@@LetThemTalkTV Thanks Sir .May I ask you something? The other day I came across a comment which goes like this. .'your grammar needs mercy '.Could you shed light on it please?
Diachronically speaking, the "unreal past" is of course just the old subjunctive mood. Fairly easy, for once, for German native speakers: in "I wish I had", had means hätte, not hatte. It almost comes naturally.
Hi, i really love your videos, they're extreamly helpfull, So thank you. I struggle with "whose", " whom" and "wich" so i would appreciate it if you would do a video about them. Thank you again.
we hear phrases such as "something is of use/help/importance/value etc) how do you explain "to be + of + noun" and is it such that only certain nouns such as the ones I mentioned (value, assistance, use etc.) can be used this way or it works for any other noun
Ah! Look what the cat dragged in! I just couldn't be so delighted to have you here Gideon! If I had a tail I would've wagged it! 🐕 I thank you kindly for this clarified lesson. You couldn't have made it any better. I shall salute you by taking my hat to you sir. You bloody deserve it. Next time I fly to Paris, i will ensure to drag you out for an afternoon Matcha latte by Eiffel Tower. I will pick up a place whereas you pick up the bill 😉 Greeting from Casablanca.
"I wish I would have more time" sounds perfectly right to me when the wish is an extremely deep one. Whereas "I wish I had more time" is less emotional though grammatically correct and more rational than the first sentence. Am I right? "I wish I was" is indirect/reported speech whereas "I wish I were" is subjunctive ...true?
Hello @LetThemTalkTV, which one sounds better? Please help me. 1) Does he maybe eats rasam instead? 2) Does he eats rasam? 3) He eats rasam? 4) Maybe he does eat rasam instead? 5) Maybe he eats rasam instead?
Even though the content is really useful, I find it extremely difficult to apply while talking. For native speakers like you, things would come intuitively. But being a non-native speaker, it takes too much effort to apply these rules in daily conversations making you almost paralytic. Even while watching the video, I can't form the right sentences. I can't imagine what a task it would be to think about these grammar rules before forming a sentence in my head while talking. Of course, I have the liberty of time while writing but while talking, it's a different ball game for us. Thanks for the content anyways.
I massively relate to this. What I've been trying to do is to subconsciously think in English, when talking in the language, as opposed to thinking in my native language, then translate it to English. It's a hard task, indeed! But I'm challenged when I do things that are hard!
This is one of the most useful videos of Gideon I have watched. So I bookmarked it. I think even for an advanced learner of English with all those subtle nuances this can get pretty intricate and is full of traps. As an aside, I am curious how you produce and cut your videos staging a talk between a bearded and a shaven Gideon? I think this requires a director's foresight and planning of scenes.
“I hope I will/can see her tonight,” but “I (had) hoped I would/could see her tonight,” as it implicitly didn’t come to pass, but yet “I (had) hoped I would/could see her tonight… and I did!”
I hope to get my shirt, I wish to have soon, Important tips today, I really enjoyed it, the grammar is the turn, it is essential ... Nice video, you always do a good job with your characters ..👏👏
Hi Gideon, thank you for this lesson. I am always in trouble with "wish" expressions. So thank you again. By the way, you made me laugh with, "I wish, I didn't see your stupid face..."LOL. Poor cousin.
I don't even know why I'm here. I'm don't even know the basic English. Whatsoever it was a great lesson. And I hope that someday I back here and could understand more. By now is enough can get the meaning of the words and the way of the conversation without subtitles. Thanks!
Thank you so much Gideon for enjoyable sketch. An effective grammar lesson indeed! I wish you and your fellowmate could taste my special " minestrone" recipe.Have a great evening! 🍵🥄😍
Superb! Thank you so much. I hope that you make a video about past participle that are used twice in the sentence. Noun+past participle, twice+past perfect. i.e. when it had started snowing, I had had already left. (not sure if this is correct.)
The way you used one character with the beard and the other without is absolutely brilliant! I suppose you recorded all the scenes with the beard, then shaved, then recorded the scenes without beard.
