But what about the mothers. Remember Somali identity culturally comes from the father. so in theory if a Somali man has a kid with a Icelandic woman the child would be culturally accepted as Somali due to their Qabil being passed down from the father, and if the child is a son he can also have a child with a non Somali and his child will also be considered Somali as they too have a qabil passed down from their father even though that are only 25% Somali ethnically. If a Somali woman were to marry a non Somali her children would not be considered Somali as the mother cannot pass down her qabil(Somali tribe) if anyone was wondering😂

"My entire life, I've just been known to be a black person." This is one of the biggest tragedies of the "Western" concept of "Blackness". It ignores just how wide, varied and full of different cultures that branch of the human genetic tree is.
Same! I don't have African Ancestry and I'm an American (generational Texan). They called all of us African Americans. But we (my family) were mostly Indian tribes, sprinkled with French, Spanish, German, Scottish, Irish, and Dutch. Remember, we each have about 128 5th great grandparents. I followed the documentation along with DNA matches (my relatives alive today). Some of my Irish and Scottish ancestors were considered "People of Color". Check out - Dobson, David. "Directory of Scots Banished to the American Plantations", 1650 - 1775. After they served their labor contracts they were considered "Free Whites" and "Free People of Color". They didn't teach that in US history! There are ship logs, immigration, church documents, military records, and more! Irish Quakers immigrated to Pennsylvania in the 1680s from Antrim, Northern Ireland (Glasford and McGeachan families). Also many French and Dutch married into American Indian families (including Algonquin Tribe) in Canada giving us the makeup of many Alabama and Louisiana Acadian Cajuns/Creole families. I'd advise everyone to build your own family tree and read the documents. Everyone is NOT from Africa. Btw No shade to Africans. It just is what it is.
That is not exclusive of the "Western" world. That happens in all cultures and ethnicities: you are very detailed in the classification of what is close to you, and you put more distant things in very generic buckets. A few years ago I read an article about how irrelevant it was for Chinese tourists that European tourism companies listed the countries visited in some planned tour, because for them "Europe" was all the same thing. They couldn't care less if the tour was 100% France or France + Italy + Spain + Germany... (But they were interested in how many cities they would visit: "20 cities" was better than "10 cities".)
@GazilionPT I agree. Humans like things "neat," so it's easy to generalize. The issue is that France, Italy, and Spain have differences but are all still European. Even their languages all descend from Latin. We share nothing under "Black." Not the same history, countries, languages, music, foods, .... Nothing. It's like lumping Mexicans and Asians together because they're "beige" and like rice. Somebody would get slapped for the insult! It even sounds ridiculous. They share nothing in common. It would be correct that a person could go to Spain, France, or Italy and still call it a trip to Europe. They are in the same family. You cannot call me or my people Africans or Black, and it be the same. What is the history of the country "Black"? HELL, AFRICA HAS NO FLAG! It's MANY countries with many flags. Our regular documents for work in the US, medical, etc. asks for "race", but White is just White or Caucasian. You may get White/not Latino, but they don't ask country= Irish American, Scottish American, British American, Norwegian American, German American. Nope. But Black is synonymous with an entire continent, thus making us "African" American. These DNA percentages can't tell you borders for real or even what group of people lived there 1000s of years ago. Populations mixed a lot, so there would be no "pure" blood sources for the DNA companies to collect. Follow your family's paper trail. The 99.9 percent is laughable because these DNA companies got blood from the people in those regions Today, that's not the original ancient populations. 🙄 Samoli by definition is "Afro and Asians". So at least 2 peoples mixed. Then there were so many different peoples and tribes trading in the region Before Christ, but there was no mixing? Arabs traveled to Somalia and married into the local Dir clan... AKA Mixing. Modern man and Neanderthals intermingled while living in close proximity and trading. It's the most human thing to do for survival. "Pure" bloodlines die out from disease and incest.
The variation of, for example, skin tone in African population is not just due to "external influences" (like intermixing with Amazigh, Arabs, Europeans, etc.). Africa is huge, so different environmental pressures occur in different parts of the continent. Also, because it's the cradle of humans, there is much more genetic diversity in Africa than outside of Africa.
Yes. For example the San peoples in Southern Africa who used to inhabit a huge part of Africa aren't as dark as Bantu-descended people. Or some people in East Africa are even darker than Bantu-descended people.
@@shafsteryellow It would be as you say if the phenotype of people was directly related only to migration, but it is not: there is also adaptation to climatic needs. There are many different climatic conditions in Africa. The same is true in Europe. Southern Europeans have black hair even without having mixed with black Africans.
@@shafsteryellow back migration has occurred for tens of thousands of years. When did the change occur? Back migrations bring back genes not necessarily phenotypes that already existed in Africa.

Somalis, Ethiopians and Eritreans are Cushitic not arabs.. The somali language is one of the oldest languages spoken in Africa. There’s linguistic similarities between Egyptian and Cushitic, a branch Somali is under, derive back to the same proto-language as well as genetically similar too. Queen Hatsepshut, referenced the land of punt being the origins of the Ancient Egyptians, the land of "gods" There’s also written historical evidence by the ancient Egyptian’s that they did trading with the Somalis. So in other words we are not arabs and our history dates back 1000’s of years before the arabs came to east Africa.
Queen Hatshepsut wasn't an historian, she know fuck all about Egyptian history, and I doubt she knew how to write or read. Arabs are not Arabs. They are Arabians, Levantines, Egyptians, Tunisians, Algerian, Moroccans, Mesopotamians... Somali didn't exist as a people when Egyptians sailed to Punt. You don't understand dna, the "Arabs" that are mentioned are farmers and grazers that came from the land that is called the Levant and Arabia but thousands of years before the present populations of the Levant and Arabia existed.

The labels Black, White, Yellow, and Red are essentially Western constructs. In most other parts of the world, people do not define themselves using these terms. He emphasizes the "Black" label because many Africans, particularly those from Central and West Africa, where the Atlantic Slave Trade had its most significant impact, have told him that he is not "Black" (or one of them). This identity is mainly associated with Bantu people. Since he is a Cushite and looks different from them, they effectively deny him the "Black" identity. The problem lies in these simplistic color-coded labels, which fail to capture the complexity and diversity of human populations. For example, a Turk and a Swedish person, despite having little in common genetically, culturally or ethnically, are both categorized as "White" based on skin tone. Meanwhile, a Dravidian individual, who may have a darker complexion than a Nilot, does not fall under the "Black" category. This reductionist approach is a primitive way to view and understand the rich tapestry of human diversity.
No, he uses Black because he lives in America with African Americans who think they own the Black label. The labels you refer to isn't Western constructs. You are spouting racism, attributing certain bad things to particular groups. Besides the randomness of recombination, the fact that only about 11% of his DNA is assigned to Ethiopia, when according to him his father is "half Ethiopian" may be explained, among other things, by the fact that many Ethiopians are actually ethnically Somalian.

I checked out and I’m watching it through you 😂🤦🏻♀️ It’s really depressing when it comes to the whole, “X% Black,” because first I’m asking “what’s that based on, just how much of a % of African you are?,” and then because people like myself have been trying to explain how “white” and “black” are abstract social constructs-Early colonial Americans didn’t see Germans as “white,” and then we have the issue of Irish immigrants not being seen as “white,” and then Italians not seen as “white,” but then eventually they’ve all become “white” for various reasons, none of which are related to ethnicity. For instance, you could totally have very high percentages of African DNA and pass as “white,” in fact, as the case was for Pokimane, you might even be “called out” for appropriating a “black” hair style because you were so white-passing that the assumption was you are white, when her Pokimane’s natural untreated hair is very curly because she’s North African. The cultural significance of “black” is in the reclamation of personal sovereignty and bodily autonomy, (something we still have an issue, especially right now, with when it comes to trans people, like myself, and women.) The recognition that “whiteness” in-itself, is oppressive, and it has nothing to do with skin color-But, where skin color does come into play is the real-world, material affects of racism, (specifically the systemic affects on people as a tool to oppress them with, etc.) *The dichotomy is present in how “white power” was a racist reaction to the “black power” movement which sought to reclaim individual and community power and ultimately liberate black people, (similar to queer liberation movements and our reclaiming of both terms that had been used as slurs but also individual and community power-Black people experienced “red lining” while queer people were also forced into small corners of the nation, San Francisco is an infamous example of that for queer people because it was a naval port where queer sailors would be left after being discharged from service-A community formed around that.) There is just so much history and empowerment around terms like “black” and “queer,” etc., and instead of that I see videos like this kid’s video and the Jubilee video where not only is all the nuance lost but they’re literally playing into the white-power structure and accepting a narrative given to them by their oppressors-Not “white people” but a white supremacist power-structure the nation was founded on. It just makes things so much harder to talk about. As the result portion started, I was very intrigued because I don’t think I’ve ever seen percentages that high in one of these videos, and then, as stated in this reaction, the video just spirals completely out of control.
Ancestry make more sense..it's similar to GEDmatch. That Somali percentage is called Sudan Nilotic while the middle eastern percentage is natufian. The North Africa portion is iberomaurisian
80% of Somali are E-M35 carriers (Subclades : E-V32,E-V22,E-V6,E-M281 & E-V92), E-M35 is far more common among North Africans, Middle Eastern and Europeans than among Subsaharan African (Bantou populations). 10% of Somali are T-CTS2214 carriers, a middle Eastern male lineage. Somalis people are definitely are mix of Middle Eastern, East African and and Central/West African old populations at various proportions.

Black is a phenotype description. Herodotus was the oldest historian to label Black people when he described North Africans and Western Asians prior to Greek conquest and Roman conquests that were the first non-Black people to whiten Western Asia and North Africa then followed about a host of other non-Black people such as Turks (not to be confused with Anatolians who were a mix of Black and brown Indians before the Greek era), Mamluks (Eastern European mercenaries), and others out of Europe and Asia. When East Africans have Eurasian results it really is East African because before the Greek era, Western Asians were heavily East and West Africans and also populations out of India which is precisely what Herodotus wrote and genetics prove that the oldest populations of Western Asia were phenotypically Black with genetics matching modern Sub-Saharan Africa and India.

It’s even worse than that. It’s like categorizing a Chinese, Irish, and Saudi Arabian person as the same race just because their ancestors lived on the same land mass (Eurasia) and their skin tones are kinda the same.
The only thing I would correct is the Kingdom of Kush likely had Nilo-Saharan speakers mostly not Cushitic branch speakers but Kushites still would have been related East Africans.
When people talk about the percentages of African Americans they need to note the context, as more times than not often it was not by choice of the ancestor (including with Native Americans, who depending on the tribe was just as bad or worse than other when it came to enslaving black people). Also, one of the things that is not talked about is if African American dna results come up Liberia (as since that country was founded by the formally enslaved, the results could be from those decedents who left the USA).

White and mixed race people in North Africa are not indigenous. They don't exist prior to Greco-Roman conquests of North Africa (and before that Western Asia). So he's accurate that African Americans on average are about 75% Black on average as Black people is the indigenous phenotype(s) of the entire continent. Any African who is not Black, there are historical events that explain when their non-Black ancestors arrived in Africa. For instance, Hollfelder et. al. 2017 found Copts and "Modern Egyptians" are about 70% European ancestry autosomally. That should not be surprising given historical ly Egypt and coastal North Africa have had constant waves of Europeans into Africa since the Alexandrine conquest in 425 BCE. So let's not pretend Africans had other phenotypes other than Black because they didn't.

Check out -
Dobson, David.

Wrong it's from back migration
@@shafsteryellow It would be as you say if the phenotype of people
was directly related only to migration, but it is not: there is also adaptation to climatic needs.

Queen Hatsepshut, referenced the land of punt being the origins of the Ancient Egyptians, the land of "gods"
There’s also written historical evidence by the ancient Egyptian’s that they did trading with the Somalis.

It’s really depressing when it comes to the whole, “X% Black,” because first I’m asking “what’s that based on, just how much of a % of African you are?,” and then because people like myself have been trying to explain how “white” and “black” are abstract social constructs-Early colonial Americans didn’t see Germans as “white,” and then we have the issue of Irish immigrants not being seen as “white,” and then Italians not seen as “white,” but then eventually they’ve all become “white” for various reasons, none of which are related to ethnicity.
The cultural significance of “black” is in the reclamation of personal sovereignty and bodily autonomy, (something we still have an issue, especially right now, with when it comes to trans people, like myself, and women.) The recognition that “whiteness” in-itself, is oppressive, and it has nothing to do with skin color-But, where skin color does come into play is the real-world, material affects of racism, (specifically the systemic affects on people as a tool to oppress them with, etc.) *The dichotomy is present in how “white power” was a racist reaction to the “black power” movement which sought to reclaim individual and community power and ultimately liberate black people, (similar to queer liberation movements and our reclaiming of both terms that had been used as slurs but also individual and community power-Black people experienced “red lining” while queer people were also forced into small corners of the nation, San Francisco is an infamous example of that for queer people because it was a naval port where queer sailors would be left after being discharged from service-A community formed around that.)
There is just so much history and empowerment around terms like “black” and “queer,” etc., and instead of that I see videos like this kid’s video and the Jubilee video where not only is all the nuance lost but they’re literally playing into the white-power structure and accepting a narrative given to them by their oppressors-Not “white people” but a white supremacist power-structure the nation was founded on. It just makes things so much harder to talk about.
As the result portion started, I was very intrigued because I don’t think I’ve ever seen percentages that high in one of these videos, and then, as stated in this reaction, the video just spirals completely out of control.

I'm from Somaliland. Those 23andme and myancestory dna test are only from the last 300 years. If he really wants to know more he should upload his dna results into the genomelink and there they will go much further than the past 300 years. This dude will then have a way less African dna but he will be mixed with Southern European, Asian, North African and other parts of the world. That was my result too.
Somaliland is a state within somalia like Galmudug or Puntland ect
@skp8748 the 2 countries Somaliland and Somalia united in 1960. If you are an uneducated prick I can't do anything about that.
5:40 idk how u can call urself a geneologist whilst grouping bantu/nilotics with somali cushites. that would be akin to saying austroneasians and papuans are genetically 'indonesians' solely due to their proximity
If he did his tree, he might run across that one odd ball place. I found bunches of people in Mexico and Peru for my .03 DNA results. It did take a while, however. I didn't expect to find it. This is only the third 100% results I've seen in videos.
My skin color is Somali.

I like his happy demeanour. DNA is very real and I notice more non Europeans taking these tests because we see the updates for the rest of us.
Mexican is possible because they have Spanish genes and Spain is not far from north africa.Africa. so it is possible some genes exist between Mexicans and Somalis.
I did 23 & me and I got 100% somali
Please upload your raw DNA results onto GEDmatch DNA to get a clear picture. My DNA showed 100% Somali until I uploaded my DNA results onto GEDmatch DNA and found out my family was originated from Badawi tribe in Middle East.

Ye the phone call was really cringe, ruined the video.
16:07 stop playing the victim card. Nothing to do with your skin colour
Arab means mixed in Hebrew it’s definition is H-6151 to mix.
No it doesn't 😂
People still don't understand what being black means 🥱🤔
Niger-congo people and those mixed with them
It was funny up to the call
Its a myth/idea that Cushitic-speaking peoples like Rwandan Tutsis kenyan Massai, Oromo, Somalis, Ethiopians, Eritreans and related groups are simply Arabs is misleading and oversimplifies a rich and complex history that stretches back thousands of years before the existence of modern arabs
Around 4,000-5,000 years ago, Cushitic-speaking peoples like Somalis and Ethiopians developed their identity through a rich blend of Proto-Nilotic 👩🏿 African pastoralists, back to Africa Natufians 👨🏽 originally from the Levant, and Iberomaurusian North African hunter-gatherers. We inherited their tall stature from Nilotic ancestors. The slim 👃 Leptorrhine nose and soft Jileec hair from Iberomaurusians and Natufians. These interactions occurred long before Arab existence and the rise of Islam
Africa is the most diverse continent on Earth, home to the largest number of languages and ethnic groups. It has over 2,000 distinct languages spoken across its 54 countries and is home to over 3,000 ethnic groups, each with unique cultures, histories, and traditions. This immense diversity makes Africa a vibrant and complex mosaic of human society..
My dna input
Somalis and Ethiopians descend from Proto Nilotic 👩🏿 and 👨🏽natufians Northern African hunter gatherers also iberomaurusian mix

Poor customer service lady...
Why’s all the people from banadir always 100% Somali? I thought he was gonna be more Arab, looks very reer xamar.
Not really, when the xamar cadcads and barwanis do it they get different percentages. So it’s based on the ethnic somalis in banadir like the Hawiyes, daroods, rahwaynes etc
