7 years old content.... And still a source of inspiration...
Pete Edwards has work has inspired so many... but for me, he is still the OG. Thanks Casper Pete!
I'm a senior studying electrical engineering and what you do blows my mind.
I've been super inspired by these videos, thank you so much for making them.
I've been waiting for this video for months, thanks!
Hello there, Mr Casper Electronics! Thanks to your videos and your gracious and GENEROUS teachings here, I've been inspired to make purchase for all the chips, breadboards, etc. to follow along, and it's so much fun to listen to all the wacky cool sounds a relatively small number of components can produce! And blinking led's are always a great touch!
So begs my question, sir: might you be considering a part 4 in your DIY SYNTHS series? Regardless if you are or not, I (again, I think) want to say THANK YOU! To teach as you do puts you on a higher and certainly special level.
What would you like to see in part4?
@@bubagoo VCFs would be amazing. Your videos made me buy the omsynth complete kit.
@@bubagoo something about effekts would be great! like delay or filters! or granular synthesis! greets!
@@bubagoo I was trying to find where all of the archived information got moved to. Have you kept the site alive? If not, where can I find all of the information on bending things like Nintendo's that you have done in the past. This information is what I have been searching out for everywhere and I finally found it... And it's gone... Please drop me a link if it has moved. Thank you again for everything that you do and have a great day! Ideally I am trying to bend the audio of a ds with cart plugged in however there is no information anywhere. I figured if anyone could do it, that person would be you!
@@MechMod YES!!!! PART 4
This is fantastic news! Your step by steps and Bender projects are brilliant, and I've been aching for an OMSynth minilab since watching one of your workshop videos in 2014
You can buy it here along with kits for all the videos noise.kitchen/product-category/bastl/omsynth/ ;)
Hey man!
I just spent the afternoon watching your 3 toturial videos, and i just wanted to say thanks! They're really easy to understand, even with a limited knowledge of electronics :) I am so gonna go buy myself some basic components now and get started! Cheers!
PS: Please make more videos, i'd love to see you get more in depth with more advanced effects! :)
one of the best video-teaching and inspiring iv'e seen!!! thanks
keep on!!!
Thank you so much for all the time you take to do these very inspiring tutorials Cheers!!!
You're welcome! :) thanks to you
These videos are exactly what I was looking for to put what I know about electronics to music. You’re much more talented than me but at least I half way understand what you’re saying lol. Luckily the internet is full of information. 😊
Ijust love your videos...great work
Great videos. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to more!
this series is awesome!!!! :)
Hey all. The OMSynth is now for sale with kits for all of the videos! Woohoo! noise.kitchen/143-omsynth
This is really useful and nice, I would love part 4, anyway, hvala lepa
Hello
casperelectronics synthesizers, cold you do a reverb circuit tutorial, that would be super cool.
Hello! Thanks for another great tutorial!
Is there any (non-expensive) chips that samples with normal specs (and lower - optionally) like 16 bit, 48k?
Hey man, just bought the isd1820 to try out all the stuff, will you make a part 4?
I would love to learn more, is because of your videos that i started building up this crazy noise things :D hope to see some vids in the future
Could you explain making a keybord from scratch, that you can use to play your synth in the next one?
pure inspiration. thank you very much, friendly ghost teacher.
such a great combination of ICs!
is there a way you set up the ISD1820 to reduce the pop that occurs at sample playback?
nice, thanks for makin these vids
Awesome, thanks.
Yes thank you these are incredible! Do you know of an IC chip that you can record more than one sound at a time on?
OmBotCult i dont off the top of my head but I’m pretty sure there is one in the ISD alone of chips that does that. Orrrr you can just use two chips :D
Hi there, great video and very informative! many thanks! i noticed on an earlier schematic that i had saved from your website, the REC LED is tied through a resistor to ground, and when checking the newer one, is is set high instead. i attempted to build this into a eurorack module, but i think i may have fried my chip as it got pretty hot and fed a regular oscillator into it (+/-5v) before checking the datasheet says absolute maximum VAC on the input pins is way less. luckily i ordered 3 just incase :) Do you know where i might find some further information about adding some protection to this circuit for use with eurorack? any help would be really appreciated. thanks again!
Jeremy Durant voltage divide your incoming signals and add 5v Zener diodes. These will cut off any signal above 5v and below 0v
You're awesooomeeee
awesome :)
Your red oscilloscope-type device seems very useful. What is it? where did you buy it or did you make it yourself?
Hey you can get them off EBay etc, either in a kit form or constucted. Just search DSO oscilloscope kit. There not super precise and have trouble with noise (no shielding etc) but are actually an awesome little unit for the outlay.
coooool
more tutorials please~!!!
Hi!! Great videos!! I had a great time building the oscillators and the sequencer!(and also learn a lot!!)
But now I can't not build this lofi sampler....
Does anyone have the data sheet for the isd1820PY?? I'm trying to find info so I can build the lofisampler than its explained in this video... Unfortunately I have no good luck. Hope someone can help me!
Try this: bastl-instruments.com/support/tutorials/omsynth-project-3 and this: www.tuxgraphics.org/npa/outdoor-doorbell/ISD1800_datasheet.pdf
this is a lofi junkies dream
great video!
in 13:10 it sounds like a ringing phone :D
Did I miss the part where you built the filter? I've been playing around with little 555 and cmos osc drone makers, but I want a filter (lowpass for sure, but being able to wire it up to do hipass and bandpass depending on where I tap the outputs would be awesome). Unfortunately, all the filter designs I've found require dual pole powersupplys (usually 12v+/- or 9v+/-). Got any advice?
Eventually I want to start building my own modular 1v/oct compatible synth, though that will likely be pre-fab PCBs to start.
I explain the filter on the website. Link in the description. This is only a low pass. And don't expect it to sound good! The main strengths of this filter are that it is super simple and runs on 5volts. Functionally it is noisy and sort of unstable. BUT It is a pretty aggressive filter. Which gives it a sort of fun musical character.
Andy, you can build a great 9v low pass filter. Here's a link, scroll down to find the post "9V powered Korg MS-20 filter". It words wonderfully. You may have to do small tweaks to get it just the way you like it. www.scoop.it/t/diy-music-electronics/?tag=pedal
Andy, also, if you are looking to build +9v stuff, you should be diving into the world of DIY guitar pedal circuits. Most will work fine at +12v, too, which I recommend as they seem to be more stable. I highly recommend tackling Casper's Echo Bender to add a great 4th dimension to your sound!
I've been playing around with building several guitar pedal circuits off and on for a while now. I even built a full beavis-board for easy prototyping.
I'm just more of a synth nerd and there is a BIG gap/step between tons of little battery powered synthy noise makers like in this video (and a ton of 555 or cmos40160 based designs) and stuff that works in modular/euro world (1v/oct osc tracking across at least a few octaves). looks like I really need a oscilloscope and quite a bit more electronic engineering knowledge.
I have been playing with this for 4 hours and for some reason, I am getting so much more noise into my sampler than this demo leads to believe is normal. I have checked everything and can't understand why?
Hello, I also have this sampler, unfortunately at the beginning of each recording there is always a “crackling/clicking” I didn't hear that in your recordings. Did you consciously do something against the cracking? Is your module connected to battery or power supply? Thanks in advance Regards
The pop is not from the silence, but because the samples aren't ending on 0v.
could you provide more info on that?
@@ridass.7137 Sure. An audio waveform centers on 0v. If you cut the audio when above or below 0v, the wave form will sharply return to 0v, which sounds like a pop. The proper way to clip an audio clip is to zoom in and select the point it crosses 0v. If you do this, you will never get a pop.
Any update on the OhmSynth? (I've also checked the website too)
yes! buy it here along with kits for all the videos noise.kitchen/product-category/bastl/omsynth/
Can i have pitch control with the made module of this chip? Or is necessary to build it in protoboard? I see the "Rosc" pin is not in the module. Please someone help! thanks to everyone!!
Óh facu I don’t know what you mean by “the module”. What “module” are you talking about?
Is the omsynth available anymore?
Does an L78LO5 make all of this 5V or just the sampler chip? Also, is it possible to connect the output of a circuitbent toy to the input of the sampler chip?
The whole circuit runs on 5volts. Yes you can connect the output of a bent toy to the audio in ;)
Thanks mang! This series was invaluable to me!
right on! glad its been useful.
hi, thanks for your great videos, I've learned A LOT!! I have a question: isn't the ISD1820. SO voice recorder kit pretty much the same as the sampler you build in this video? I mean, not the divider or the oscillators but just the sampler part
Yes it uses the same chip
What I mean is that, to make your sampler, you use pretty much the same components that comes with the chip in the voice recorder kit, don't you?
Are you planning to continue this series further?
I'd like to... but dont think i'll have the time or energy for a while.
I hope you make more, but understand time and energy! I have learnt so much from this series and thank you!
is there a way to do this with a raspberrypi?
I purchased a bunch of Omsynth breadboard items from your Noise Kitchen website. As a suggestion I would recommend you include a simple diagram or instructions. I figured everything out except for the Keypad( Except because no markings on the buttons or knobs etc. I have to retest every time I use them and re remember). When you plug the wires in it forms a connection before you press any button. So I guess it is not set up as a button.Tried using as a resistor and as a typical button. Did not seem to work as in a resistor replacement. Watched all your videos over and over but usually to much going on from a distance to know what is actually connected to the keypad.Tried sending a couple emails to customer service at Noise Kitchen. No response. Becoming very frustrated!!
where comes the drum beats at 19:16 ? A drum machine outside of this video?
Jialin Zou yup. The box on the left is a homemade drum machine
Why arent you uploding anymore ??
Are you still making things?
I also just realized this was his last vid.. hope he is still into in
all 3
Would anyone have the schematics for these 3 video casperelectronics.com is down :( Cheers
here you go, if you haven't found it already. :P

how long does it take to get these in the mail to California ?!
Jimmyounce Salamndr hey!congrats on getting an OMSynth ;) it has most likely shipped and should take 1-2 weeks to get there. BUT awe are moving our entire operation across town right now. So it’s possible that it will be delayed.
Thank you so much! This is going to change things for me so much! I was wondering if a ico was possible on this lab? sorry for being so green. ICO( currant controlled osc. )
I wish I could help you physically move, and hang out with y'all!
hey
That’s what I need. A breadboard with all the fixins, an op amp, some turn knobs, keep it finger-twisting, Cap n Gates like da captain
Finger-LickeN, but for sound. Not Chicken.
Not Gates, not them haters twitching, shit got Twisted, like MSM and Twister 🌪
Lyrics littering Liberals learning Little Minds
But keep it simple. Smiles on they faces, like the gravy that they dribbled, Bringing biscuits, your da sauce, to soak up all the Crumbs.
God Bless.
Ps I’m serious. I do need get me one of those.
¡Uf!
Pin 14 must be connected to ground...this is never made clear.. the schematic and breadboard pic very from what you do in video..plus no close ups makes this very confusing
Annnd this product is DELETED
