    Hello. Thank you for these Chinese sayings. For the saying : " kill two birds with one stone". I also heard the expressions 一石二鸟 (Yīshí'èrniǎo ). It's it correct? Thanks.

      没错,你说得对。一石二鸟,这与一箭双雕是一个意思。这个词的意思是,用一个措施同时解决了两个或更多的问题。

      @@lilyinthevalley8046 As for 狗 眼看人低 ^
      Literally, judging human from a dog's eyes. Because dogs are usually much shorter than human, their eyes default view is at a much lower level than human eyes. 狗眼看人低 means judging people like what a dog would do, i.e., from a much lower level. In other words you act like a snob but in reality you are nothing.

    English spelling to match English words is bad enough as is but why does the English spelling of Chinese not match? It makes it so much harder to master the pronunciation of words. I would love it if people ( maybe you guys) would just throw those spellings out and spell the words to how they are actually pronounced. It's not like there is English spelling of CHinese everywhere in China for that to cause any issues.

      It's not possible to spell x, zh, c, z, yu, lü, and a lot more in "English". Not to mention to tones. If it were possible it would've been done already. Pinyin is as close as it gets

      Was just planning on making a channel about Chinese language and traditional Chinese culture. Wasn't planning on doing an episode about Falun Gong, but since traditional Chinese culture is filled with many types of spiritual practices, especially meditation practices, I can do an episode of you like. Maybe clear up some misconceptions.

    Is there an equivalent for don't judge a book by it's cover? Love your work Ben! 🙌

    • @learnchinesenow
      @learnchinesenow  Год назад +1

      以貌取人 is the expression basically meaning to judge a book by its cover. So you would want to add something like 不要 or 別 in front of it for it to mean don't judge a book by it's cover: 別以貌取人
