Thankyou for your videos gave me the confidence to start fixing my beloved accordeon! and thankyou for answering my questions of which I have another; I've been tuning the reeds and all is going smooth so far but I've noticed a few reeds have a little speck of rust and I want to know if there is something I can do to make sure the rust doesn't spread and to prevent any from starting on all the currently rust-free reeds. I was thinking about maybe giving them a light coating of oil but not sure what kind of oil to use, I was thinking boiled linseed oil? thanks again!
Hello I am currently working on reeds with traces of rust . I very lightly sand off the surface rust with a 240 grit sandpaper - dont forget to check the underside of the reeds too! Don't put any oil or anything on the reeds - it will affect the sound and if any migrates to the valves it could cause the valves to get gummed up. The reason why the rust appeared is that the accordion was left for some time in a damp environment - such as a loft or cellar or garage etc Once you have cleaned the reeds - the rust shouldn't come back as long as the accordion is kept away from a damp environment Hope this helps 😁
Rich, great videos, thanks ! How long do you leave clamped before you attempt to play it again ? Thanks ! Barry
Thank you for the good explanation.
I'm learning a lot from it again.
Greetings and keep up the great work 👍
My pleasure!
