered this last night and have been playing it on repeat ever since.. I feel like I've found a strange, paradigm-shifting, undiscovered fruit. New possibilities and pathways are aligning in my mind.. It's just so euphoric and brilliant down to every last detail.
I read somewhere that it's about how there's a whole industry around pleasure so the elevator is the high while the manufacturers are the product designers/suppliers of the elevator.
Ridiculous comment. It shares none of the same musical motifs, it's just another straight 8th-notes bass part, there's been tens of thousands of those.
Back when i was young I was cycling around south America, and two days as i was climbing to 2nd highest city in the world (potosi) i listened to this for two days on repeat. No people, only alpacas, me and elevators manufacturers.....
Witty, bizzare and eclectic trip, easily AOTY. I give Black Ballerina 5/5 but the best is yet to come. I have no words to express how good "White freckles" and "Not enough violence" are, you just gotta experience it. Ariel, you beautiful chameleon, you did it again!

It takes an uncanny talent like Ariel Pink to make a six minute track feel like half that length. To my ears he has obviously been inspired by Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody - its multilayeredness. One of my personal faves of 2014. I wish I had his hair.
At first I did not understand the art/music this man was playing. I simply dismissed it as a fella with pink hair. Now I went through Pandora's curated playlist "A-Z of Ariel Pink". Discovered pleasant tracks. Did I mention that I even tripped with his music; very pleasant vibe, like you are listening to some groovy underground stuff.

This is honestly one of the best songs ever written. The chorus is so posh and sexy but also playful, what a bop.
❤
I love how the guy says "she's a topless DANCER lad!" like it's the most unheard of possible thing..
I think he says it more in a "what's better than that" way

what goes up must come down?
I thought it might have a sexual meaning, which would fit in with the theme of the track!
Alan Parson's project "What Goes Up" goes surprisingly well with this song
