I'm planning on posting a new video every Wednesday at 9am. I'm definitely going to pull Ben back in though, at the very least he needs to make a cameo appearance from time to time!
Ben, your videos helped me prepare to move to China several years ago. Since then, my life has changed immensely, and I can't overstate how important learning this amazing and often times profound language has been. I have you in part to thank for your role in that journey. I hope you and your family stay well!
Dood, Jared I'm super excited for the new life coming to the channel. I followed Ben many years ago, but was sad to see the absence. I saw Shen Yun in my town, and by default I saw Jared too! I've been prodded to learn Chinese for many years, but have been scared to take the plunge. Hopefully the expertise and depth you bring will be the impetus I need to learn Chinese NOW! Seriously, anything Chinese is welcome! Language, History, Poetry, Cooking, anything. The medicine degree is really interesting. I had written it off as old world superstition, so I'm excited at the idea of learning how I was wrong.
Great! I realized most people learn Chinese to learn Chinese culture, so my plan is to introduce Chinese culture and the language that goes with it. Summer is coming and I hope to have more time to dive in and create videos. Stay tuned and let me know if there is anything in particular you want me to talk about. All the topics you mentioned above are on my list 👍
I am from Saudi Arabia l study Chinese language in university. I loved this channel, I'm so glad I found people who are learning like me Thank you /谢谢 !
It’s a little bit wrong about 颠儿,here 我颠儿了,颠 actually doesn’t mean crazy. It means the action between walk and run or say run slowly. In Chinese words 连跑带颠, this 颠 has the same meaning.
You're absolutely right! 撤退 chè tuì means "to withdraw from battle" or "retreat." 撤了 chè le comes from that, and is a very common phrase simply meaning "I'm leaving."
I am a high school and college level Chinese teacher, textbook writer (very different kind of textbook, cartoon story based). Fun, relevant, and engaging teaching methods and well-designed materials are the most important for me to motivate students and keep them going, into much deeper and higher levels. I have been using Ben's videos from time to time to highlight my teaching since maybe 10-something years ago? I tell every year's new students "Ben is my hero". Love the humor. Ben, you are my Chinese learners' rockstar for so long now. Your programs were thoughtful and enjoyable with good quality. We were excited to see you back for a while, then sad to see you go. I just saw these videos with Jared, I am excited, love his perfect pronunciation (amazing!), solid knowledge background, and serious, correct, fruitful teaching (NOT timewasting). I sense that this channel will continue to produce high-quality and interesting learning materials for learners worldwide, to introduce fun facts about the language and culture efficiently. I enjoy all the videos so far, e.g. 一箭双雕 is very cool, I often also teach "一举两得“ as an option too. To me, efficiency is essential :) Good luck with Ben's next pursuit, and love to see Jared's appearance. Good luck to Jared and to Learn Chinese Now! Thank you for taking care of your audients. Please don't take the old videos off youtube.
Thanks for your words of encouragement! It's really exciting to get this channel going again. We'll definitely keep all the videos from before, and pull Ben back from time to time ;-)
@@learnchinesenow haha, I forgot I left this comment, for some reason, I didn't see your reply. I left another one on your newest video that I just saw. Sorry, another long repetitive comment, I guess I am too excited about your work. Great work!
The ambiguity of 走了 is actually the same in English. It's like you are saying someone is gone. It could mean the person just left, or the person passed away.
Wasai ♥️ what a pleasant surprise i feel so happy to see something new after a long break on this channel keep it up jianchi nuli as am learning Chinese language from the depth with all my heart & soul i keep on adding new expressions in my conversations to sound more authentic & ben di ren 😊 ai zhongwen jiushi ai zhongguo jiayou jiayou! Great! I am hoping we can upload a new video every Wednesday. Will also do some shorts and post memes to the Community page, so be sure to check those out as well!
It's hilarious how some words just enter languages. While teaching in Taiwan there was a rule that you couldn't speak Chinese in class, and one time I told my students "bye bye" and they said "teacher, no Chinese!" absolutely forgetting/possibly not knowing it was originally English.
In Taiwanese you might say, “Gyang” (2nd tone), particularly in a casual setting, such as with coworkers grabbing lunch when it’s time to get back to the office, etc.
Nope, but when I was in Denmark last, someone told me about a song that apparently all the kids know, it translates to something about stay away from the Madsens...hopefully that's just some old Danish myth...
It was a pleasure having you Ben and you will be missed! I am grateful the videos are staying up and am excited for the future.

Feels like the end of an era, but its nice to see that the channel is active again

Yes 👍 the pronunciation is the same, but you're absolutely right, different character, different meaning 👍👍
Sorry you’re leaving Ben 😢. But glad Jared is here to make more videos 😄👏. I hear chè 撤 quite frequently in historical dramas when armies retreat.

The new logo almost looks as good as the real Jared.

That's really interesting. Do you know if there is a Chinese character that goes with that?
Hello Jared! Hopefully we shall see many awesome videos in the year of the Rabbit 🐇
That's the plan!

@@learnchinesenow I've never ever heard of such a song -- I think they might have been pulling your leg.
Hahahaha, he's probably telling all his friends how he tricked a Madsen from America into believing this ridiculous song
Hou hui yo ch'i.
