Pretty simple setup. Everything you need an nothing you don't. I got my October 2022 Orvis Fly Fishing Catalog in the mail today. I opened it up and Capt. Alvin Dedeaux was on the inside cover! Congrats man! May the weight of the cooler be the heaviest thing on YOUR mind!
Man oh man, Alvin, I enjoy your content always looking for it. I know you’ve talk about casting in the past. It was an average cast for redfish. If I’m not fishing every day I’m practicing my casting. Not just distance but accuracy. Thanks so much for all you do. You and the family stay well and safe☕️☕️👍
Very nice rig! Many folks have asked me over the years what the best setup is for our area and I always tell them whatever you have and are comfortable with. I am currently running a TFO Axium II 9’ 8wt (also a 7wt for specs) with an Orvis Mirage 7/8 spooled with the same 200+- yards of backing but with Rio 9wt. It’s extremely accurate and I can get a lot of line out with minimal to no false casting.
Nice...maybe I should follow the weather south, this past week in Northern Ontario the only thing that was consistent was rain. 1 smallie, 1 northern. Next week, Salmon River NY then west toward Lake Erie following the Ontario shoreline looking for salmon and early steelhead. When should I be in Texas?? haha, need to be in Colorado in three weeks.
Great information Alvin. Thanks a lot! I’ve been practicing for Reds with Carp around here. Got a 27” on my 5wt yesterday. What a fight. The first thing I think of when I land a big carp is..that felt like a redfish fight.😂 I’ll be hitting the salt in October, (taking 8wts) hopefully get my first Red on a fly. I’ve tied up lots of saltwater patterns. Have a great week Alvin 👍👍🎣🙂
Love your channel Alvin! I fish mostly largemouth bass like you but am getting in to in shore fishing for reds/snook. Wondering what your thoughts are on Orvis blackout 8wt 8 ft 5 inch ?
Will you please do a video on streamer retrieves? I've been chasing bass in a well stocked small lake and have good luck with a gurgler but zero bumps. I've tried multiple clouser type and a larger wooly bugger.
yo man, I have watched lots of your redfish videos. I am from Scotland and am about to go for some redfish tomorrow in Charleston SC. just wanted to say thanks for the tips and tricks. hopefully put them to good use tomorrow.
@Alvin Dedeaux great day put on the water. ghost town of fish today though. gutted, everything at them today flies, mud minows, jig heads everything. My guide was flabbergasted at the day. Great guy, knowledgeable as hell. he said he would take me back out to a different location on his dime to make up for it, so not a complete loss yet. 🐟😭

Thank you Alvin! Thank you for sharing your amazing expertise with us aspirational fly fishermen.

Was out at Rockport last week. Fished San Jose island. Caught some redfish what a blast! Paddle tails and a rat looking fly. Such fun
Nice!!
That Nautilus reel is very nice ! The purple and black color reminds this old New Orleans native of the Voodoo Loa ( Baron Samedi's ) colors .
Great info. Thanks for everything you do and share.
My pleasure!

From what I've seen those carp are harder to fool, good luck!

One of our guides got one and he loves it.
Hi Alvin. If you are using weighted flies on a floating line, how do you cast to avoid hitting rod with fly.
