The stick snapping issue was fixed by a community member and will be enabled in future MuOS and Knulli releases. The mad lad managed to hack the kernel and tweak it up to make them work well. This fix would be applicable to 35XX-H and 40XX too.
I would actually love this. Even if they replaced the analog stick with a flat circlepad like the 3DS just so it can fold into an 40XXSP form factor, it would still be great.
Even if I don't need a new handheld or a mini PC right now, I still watch all RGC's reviews - with a snack and drink ofcourse. Keep up the good work, Russ!
The best handheld gaming channel ever, I really enjoy watching all videos (addicted to it)... and based on it's reviews I made my decision to choose one to buy last year and I'm enjoying it all the time... really thank you ❤
People need to realize they aren’t releasing these with the intention of having a single person own every one of them, they are releasing so many devices with the same chipset to corner every aspect of the market so no matter what the consumer is looking for in a handheld they have an anbernic option to buy. They’re trying to become the only handheld company and it’s a pretty good strategy
It does seem odd that people get mad about Anbernic keep giving future customers more options, by this point the sales during a launch window probably more than cover the costs of the new shell design and then new releases just act as advertising to the range as a whole after that, somebody might visit their site interested in one of them and come away having bought a different one entirely.
Nobody does plastic as good as Ambernic does. The white one just looks fantastic! Something about the plastic Ambernic makes feels leagues better than other devices.
Retroid's stuff is usually really good too and weirdly Anbernic seems to do worse plastics on their more expensive models for some reason known only to them with many reviewers being critical of the fingerprint magnet plastic on the black rg556.
I was grabbing something in my kitchen, as soon as you said, let's do a quick audio test. I got an ad for tacos with very lively salsa music, I immediately turned around to see what game that music was from lmao, I was thinking those speakers were crazy good.
I have to admit, I have always been a horizontal device guy, but I actually Ike this device. This finally might be an Anbernic device I will pick up! Thanx Russ!
I'm hoping this starts a trend of more 4-in versus 3.5-in devices. I definitely don't need this but that all white one is looking really cool and really tempting
I will say it again: They should try to make a 2 display device just like the 3DS. The display they use are better than the TNs on a 3DS. So, having that will be a dream. People will be able to play any DS family game properly.
@chemicalburrito782 - No, but someone else might. And the community is taking care of the "software improvements" so if someone could do the hardware, we might be able to get something. Personally, with all of the handhelds I have now, or have tried and then sold, I'm just waiting for that dual-screen DS/3DS device. My Trimui Smart Pro is my favorite, and if they beefed up the internals and added a touchscreen, that would be a no-brainer for me.
@@sfoldy The problem is that Anbernic's not going to make a dual-screen device with a second screen that basically doesn't do anything. So the software support is going to have to come from Anbernic here. Maybe they could have the "display" split over two screens for something H700-based? So the "screen" the device sees is 640x960, effectively. Not sure how hard that'd be for them to implement, though. There is a device that can do what you want already, though ... but it's that Ayaneo Flip DS thing. Pricey. (Or maybe a Galaxy Z Flip with a controller? Also pricey.)
@@chemicalburrito782 I agree with you, but I'm suggesting someone else, like Retroid, Powkiddy, or Trimui might do this first. More than likely it's going to be an Android device to better support dual screens (and the touch screen). Really the problem is in the fact that the DS/3DS were unique in their designs and therefore game development had to accommodate something not found anywhere else. Many games for these platforms, including first party, struggled to find a use for the second screen. It served a purpose for some games, but is unnecessary otherwise. The best design for this is going to be something like what you said - a 640x960 vertical screen, which is good for DS/3DS and....vertical shooters. That's about it. So unless the screen could be designed to rotate to go horizontal or flip open like the DS/3DS devices, there isn't much incentive to design something like this. It's too much of a niche scenario. I know of the Ayaneo device you mentioned, but it was way out of my budget. Maybe a decent widescreen device will come along.

In four days we could be seeing a new Anbernic handheld every eight hours until they are coming every four minutes. We should witness a double release within seven days.
What a great job Anbernic has given us! 😅🤩 What an incredible, beautiful device, despite being one more internally, I like this idea of having options for us to choose from! This one within the line with the "complete(Wi-Fi/BT buit-in)" H700 seems like an easy choice for a vertical device, the RG35XXH the horizontal choice and the SP version the choice to carry in your pocket! Thank you very much for the excellent work, it brings a lot of inspiration to my beginnings here!

Russ must be trying to utilize that "island breeze AC" in the studio, cause you never hear the Canadian "Retro Gamers" mention ambient heat. That's a feature in their neck of the woods. ;D
I now finally get the Anbernic making too many products problem. I wanted something with a joystick so I picked up the 35H on prime day, even though I prefer vertical. now this comes out a month later and I know my wife will not be impressed if I order another device that does literally the exact same thing lol
I am so happy that youre working on a shader video. I've done a lot of research all over reddit to get some shaders working well with my 35xx+, and I really wish someone had compiled all that information into a video
Music to my ears, when I heard that you'll be making a series of videos on shaders et al. This is an area of the retro gaming emulation world, which, although I've been in this world for some years now, I still find myself very discombobulated when dealing with shaders and scaling. Looking forward to that 😊
With as many devices as they make, you would think they could do one that has 6 face buttons (for Sega and N64 c buttons), dual analog sticks, and can play up to PS2 and GC. I would probably sell all my other devices for that.
I've installed retro apps on my very old Huawei T10 tablet connected to a small 8BitDo Micro controller so i'm not even interested in buying these handhelds; yet i still watch every single video :D
Honestly this device seems perfect for me when I have some down time or when traveling. I really like how clean the overall design looks, definitely feels like its own thing rather than a knockoff
Looking forward to the filters video! I felt like there were so many tips about what core/shader/filter/overlay to use that I've seen sprinkled across various videos over the years, but when I bought a bunch of SP's as gifts and needed to set them up, there wasn't one unified place to get all that information. I did find some tidbits like "lcd3x for handhelds" or "interpolation>sharp-bilinear for SNES and PSX" I was never sure if those tips were specific to some other handheld's screen or performance limitations.
I feel like at this point we should really have a mechanism where you press a button or flip a switch and the stick shoots up a couple centimeters, then you hold the switch or button and press down on the stick to click it into its "pocketable" state.
@@Xbob42 the sticks don’t really affect the pocket ability too much. Nobody will ever release a handheld that has sticks movable by a mechanism, more moving parts equals more possibilities for failure. A joystick that sticks out an 1/8 of an inch will be more useful to you than a stick that no longer works because the mechanism wore out or broke
@@RockYoMomsWorld I would literally never use either of those sticks. It's not a "I'll sometimes use this low profile joycon trash," it's "I'd rather just have a model without a stick at that point."
Wow! I own a MM+ and I absolutely love it (especially with Onion Os), I just wish there was a larger version (I would instantly buy a "MM++" if it existed ).... WELL this is exactly what it should look like with a 4 inch screen. Anbernic was much faster than Miyoo to make this device, especially for us older people in their 30s-40s who want a bigger screen and have bigger hands. Also the minimal bezel is FINALLY something they invested in, now this looks like a 2024 handheld (whereas a device with bezels looks much cheaper and older). I might actually get it. Great price and value
The funny thing is that despite the constant Anbernic releases, they still haven’t done everything possible, mainly sth like a 405V with PS2 capabilities. I approve of their constant releases, eventually they’ll stumble upon my wish list
It's so close to being able to, which sucks. It can handle some gamecube games, but it's certainly not a perfect experience. I was gonna get the RG Cube since it's a vertical form factor that can handle gamecube and PS2 pretty well, but it has the same crappy joycon analog sticks with the wonky tracking that snaps to the cardinal directions which I really can't stand, so I just saved up some more and splurged on an Odin 2 Mini and never looked back lol.
I would hope that the Linux handheld makers start using 1024x768 screens, which would provide at least 3x integer scaling for virtually all sprite-based game systems.
I'm playing my RG353V since day one and still loving it! Been on it almost 6 hours just today. Lol love seeing all the other ones though. I'm here for it!
By the speed they roll new devices They may be out with it in a month 😅. that would be awesome instead of the Miyoo Mini Flip which I was initially waiting for
Cant wait for your video on shaders and overlays. Maybe an update on further details of retroarxh would be helpful too (i know you already did it a while ago but a little update would be much appreciate❤). Ive just sorted my trimui smart pro again to see if i needed to update to this rg40v, but the dpad on the trimui is near perfect to me, and so is the screen. So i will pass on this one and maybe will wait for your review of the new retroid mini. ❤
I'm picking this up, but I'm still crossing my fingers that they release a stunning vertical handheld with no analog sticks at some point. That's the dream handheld for me.
Honestly at this point it’s a Running Gag with the Anbernic Line Up for awhile. You can never jinx of buying another handheld and all of sudden they released another one next month. So far the RG35XX SP got me interested due to how it’s inspired by the GBA SP which I used to owned.
At this point already have RG35XX H, Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, and Steamdeck OLED upgrade with a 2TB SSD (and older stuff, GPD XD and Nintendo New 3DS XL with custom firmware/emulators). Won't be getting anything else until there's a significant upgrade.
Finally a handheld that gets close to checking all the boxes: 4 inch, slim, powerful enough for anything up to ps1, and no analogs. If there was a way to remove the analog and print out a new cartridge front or patch the gap, I'd be all in!
Good review, Russ! This sounds like a great device! If I didn't already have a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, I would have seriously considered this device for my portable retro game needs!

Russ must be trying to utilize that "island breeze AC" in the studio, cause you never hear the Canadian "Retro Gamers" mention ambient heat. That's a feature in their neck of the woods. ;D
I got tired of retro game handheld release every now and then. But I still enjoy watching reviews like this!
Anbernic is only releasing so many devices to gain as much screentime on Russ' channel as possible for sure :D
He is on Anbernics payroll
Music to my ears, when I heard that you'll be making a series of videos on shaders et al. This is an area of the retro gaming emulation world, which, although I've been in this world for some years now, I still find myself very discombobulated when dealing with shaders and scaling. Looking forward to that 😊
With as many devices as they make, you would think they could do one that has 6 face buttons (for Sega and N64 c buttons), dual analog sticks, and can play up to PS2 and GC. I would probably sell all my other devices for that.
I've installed retro apps on my very old Huawei T10 tablet connected to a small 8BitDo Micro controller so i'm not even interested in buying these handhelds; yet i still watch every single video :D
the nostalgia just hit
Great video! Excited to get mine soon - jealous of your shipping speeds😁
Honestly this device seems perfect for me when I have some down time or when traveling. I really like how clean the overall design looks, definitely feels like its own thing rather than a knockoff
Love the blue (kinda hinting to purple?) color. Also looks very sleek!
That sounds like a lot of extra parts that will break😂
@@RockYoMomsWorld Maybe, but it would at least make the sticks usable for someone like me.
For a lot of these sticks, the grip pulls off anyway. So maybe just do that and put the grip in your coin pocket or somewhere else secure.
yayyyyyyy its out im buying this one as my first one
The design looks super sleek, Anbernic is evolving fast
The magic words were uttered: "The d-pad feels like a Super Nintendo controller..."
That really is the gold standard.
"Anbernic sent this device for review along with another one"
RG XX Cube?
Ha, sorry I just meant that they sent me two RG40XXVs 😎
lmao i see, so it's the white and blue
Haven't watched a video here in a while and the new camera work is very nice! Glad to see the presentation change and grow.
Retro Game Corps, I liked this video because it's awesome!
I would hope that the Linux handheld makers start using 1024x768 screens, which would provide at least 3x integer scaling for virtually all sprite-based game systems.
The Week has 7 Anbernics
I'm playing my RG353V since day one and still loving it! Been on it almost 6 hours just today. Lol love seeing all the other ones though. I'm here for it!
Count me in for those who would prefer this just not having an analog stick. The H model exists for that.
Yep, I’d see if I could blank that thing off without destroying it too much.
now im only waiting for RG40XX SP !!! what do you think ?
By the speed they roll new devices They may be out with it in a month 😅. that would be awesome instead of the Miyoo Mini Flip which I was initially waiting for
I literally got my RG35xxPlus yesterday after waiting 2weeks and now this comes out 🙃
Same, my 35 Plus is on the way and just watched this T_T
A horizontal version of this would be the best anbernic ever.
40xxh is a thing
boy do i have news for you
Rotating version with telescopic controller where you can switch between both. And with bendable screen for more real estate
@@damianabregba7476 Included Thermo nuclear reactor would be a massive plus.
@@timetraveler_0 I think I made myself forget it because of the disappointment.
Slow down Anbernic I’m having too many snacks and drinks
I'm picking this up, but I'm still crossing my fingers that they release a stunning vertical handheld with no analog sticks at some point. That's the dream handheld for me.
Dinners on boys!
Every time an Anbernic designer sneezes, a new handheld is born.
Russ, you're the goat
Oh man… I’m so excited for the overlays and shaders video! Can’t wait!!!
0:15 I stopped here
Honestly at this point it’s a Running Gag with the Anbernic Line Up for awhile. You can never jinx of buying another handheld and all of sudden they released another one next month.
So far the RG35XX SP got me interested due to how it’s inspired by the GBA SP which I used to owned.
I think It's finally time for Anbernic to emulate the DS type form factor
At this point already have RG35XX H, Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, and Steamdeck OLED upgrade with a 2TB SSD (and older stuff, GPD XD and Nintendo New 3DS XL with custom firmware/emulators). Won't be getting anything else until there's a significant upgrade.
Nice review! I especially enjoyed watching the size and weight comparisons portion of the video.
just got mine and the overall feel including software and hardware are amazing for the value
Love how the Anbernic advert shows this device playing Sega Saturn games smooth despite when i try them they just stutter.
Man, that blue is just beautiful!
@7:20 Russ performed a parry. Ok my life is now complete😁👍
That's the best looking Anbernic device they've made. Especially that indigo one!!! That RGB is niiiiiiice!
I already have a rg351V but the size of the screen of this one makes me want it ! Nice vidéo I love the face came that you do know it's pretty cool. I follow you for long timeand I find that your video are like the handled, constantly improving ! Nice work man.
watching this as hurricane hone passes along Big Island! Perfect video for a day like today
Im liking that its the evolution of the 351V with bigger screen and better chip
That is probably the first vertical handheld that has caught my interest.
You know, its kinda crazy that enough handhelds come out MONTHLY that you always have content to make.
This community wasn't joking about the release frequency. Just last night I was zeroing in on a retro handheld and felt pretty good about my options. Woke up to another good option...
